Khulna’s landless police constable candidate to get permanent address
Another landless candidate for the police constable post is going to get a piece of land and with a built house as a gift from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Like Barishal’s police constable candidate Aspiya, Meem Akhter of Khulna faced difficulties to be recruited for the jobdespite attaining the first position at the district recruitment test, simply because she didn’t have a permanent address in the district.
Khulna Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Moniruzzaman Talukder said after the issue of Meem’s family being landless came up for discussion, a decision was taken to provide her family land and a house as a gift from the PM.

He said as her family lives in a tenement house in the city, she will soon be given a land with a house in the city or adjoining areas for which efforts are being made.
Meanwhile, Khulna additional superintendent of police (south) Tanvir Ahmed said Meem's case had been reported to police headquarters. No decision has been made yet. “We will let her know if the police headquarter makes a decision,” he said.
Meem said that she applied for the post of police constable under the women’s quota. She passed the written and medical tests achieving the first position. The police verification started after Nov 11 and she waited for the final call.
“On Dec 11, I went to the Khulna Police Super’s office where additional superintendent of police Tanvir Ahmed said that all my papers were okay but he was not able to give the job as I do not have a permanent address in Khulna. Then I came back home crying,” she said.
Meem's father Rabiul Islam, who has a blanket shop, said that they have been living in a rented house in Khulna’s Sonadanga residential area for over 32 years, but didn’t have a permanent address.
On Sunday evening he got a call from the DC office to submit some papers on Monday. He submitted the papers accordingly as their accommodation for a permanent residence is being arranged, he said.

Viral on social media: Aspiya seeks PM's intervention for her job in police
Aspiya Islam Kajal, whose recruitment as a police constable is stuck up by a regulation, has sought the intervention of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Though Aspiya successfully went through all tests needed for a trainee constable, she can’t join as her family landless and has no permanent address. A permanent address of the candidate is needed to get a job in police department as per the regulation.
Kajal's mother Jharna Begum said, "I have raised my daughter with a lot of effort, but she is not getting the job as we are landless here.”
“Now we are seeking help from the Prime Minister as citizens of the country,” the mother said.
“Give my daughter the job anyway,” she cried.
Barishal Range DIG SM Akhtaruzzaman also hoped that she might soon get the job if higher authority intervenes.
However, Range DIG SM Akhtaruzzaman did not give any official statement on the issue of Aspiya’s requirement as he was not in-charge of the recruitment. He said the recruits for the post of trainee recruit constables are under the police superintendent of the district.
The DIG later gave a status on his Facebook profile on Thursday (Dec 9) afternoon when the issue of Aspiya came into discussion through social and mass media.
In that post, SM Akhtaruzzaman mentioned a report regarding Aspiya’s problem of not getting a job in the police due to lack of land. He said the issue has gone viral on social media and the tide is on Aspiya’s side but those who are aware of the provisions of government service are not able to take her side.
Thanking the people who brought the issue of Aspiya on social media, he said that he would be very happy if the girl gets the job.

Aspiya said, “ I have passed every exam on my own merits. But only because we don’t own a land can’t I have the job. It has been said in the recruitment circular that qualified persons will be appointed. I have passed all the exams based on merit. Then why not give me the job?
She said the prime minister is working to establish a developed Bangladesh. “I don't think it is right that the deserving people will not get job only because of not owning a piece of land. I am seeking PM's intervention in the process,” she said.
According to her national identity card (NID) Aspiya Islam Kajal, is a resident of Matabbar Bari of Khunna Gobindpur village in Boro Jalia union of Hijla upazila of Barishal district. According to the locals, Aspiya’s father came from Charfason of Bhola district 25-30 years ago and started living in Hijla upazila. He had a business.
Jhantu Bepari, a Union Parishad member of Ward-3 of Boro Jalia union, said, "I have known Aspiya since her childhood. Her father was an honest man. But 5-6 years ago, he died of a stroke. After that the family became helpless.”
He said, "Aspiya’s father Shafiqul talked to me and decided to buy land in this area to build a house. We even liked the land. But all of a sudden, he died."
Jhantu Bepari further said that considering the humanitarian aspect, Aspiya should be given the job. After all, she is a citizen of this country.

