BCL Football: Wari beat Dhaka 2-0; Pragati overpower Youngmen's 2-1
Wari Club registered a 2-0 victory over Dhaka City FC in the 12-team Bangladesh Championship League (BCL) Football 2020-21 at the Kamalapur Stadium Thursday.
Ali put Wari Club ahead in the 36th minute while Arafat scored the second goal for the winners in the 43rd minute.
In the day's other match, Kawran Bazar Pragati Sangha overpowered Fakirerpool Youngmen's Club 2-1 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the afternoon.

Kankar Biswas scored first for Fakirerpool in the ninth minute while Saddam levelled the margin for Pragati Sangha in the 54th minute.
Saddam again came forward to score the match-winning goal for Pragati in the stoppage time (90+4 minute).
BCL Football: NoFel beat Uttara 2-0
NoFel Sporting Club made a good start to the second phase of the 12-team Bangladesh Championship League (BCL) Football after beating Uttara Football Club 2-0 at the Kamalapur Stadium Monday.
Mahmudul put NoFel ahead in the 43rd minute (1-0) while Fuad confirmed victory for them, scoring one more goal in the 47th minute (2-0).
Fortis Football Club will play Farashganj SC Tuesday at the time and same venue.
BCL leader among 2 held for attack on govt official in Kurigram
A local leader of Bangladesh Chatra League (BCL) and another member of the student wing have been arrested in connection with an attack on a government official in Kurigram’s Char Rajibpur upazila. Police picked up Jewel Rana, BCL general secretary of Char Rajibpur Sadar, and Abdur Rahman Biswas from their houses in the upazila late on Thursday night on charges of assaulting project implementation officer (PIO) Souvrata Das.
Souvrata was distributing Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) money on Char Rajibpur Union Parishad premises on Wednesday morning when Upazila Chairman Akbar Hossain Hiro and Upazila Awami League President Abdul Hai went there, along with party activists.

As Souvrata did not stand up while talking to Abdul, Jewel Rana and his supporters suddenly started beating him. Later he was rescued by his colleagues and the local police and rushed to Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
Souvrata said, "I was attacked because I couldn't give proper attention to the Upazila Chairman while distributing money to the local people." Later he registered a complaint with police.
Char Rajibpur Police Station officer-in-charge Nabiul Hasan confirmed the arrest of the two BCL leaders and said a case was registered last night in connection with the attack on the government official.

Jewel Rana and Abdur Rahman Biswas were produced in a court that sent them to judicial custody, he added.
Rajshahi University BCL locks up VC
The Vice Chancellor (VC) of Rajshahi University (RU) Prof. M Abdus Sobhan on Sunday was locked up in his residential building by the leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) RU wing.
A meeting of the Finance Committee was scheduled at 10:30 am in the VC's residential building.
It is learned that the protesters locked the main gate of the building at 8:30 am to postpone the meeting disrupting the members of the committee.
RU Proctor Prof. Lutfar Rahman said, "There was a meeting of the finance committee today, but no one from the committee could enter the building for the protesters."
Faruk Hasan, vice-president of the RU BCL said, “The education ministry had sent a letter last December alleging various irregularities against the VC. This clarifies his involvement with corruption.”
He further said that they feared VC M Abdus Sobhan would commit major irregularities in Sunday's meeting and that's why they had taken a stand to postpone the meeting.
Hefajat hartal: 25 hurt, 4 detained in Habiganj, Sylhet
At least 25 people including seven policemen were injured Sunday in clashes between hartal supporters and the law enforcers in Habiganj and Sylhet during the nationwide hartal enforced by Hefajat-e-Islam.
Hefajat called the general strike protesting the killing of its activists and the "attack on them by ruling party men" Friday during anti-Modi demonstrations in Dhaka, Chattogram and other districts.
In Habiganj's Ajmiriganj upazila, picketers locked into an argument with policemen as they were conducting patrols. At one stage, hundreds of villagers and Hefajat supporters started attacking law enforcers with domestic weapons and brick chips, the locals said.

Seven policemen including Ajmiriganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nurul Islam were injured in the clash. The hartal supporters also vandalised a pick-up van and torched two motorcycles of police.
To take control of the situation, police fired 33 rounds of rubber bullets and hurdled brick chips towards the protesters.
OC Nurul Islam said, "Calm prevails now. However, additional law enforcers have been deployed at the spot. Of the seven injured policemen, sub-inspectors Polwel and Mujibur were admitted to the local hospital."

