Dengue cases likely to come down within a month: LGRD Minister
The number of dengue cases is expected to decline within a month, said Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Md Tajul Islam on Monday.
“Many people had left Dhaka for a long time due to restrictions for Covid-19 and Eid vacation and during this period Aedes mosquitoes breed in stagnant water in the houses and under-construction buildings, leading to dengue outbreak . But the situation will improve within one month,” he said.
The minister was speaking at ‘BSRF Dialogue’ organised by the Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum (BSRF) at the secretariat.

Replying to a question, Tajul said, “This year, dengue cases marked a sharp rise comparing to the previous two years and the main reason behind it is Covid restrictions and Eid holidays,”
There was no planed initiative in controlling mosquitoes in 2019 and the country witnessed 1405 dengue cases as some steps were taken in 2020, said the minister adding “We witnessed rise in deaths and cases in 2021. The main reason behind the outbreak is climate change.”
Citing the dengue outbreak in different countries like Vietnam, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Singapore and Philippines, the minister said Bangladesh’s dengue situation is better than those countries.
“Many children died of dengue and many people lost their relatives this year. We don’t want to lose anyone and we’ll take steps from this years’ experience.”
Referring to the foreign tour of Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor during dengue outbreak, Tajul, said the DSCC mayor went abroad due to family problem and he had informed me about it.
Talking about the Detailed Area Plan (DAP), the LGRD minister said it is expected to be finalized in December.

“There is no scope to build Dhaka like other beautiful cities in the world as many high-rise buildings have already been built in an unplanned way and it is the abode of about 2 crore people. We can’t ask people to leave Dhaka forcibly. That’s why we are expanding civic amenities to the urban areas,” said the Minister.
Speaking about the development and the renovation works during monsoon, Tajul said “We are thinking about it and the process to take action against those involved in irregularities is underway.”

Dengue: 319 more hospitalized in 24 hrs, no fresh death
Although no death from dengue was reported in 24 hours till Sunday morning, 319 more people were hospitalised with the mosquito-borne disease, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Among the new patients, 244 were admitted to different hospitals in Dhaka while the remaining 75 cases were reported from outside the division, according to DGHS.

Some 1,260 patients diagnosed with dengue fever are receiving treatment in the country as of Sunday morning.
Of them, 1,079 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the remaining 181 were listed outside Dhaka.
This year’s total death toll from dengue stood unchanged at 54 for the last three days.
Among the deceased, 50 died in Dhaka city alone, two in Chattogram division, one in Khulna and one in Rajshahi.
Some 13,875 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue since January.
So far, 12,561 dengue patients have left hospitals after recovery, said the DGHS.
The number of dengue patients hospitalized in a single day was the highest with 343 patients on September 7.

In the month of August the country recorded the highest number of 7,698 dengue cases of the current year.
In July, 2,286 people were diagnosed with dengue and 12 died while in June 272 cases were recorded with no deaths.
Health authorities have been recording over 200 dengue cases per day since August 1.
No room to defy Covid norms at schools, colleges: Dipu Moni
Action will be taken against those who will defy health protocols in their educational institutions, said Education Minister Dipu Moni.
“If any violation of Covid norms is seen at educational institutions, action will be taken against those responsible for that, no matter whether he/she is a teacher or an official from the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE),” she said.
The education minister came up with the warning while talking to reporters after visiting Azimpur Government Girls’ School and College in the city on Sunday.

“The Covid infection rate has dropped to 7 percent, and when we had a meeting on August 26, we witnessed a downtrend. After considering it, we took the decision to reopen the educational institutions. The students have been suffering a lot socially and mentally due to the prolonged closure of the educational institutions,” she said.
DSCC conducts drive against Aedes mosquito as dengue cases rise
In a bid to contain the dengue outbreak Dhaka South City Corporation on Tuesday filed six cases and collected a fine of Tk 1.05 lakh from owners of buildings where Aedes mosquito larvae was found.
As many as four mobile courts conducted the drive in Kalabagan, Demra, and Dhakeshwari area of South Dhaka.
During the drive the mobile courts inspected153 buildings and found Aedes larvae in six of them.
Executive Magistrate Tanjira Kabir Tropa, who led the drive at Kalabagan said, "Today we conducted a raid in the Crescent Road area of Kalabagan. During the raid, stagnant water was seen in several places on the ground floor of a house behind the Green Life Hospital.”

