Covid-19: Women Affairs Department Director Fakhrul Kabir dies
Md Fakhrul Kabir, Director of Department of Women Affairs, died from coronavirus early Tuesday.
“He passed away at around 1:40am at a city hospital in the capital,” said a press release from the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.
Joint Secretary, (Admin Cadre of BCS 13th Batch), Fakhrul was diagnosed with coronavirus in the first week of June and was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital after his condition deteriorated and shifted to Square Hospitals on Monday.
Covid-19: Jashore-4 MP Ranajit Kumar Roy infected
Ranajit Kumar Roy, the member of Parliament of Jashore-4 constituency, was diagnosed with coronavirus on Monday night.
Confirming the information around 12:30am, Jashore Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Abu Shahin said the sample was collected on Monday morning and tested at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST).
Rajib Roy, son of Ranajit Kumar, told UNB that his father was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Jashore at around 1:30am.
MP Ranajit Kumar, also the president of Bagharpara Upazila unit of Awami League, was living at his residence in Rail Road area in Jashore town.
He had been suffering from fever for the last few days, and health workers collected samples of eight people of the MP’s family on Monday, said the Civil Surgeon.
Earlier on June 2, AL leader Mohammad Nasim tested positive for coronavirus.
Health authorities have so far confirmed 68,504 coronavirus cases and 930 deaths.
Covid-19: CMP Commissioner Mahbubur Rahman infected
Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Mahbubur Rahman was diagnosed with coronavirus on early Tuesday.
The CMP Commissioner himself confirmed the matter over phone at around 1am, saying that he tested positive but he had few symptoms of infection.
“I’m doing well even although I’m already infected,” he said. Rahman and his took coronavirus test as they were suffering from fever for the last few days.
He said his wife tested negative.
“After returning home, I’ve gone into isolation,” he said early Tuesday.
Chattogram Civil Surgeon Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said he was yet to get information about the CMP Commissioner’s infection.
While performing duties, policemen and members of other law enforcement agencies have been getting infected in Bangladesh.
Until Monday morning, 6,612 policemen were infected with coronavirus across the country while performing duties.
“Among the total infected policemen, 2,823 have made full recovery until Monday morning,” said AKM Kamrul Ahsan, public relations officer of the police headquarters.
Meanwhile, 18 policemen and a civilian member of the law enforcement agency died of COVID-19 till Monday, he added.
Coronavirus situation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh confirmed its first cases on March 8 and the first death on March 18 but it has been seeing a sharp rise in both new cases and deaths in recent weeks.
The health authorities on Monday reported 68,504 coronavirus cases and 930 deaths in the country.
Among the total confirmed cases, 14,560 people have so far recovered.
Altogether 2,735 new coronavirus cases were recorded in the last 24 hours after testing 12,944 samples at 52 laboratories across the country as of Monday morning.
To curb the spread of the virus, Bangladesh announced a general holiday from March 26 to May 30 but public transports, government and private offices were opened on a limited scale from May 31.
Educational institutions will remain closed until June 15 while offices will remain open on limited scale for maintenance purpose.
Coronavirus: Global death toll crosses 400,000
The global death toll from coronavirus reached 406,413 on Tuesday morning while the number of confirmed cases were 7,097,717, according to the Centre for System Science and Engineering of the Johns Hopkins University.
According to JHU data, Brazil has come up to the second position after US with 707,412 confirmed coronavirus cases as of Tuesday. The South American country counted 37,134 deaths from the virus till the date.
Barishal’s Dr Rahat Anwar dies in Dhaka
Founder of Rahat Anwar Hospital in Barishal, Dr Rahat Anwar, died at a hospital in Dhaka early Tuesday.
The 55-year-old had symptoms similar to that of other coronavirus patients.
“Dr Rahat breathed his last at around 2:45am at a hospital in Badda,” said his brother Delwar Hossain.

Tamim stands beside 50 coaches in Chattogram
Newly appointed Bangladesh ODI captain and a bright son of the port city of Chattogram Tamim Iqbal continued his support to the people affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
In his latest initiative, Tamim stood beside 50 needy cricket coaches of his home town on Sunday.
Former national opening batsman Nafees Iqbal, who is also the elder brother of Tamim Iqbal, along with the officials of Chittagong Cricket Coaches Association (CCCA) handed over financial assistance to 50 local coaches Sunday evening.
CCCA president Saifullah Chowdury was also present on the occasion.
'I myself and Tamim learned cricket from these coaches when we used to go to field with our late father Iqbal Khan. I think it is duty of all the students to stand beside their teachers if required," Nafees said.
Tamim wanted to keep it (aid) within us but the coaches wanted to make this public thinking others might get inspired and come to their help," Nafees added.
Tamim, who was recently appointed as the national goodwill ambassador of World Food Programme (WFP), has made it a regular practice to help those struggling due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Left handed opener Tamim Iqbal earlier also extended his helping hands to the sportspersons around the country who are struggling during the lockdown imposed by the government to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
Tamim provided financial support to 91 athletes from many disciplines including cycling, swimming, gymnast, football, cricket, kabaddi, wushu, and hockey. He also helped some coaches.
Tamim listed these athletes with the help his teammates and friends.
Tamim also coordinated the effort of the country's 27 top cricketers to donate their 15-day salary to the Prime Minister’s fund to help the poor during this pandemic. He also coordinated with Crickets Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) to raise funds for Corona virus victims.
All the sporting events are postponed in Bangladesh including cricket since last March and several thousands of sportsperson are now stuck at home.

Covid-19: Office returnees throng on roads amid growing number of infection
Despite the persistent increase of coronavirus cases in country especially in the capital, the home bound people crowded the city roads after office hour on Sunday avoiding the risk of transmission.