Meanwhile, four teenagers were detained from Sylhet city during a clash between Hefajat activists and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men.
Five including two BCL men were "injured in the clash," Sylhet Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Ajbahar Ali Sheikh said.
27 including 2 journalists injured as BCL attacks anti-Modi protesters
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men on Thursday attacked anti-Modi protesters at the Dhaka University (DU) campus following a torch procession by a group under the banner of Progressive Student Alliance against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Dhaka visit.
The incident took place in front of the university's vice-chancellor's house at around 7:45pm. At least 25 protesters and two journalists were injured during the attack.
Prothom Alo's DU correspondent Asif Hawlader came under attack as he went to the university's VC Chattar to gather news.
"I went there to collect news. Suddenly, 10-15 BCL men attacked me. I lost consciousness as they hit me on the head," Asif said. "They also snatched my bag, Tk3,000 and press card."

Earlier at 5:30pm, another journalist, Abid Hasan Rasel of Bangla Tribune, came under attack at TSC while performing his professional duties.
"People of Bangladesh," a citizens' platform, arranged a programme named "Jeyafat" at that time protesting Modi's upcoming visit.
As the protesters were about the start their programme, some BCL leaders and activists beat them up, and snatched their banners, the witnesses said.
Abid was at the spot to cover the programme. The BCL men swooped down on Abid as he started recording the video of the BCL attack on protesters.

The journalist is now undergoing treatment at Dhaka University Medical Centre.
The Socialists Students' Front DU chapter President Salman Siddique said at least 25 protesters were injured by BCL men.
"We were standing in front of the vice-chancellor's house. Suddenly, BCL activists attacked us with bamboo sticks, stamps and bricks," Salman said.
BCL President Al Nahian Khan Joy could not be reached for comments till the filing of this report.
However, BCL General Secretary Lekhak Bhattacharjee said, "The incident is unexpected. We are yet to identify the attackers and will take proper action after finding them."

Earlier, the procession started with 300 protesters from TSC at 6:30pm and ended in front of Ruqayyah Hall.
During the procession, the protesters chanted: "Go back Modi, go back to India," "Butcher of Gujarat, go back to Gujarat," "My name's Felani, Modi's not welcome."
The protesters also demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the BCL activists who carried out an attack on their demonstration on Tuesday, when at least 20 anti-Modi protesters from different left-leaning student bodies and five photojournalists were injured as BCL men carried out an attack on a demonstration against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bangladesh visit on March 26.

The victim was identified as Abid Hasan Russel, the Dhaka University correspondent of Bangla Tribune.
"People of Bangladesh," a citizens' platform, arranged a programme named "Jeyafat" at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) at around 5.30pm.

Anti-Modi protest: Chhatra Odhikar Parishad burns Indian PM's effigy
Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad Wednesday burned Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's effigy at Dhaka University campus protesting his upcoming visit to join the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh's Independence.
The student body brought out a black flag procession from the Central Shaheed Minar at around 4:30pm and paraded different roads of the campus. The procession ended at the TSC area.
Speaking at the rally, leaders and activists of the organisation labelled Modi as a "communal terrorist" and said a "terrorist" cannot join Bangladesh's Golden Jubilee celebration.
They also protested Tuesday's attack that Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men carried out on anti-Modi protesters at the campus and demanded immediate arrest of the attackers.

Chhatra Odhikar Parishad DU unit General Secretary Akram Hossain led the protest programme.
Bin Yeamin Molla, former Chhatra Odhikar Parishad Dhaka University unit president, said: "India helped us during our Liberation War of 1971. We are grateful to them but we cannot welcome a 'terrorist' like Modi in our great Golden Jubilee celebration."
"We cannot welcome a communal individual like him and will resist him by any means."
Calling on the BCL to stop violence, Yeamin said, "If you do not put an end to using force, students will not accept you anymore."

Akhter Hossain, DU unit president of the organisation and also former Dhaka University Central Students' Union leader said, "The people of Bangladeshi do not want Modi here. But the ruling party Awami League is desperate to have him in our Golden Jubilee celebration to cling on to state power."
"India is not behaving like a friendly country to us. Bangladesh citizens are being killed every day on the border. India has power and influence over us everywhere."
On Tuesday, at least 20 anti-Modi protesters from different left-leaning student bodies and five photojournalists got injured as some BCL men swooped down on a rally that was protesting Modi's visit to Bangladesh ahead of March 26.

At least 25 Anti-Modi protesters from different left-leaning student bodies and two photojournalists were injured as some Chhatra League men carried out an attack on a demonstration protesting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's bilateral visit to Bangladesh ahead of Independence Day on March 26.
The attack left at least 25 leaders and activists of progressive student wings including Pragati Barman Tana, Meghmallar Bose, Asmaney Asha, Sumaiya Setu as well as two photojournalists including Jibon Ahmed of Daily Manab Zamin and Rubel Rasid of Daily Desh Rupantor.

The injured students were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for proper treatment.
BCL man killed in Chattogram infighting
An activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was killed in an infighting between its two factions at Arefin Nagar in Chattogram city on Sunday night.