“We have fined its owner Tk 70,000,” she said.

Of them, 1,133 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the remaining 148 were listed outside Dhaka.
This year’s total death toll from dengue remained static at 52.
Dengue: 1 more dies, 315 more hospitalised
Dengue claimed one more life in the past 24 hours raising the death toll to 52, said a report of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday.
Among the dead 48 were in Dhaka city alone, two in Chattogram division, one in Khulna and one in Rajshahi.

Besides, a total of 315 new patients were admitted to different hospitals during the period, it said.

Dengue cases cross 10,000 mark in eight months
The number of Dengue cases in Bangladesh crossed 10,000-mark this year with the hospitalization of 233 new patients in the last 24 hours until Monday morning, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).wls in Dhaka while the remaining 20 cases were reported from outside the division.
Some 1,150 patients diagnosed with dengue fever are receiving treatment in the country as of Monday morning, DGHS said.
Of them, 1,004 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the remaining 146 were listed outside Dhaka.

According to DGHS, 10,090 patients have been diagnosed with dengue this year and 42 among them died.
Of the deceased, 38 were from Dhaka city, two from Chattogram division and one each from Khulna and Rajshahi divisions.

6 Dhaka hospitals declared as Dengue- dedicated
Amid the worrying rise in Dengue patients in hospitals, Directorate General of the Health Services (DGHS) on Monday announced six hospitals of Dhaka as Dengue- dedicated ones.
A notification signed by Director of Management Information System (MIS) of the directorate professor Dr Mizanur Rahman was issued in this regard.

According to the notification the six dedicated hospitals are- Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital, Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital at Tongi in Gazipur; Railway General Hospital at Kamalapur, Dhaka, 20-bed Aminbazar Govt Hospital in Dhaka, Lalkuthi Hospital at Mirpur in Dhaka, and 31-bed Kamrangirchar Hospital in Dhaka.
The country is now battling the dengue outbreak amid the Covid pandemic as some 1,218 patients diagnosed with dengue were reported receiving treatment at different hospitals as of Sunday morning, said DGHS.

This year, Dengue fever has claimed 36 lives so far. Of them, 32 have died in Dhaka city, two in Chattogram division, one each in Khulna and Rajshahi.
Most of the cases have been reported in the capital so far, said the health authorities.
Health authorities have been recording over 200 dengue cases per day since August 1.

Some 8,041 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue since January, and 6,787 of them have been released after they recovered.
“We all witnessed how hard the dengue situation hit us in 2019. We are on the brink of a similar situation this year,” said DGHS spokesperson Md. Nazmul Islam on Wednesday.

Dengue: 221 more hospitalised, no fatalities reported
Although Bangladesh saw no deaths from dengue in the past 24 hours till early Friday, 221 more people were hospitalised with the mosquito-borne fever.
Among the new patients, 212 were admitted to government and private hospitals in Dhaka alone.
According to the Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS), 7,472 patients have been diagnosed with dengue this year, including at least 31 deaths.

July and August accounted for all the deaths; and of the deceased, 27 were from Dhaka division, two from Chattogram, one each from Khulna and Rajshahi.
The new infection tally indicates the fast-rising trend of the Aedes-borne disease in Dhaka. The country has been seeing over 200 dengue cases a day for the last 19 days since August 1.
Around 1,190 patients diagnosed with dengue fever are now receiving treatment and almost all the dengue cases have been found in the capital so far. Of them, 1,094 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in Dhaka.

So far, 6, 251 dengue patients have been released from hospitals, according to the DGHS.
A sharp spike in dengue cases deals a double blow to Bangladesh as the country's healthcare system has already been battered by a worsening Covid crisis, driven by the highly contagious Delta variant.
On Friday, 145 Covid-19 related deaths were reported across the country in the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 25,023.
During the same period, 5,993 new cases were reported, taking the total caseload to 14,53,203.

The death toll from Dengue has reached 26 with the death of one more patient, said a report of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Tuesday.
A total of 329 new patients were admitted to different hospitals in 24 hours till Tuesday morning, it said.
Among the new patients, 306 were admitted to government and private hospitals in Dhaka while the remaining 23 cases were reported from outside the division, according to DGHS.