Israeli police questioned on Palestinian attacker's shooting
Israel's Justice Ministry said Sunday that two police officers were brought in for questioning following the shooting death of a Palestinian who had stabbed an Israeli man in east Jerusalem.
Israeli police released surveillance video in which the attacker can be seen Saturday stabbing the ultra-Orthodox Jewish man and then trying to stab a Border Police officer before being shot and falling to the ground. Police identified the attacker as a 25-year-old from Salfit, in the occupied West Bank. Police could later be seen carrying the body away on a stretcher.
A widely circulated video shot by a bystander appeared to show an officer from Israel’s paramilitary Border Police shooting the attacker when he was already lying on the ground, and another appeared to show police with guns drawn preventing medics from reaching him, prompting calls for an investigation into possible excessive use of force.
The shooting drew comparisons to a 2016 incident in which an Israeli soldier was caught on camera shooting a wounded Palestinian attacker who was lying on the ground.
The Justice Ministry’s police investigations unit said the police officers were questioned shortly after the incident and released without conditions.
Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett released a statement in support of the officers. Other leaders also defended their actions.
“It's not clear if the terrorist maybe has an explosive belt. All sorts of things could happen,” Public Security Minister Omer Barlev, who oversees the police, told Israeli Army Radio Sunday. “They acted correctly.”
The incident happened near Damascus Gate just outside Jerusalem’s Old City, a tense and crowded area that is often the scene of demonstrations and clashes.
The Old City is in east Jerusalem, which Israel captured in the 1967 war along with the West Bank and Gaza. Israel annexed east Jerusalem in a move not recognized internationally and considers the entire city its capital. The Palestinians want east Jerusalem to be the capital of their future state, to include the West Bank and Gaza.
There have been dozens of attacks in recent years in and around the Old City, nearly all carried out by individual Palestinians with no known links to armed groups.
Palestinians and Israeli rights groups say security forces sometimes use excessive force in response to attacks, killing suspected assailants who could have been arrested or who posed no immediate threat to security forces.
Rights groups also say Israel rarely holds members of its security forces accountable for the deadly shootings of Palestinians. Investigations often end with no charges or lenient sentences, and in many cases witnesses are not summoned for questioning.
Israel says its security forces make every effort to avoid harming civilians and that it investigates alleged abuses.
In the widely publicized 2016 case, Israeli soldier Elor Azaria was caught on camera shooting a wounded Palestinian attacker who was lying on the ground. Azaria later served two-thirds of a 14-month sentence after being convicted of reckless manslaughter.
His case sharply divided Israelis. The military pushed for his prosecution, saying he violated its code of ethics, while many Israelis, particularly on the nationalist right, defended his actions.
In a more recent case, a Border Police officer was charged with reckless manslaughter in the deadly shooting of an autistic Palestinian man in Jerusalem’s Old City last year.
The indictment came just over a year after the shooting of Eyad Hallaq, whose family has criticized Israel’s investigation into the killing and called for much tougher charges. The shooting has drawn comparisons to the police killing of George Floyd in the United States.

Identify reasons why police failed to control violence: GM Quader
Stating that an unusual situation is prevailing in the country, Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader on Sunday said the reasons behind the failure of law enforcement agencies in controlling recent communal incidents must be unearthed.
“A conspiracy is there to destroy the communal harmony of the country in a planned way. It’s necessary to investigate how the Quran was kept at the puja mandapa amid the vigilance of law enforcers,” he said.
GM Quader, also the deputy opposition leader in parliament, came up with the remarks while speaking at a divisional representatives’ meeting of Jatiya Party’s Khunla unit at the party chairman’s Banani office.
He said the Hindu community members will never desecrate the Quran to foil their puja festival while no Muslim can conspire to disgrace the Qur'an if s/he has the slightest faith in the religion.

