Rupganj fire: Sajeeb Group chairman, sons among 8 put on remand
A Narayanganj court on Saturday placed the eight people, including the chairman of Sajeeb Group, his four sons and the group CEO, on a four-day remand each following their arrest in connection with the Rupganj factory fire case.
Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Fahmida Khanam passed the order in the afternoon after a hearing as police produced the arrestees before the court seeking a 10-day remand for them, inspector Asaduzzaman told the UNB correspondent from the court.
Earlier in the day, Narayanganj police arrested Md Abul Hashem, chairman of the group, his four sons -- Hashem Bin Hashem, Tareq Ibrahim, Tawsib Ibrahim and Tanjim Ibrahim-- and its CEO Shahan Sha Azad, DGM Mamunur Rashid and head of admin Salauddin in the connection with the tragic fire in the factory owned by the group that claimed the lives of 52 people so far.
Earlier, police filed a case with Rupganj police station against the eight people and many unknown others following the massive fire in the factory, said Superintendent of Police in the district Md Zaidul Alam.

Group CEO Shahan Sha Azad was arrested from the company’s head office in the capital’s Farmgate area, while Chairman Hashem from his Gulshan residence, SP Alam said.
OC, Inspector suspended for ‘sexual assault’ during remand in Barishal
The officer- in Charge and an inspector of Ujirpur Police Station in Barisal were suspended on Monday over sexually assaulting a woman during remand.
The OC was identified as Ziaul Ahsan and the inspector as Mainul Islam.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Bangladesh Police(Barishal range) SM Akhtaruzzaman confirmed the development to UNB.
“We withdrew them after receiving a complaint of custodial harassment. A departmental case will also be filed against them,” he said.
The woman was arrested in connection to a murder case on June 28.

Police produced her before a court that placed her on a two-day remand on June 30.
She was again produced before the court on Friday following her remand. That is when she brought allegations of sexual harassment and torture during her remand.
Nasir, Omi placed on 7-day remand in narcotics case
A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed Nasir U Mahmud and Tuhin Siddiqui Omi on a seven-day remand each in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.
Three women, also accused in the case, have been remanded for three days.

The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khair Jessi passed the order after Udoy Kumar Mondal, an inspector of the Detective Branch of police and the case investigation officer, produced them before the court.
Earlier in the day, the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Kamrun Naher fixed July 8 for police to submit their probe report in the case filed by actress Pori Moni accusing Nasir,Omi and four others of trying to rape and kill her.

DB police are investigating the case was filed at Savar police station on Monday.
'Hash Brownies’: 3 students caught with edible cannabis products placed on 2-day remand
A Dhaka court on Thursday remanded three private university students who were arrested over seizure of ‘Hash Brownies’, an edible cannabis product that from the outside looks no different from any other chocolate cake or pastry product.
Court of Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Shahinur Rahman passed the order during a hearing after Investigation officer of the case Sub-Inspector Julhas Uddin prayed for 7-day remand after producing the accused before court.
The remanded students are Kafil Owara Rafid from American International University of Bangladesh, Kazi Risalat Hossain from Advanced Professionals in Dhanmondi and Saiful Islam Saif from University of Development Alternative.
From the defendant’s side advocate Samia Ara Mina and Abu Sayem appealed for bail and cancellation of remand while the states side opposed.
After hearing both sides the court passed the order.
On Wednesday night, a team of DB police arrested the students from the city's Mohammadpur and Paltan area and a case was filed in this connection with the Mohammadpur police station.
According to DB, they were tipped off about a cake laced with Marijuana being peddled by syndicates in the city. Police arrested Rafid and Saif from Shahjahan road in Mohammadpur during a raid.
Eighteen pieces of Hash Brownies were seized from them, said police.
Later, following their information police arrested Risalat with twelve pieces of cake from an apartment in the city's Paltan area.
With cannabis incorporated in the ingredients, these edibles are a potent way of getting 'high' without smoking.
LSD seizure: 5 more placed on 5-day remand
A Dhaka court on Monday placed five people on a 5-day remand each in a Narcotics case filed after their arrest with hallucinogenic drug LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide).
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Atiqul Islam passed the order after rejecting bail plea of the accused.
Those remanded are ABM Shirajul Salekin alias Topu, ASM Monwar Akib alias Anan, Najmus Sakib, Md Saiful Islam and Najmul Islam.

Earlier, sub-inspector (also investigation officer of the case)of Khilgaon police station Badrul-Al-Amin produced the accused before court and prayed for a 10-day remand for each.
Primary investigation reveals that the accused were involved in drug trading, said police.
On Saturday night police arrested ASM Monwar Akib alias Anan, Najmus Sakib, Md Saiful Islam from Khilgaon while peddling drug. ABM Shirajul Salekin was arrested later from the Mohakhali area.

On May 26, police arrested three private university students with LSD during a raid.
Later a case was filed at Dhanmondi Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act.
On Sunday, a Dhaka court placed the three accused Sadman Sakib Rupol, 25, Ashab Wadud Turjo, 22, and Adib Ashraf, 23 on a 5-day remand each.
The ongoing probe into the death of Dhaka University student Hafizur led to the raid, said DB.
‘Shishu Bokta’ Rafiqul put on 7-day remand
A Dhaka court on Thursday placed Rafiqul Islam Madani, popularly known as Shishu Bokta, on a 7-day remand in a case filed under the Digital Security Act for delivering ‘anti-state and provocative’ speeches.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Abu Sufian Md Noman passed the order in a virtual hearing after the investigation officer of the case sought a 10-day remand to interrogate Shishu Bokata.

Rafiqul Islam was placed on 4-day remand in another case filed with Matijheet Police Station earlier on April 21.
A Gazipur court sent him to jail on April 8 when he was produced before the court in the case.
Madadi was arrested on March 25 from Motijheel area during a demonstration protesting the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of Independence and later he was freed.

‘Golden Monir’ put on 18-day remand
Separate courts in Dhaka on Sunday placed ‘Golden Monir’ on an 18-day remand in three cases filed over the recovery of foreign currencies, firearms and liquor from his Badda residence.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Abu Bakar put him on a 7-day remand in each two cases filed under the Arms Act and the Special Powers Act.
ASP Anisul's death: Registrar of NIMH remanded
A court on Tuesday placed the registrar of National Institute of Mental Health & Hospital (NIMH) on a two-day remand over the death of Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Anisul Karim in a hospital in the city.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Shahidul Islam passed the order after investigation officer Faruk Molla of Adabor Police Station sought a 10-day remand for interrogation.
Earlier, Dr Abdullah Al Mamun, registrar of NIMH, was arrested from the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.
Besides, two accused- pharmacist Md Tanvir Hasan and ward boy Md Tanim Mollah gave confessional statements at the court.
Four other accused also confessed to their guilt.
So far, 13 people have been arrested in connection with ASP Anisul’s death.

A Dhaka court on Sunday placed suspended councilor Irfan Selim, also son of Awami League leader Haji Selim and his bodyguard Zahidul Mollah on a two-day fresh in a case filed over assaulting a navy official.