“Again, a vested quarter has made evil attempts to incite the violence spreading the news of demeaning the Holy Quran all over the country,” the Jatiya Party chief said.
He said a speech of State Minister for Information Dr Md Murad Hassan not to accept Islam as the state religion of Bangladesh went viral at the same time. “The government will have to find out whether it (Murad’s speech) has any connection with this conspiracy.”
GM Quader alleged that the state minister made derogatory remarks against Jatiya Party founder HM Ershad and the Army like an imprudent person.

He said it is necessary to take action against the state minister after the investigation. “It must be investigated as to why the state minister made provocative remarks in unusual circumstances.”
GM Quader said any conspiracy aimed at creating communal chaos in the country is an unforgivable crime.
Silence of police helped violence escalate: BNP
BNP on Sunday alleged that the recent sectarian violence in different parts of the country happened due to the indifference of law enforcers as they played a silent role during the attacks on temples and puja mandaps.
Speaking at a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also demanded an impartial investigation into the incidents of attack and vandalism at puja mandaps and temples across the country to put the real culprits under trial.
“Law enforcement agencies have played the role of silent spectators all along. These incidents have happened with government patronage,” he said.
The BNP leader also said their party thinks the incident at Nanua Dighipar in Cumilla would not have led to such brutal inhumanity had police acted swiftly.
He said the same thing happened in Noakhali's Chaumuhani during attacks on temples as the administration did not take any action though they were requested repeatedly to do so. "There has been anarchy, looting and vandalism for six hours, but they (police) were silent.”
The BNP leader urged people to remain alert for maintaining the long lasting communal harmony in the country and foiling any plot to incite communal violence further.
“Awami League is carrying out these incidents by sacrificing and destroying all the achievements of the country. The government is trying to take the BNP's struggle for democracy to a different direction by using its agents,” he observed.
Read: EC going to be formed as per govt wish: BNP
Fakhrul said the motive behind such communal incidents is also to mislead people and divert their attention to a different direction from the growing price hike of essentials and other problems in the country.
“The government has indulged in a plot to gain political advantage by provoking sectarian violence, clashes and attacks, and pushing two religious communities towards confrontation instead of ensuring the security at the puja mandaps and temples following the allegation of the desecration of the Holy Quran,” he said.
Standing on the debris of democracy, Fakhrul said the government wants to get the good attention of the international community by playing the role of savior in the violent and turbulent situation after spreading the elements of communal conflict.
“But in the current age, nothing can be hushed up. It’s now clear to people that the anarchy that has been created across the country since the incident at Cumilla Puja Mandap is being implemented in accordance with the government blueprint,” he said.
The BNP leader said it is now a burning question who took the Holy Quran to the puja mandap. “I firmly believe no religious community in the country, except wicked persons associated with power, can do this nasty thing.”
He said the conspiratorial ugly task of desecration of the Holy Quran at Cumilla puja mandap was carried out with the backing of the government.
“The biggest probe of it is that though the Hindu community members asked the local administration to send law enforcers to temples and puja mandaps soon after the incident of (Quran desecration), they sent police much later,” he said.

The BNP leader said ministers and Awami League leaders have been trying to implicate BNP in the Cumilla incident since day one.
He also said cooked-up stories are being spread on social media to shift the blame for the incidents onto BNP leaders.
“About one lakh people had been hired to spread rumors in the name of BNP leaders on social media. The conversation that went viral in the name of BNP leader Amanullah Aman is untrue, fake, politically motivated and super edited one,” Fakhrul said.
BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said the communal incidents are being happened as part of a 'game' of the government.
He said the incident in Cumilla puja mandap was an outcome of a low-quality plan of the government.
Gayeshwar urged people of all religious communities and alem-uleam not to fall into the trap of the government by carrying out violence.
BNP vice-chairmen Barkatullah Bulu, Netai Roy Chowdhury and Dhaka north city unit convener Amanullah Aman, among others spoke at the press conference.
