Dhaka University ‘Cha’ unit admission test results on Sunday
The results of Dhaka University’s ‘Cha’ unit admission test under the Fine Arts Faculty for the 2020-21 academic session will be published on Sunday.
Vice-Chancellor of the university Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman will announce the results at 12.00 pm at Professor Abdul Matin Chowdhury virtual classroom, said a DU press release on Saturday.

Admission test results can be checked through official admission website admission.eis.du.ac.bd. It can also be checked by sending mobile SMS as per the instruction mentioned in the admit card.
The admission test of ‘Cha unit’ was held on October 9 where a total of 15,496 admission seekers vied against 135 available seats.

2 DU students endure night of torture at Surjo Sen hall
Two residential students of Dhaka University’s (DU) Surja Sen Hall hall have allegedly been tortured by two Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists for not attending guestroom and political programmes.
They were tortured from 2.30 am to 4.30 am early Monday, in room no. 351 of the dorm.
The torture victims are Ariful Islam, third-year student of Anthropology Department and Tariqul Islam, third-year student at the Department of Theater and Performance Studies. They are roommates staying in room no. 327.
The victims in this regard submitted written complaints to the university proctor.
DU Proctor Prof AKM Golam Rabbani told UNB, “The victims have lodged written complaints. The incident took place at Surja Sen Hall. That is why I have asked the hall administration to take action.”
The accused are Sifat Ullah Sifat, fourth-year student of the Department of Women and Gender Studies, and Mahmudur Rahman Orpon, fourth-year student of the Department of English for Speakers of Other Languages under the Institute of Modern Language (IML).

Both the accused are residential students and followers of BCL hall committee candidate Imran Sagar.
According to the victims, they were called to participate in guestroom and political programmes at the hall a few days ago, but they failed to take part due to departmental examinations. Following this incident, Sifat and other accused later threatened to remove them from the hall.
On Monday, Sifat forcibly took them to room no. 351 of the dorm and together with Mahmudur tortured them. The victims were allegedly beaten with an iron rod.
The torture continued till 4.30 am and they were threatened to leave the dorm as well, claimed Tariqul and Ariful.

Attempts were made to contact Sifat and Palash over the allegations but they did not respond.
Neither did Hall Provost Dr Maqbool Hossain, respond to phone calls.
DU ‘Kha’ unit admission test results published, pass rate 16.89%
The results of Dhaka University ‘Kha’ unit admission test for 2020-21 academic session were published Tuesday with a pass rate 16.89 per cent.
Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman unveiled the results at Professor Abdul Matin Chowdhury virtual classroom at noon.

7,012 students passed the exam among 41,524 participants against 2,378 available seats.
DU Pro-VC (Administration) Mohammad Samad, Treasurer Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, dean of DU arts faculty and convener of the admission committee Prof Dr Abu Md Delwar Hossain, online admission committee convener Prof Dr Md Mostafizur Rahman were, among others, present.
The admission test results are available on university website admission.eis.du.ac.bd. It can also be checked by sending SMS 'DU Kha ' to 16321.
Successful candidates will have to choose subject through the admission website between November 8 and 15.

For reexamining the exam script, candidates have to contact the Dean of Arts Faculty between November 8 and 15.
The admission test of ‘Kha’ unit was held on October 2.
DU to collaborate with AFC Biotech to develop Covid-19 vaccine
The Centre for Advanced Research in Sciences (CARS) of Dhaka University (DU) will collaborate with AFC-Agro-Biotech Ltd in research, development and production of Covid-19 vaccine (DUBD-vac).
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the institutions was signed on Monday in presence of DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Akhtaruzzaman, a press release said.

DU Treasurer Professor Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed and AFC-Agro-Biotech's Executive Chairman Major General (Retired) Md Sarwar Hossain inked the MoU.
"The nation will be benefited by this inclusive research," hoped Dr Akhtaruzzaman.
According to the deal, CARS and AFC-Agro-Biotech will jointly work for innovation of various vaccines including development and production of Covid-19 vaccine (DUBD-vac).
Besides, these two institutions will jointly conduct advanced level research on biological sciences including genetic engineering and biotechnology as well as producing various medicines.
JND biotech and Emergent biotech, two renowned biotech companies in USA will provide support and cooperation in this regard.

Earlier in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak in the country, another local pharmaceutical company - Globe Biotech Ltd - secured the approval of the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) to produce Covid-19 vaccine candidate "Bangavax".
It started the trial of its vaccine on the 56 monkeys they had collected from Safari Park in Gazipur.
DU holds ‘D’ unit admission test
Dhaka University (DU) on Saturday held the admission test of the 'D' unit under the social science faculty for the 2020-21 academic session.
The test was held in eight divisional cities across the country. The test began at 11am for a duration of 30 minutes.
DU Vice Chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman, pro-VC (administration) Prof Dr Samad, and pro-VC (administration) Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal visited a number of exam centers.
This year, 74 students are fighting for a single seat.
From October 1, DU started conducting its admission tests through a unit of the Science Group.
This year, a total off 1 lakh 15 thousand 881 students applied for the DU unit admission tests. Some 1,570 seats are up for grabs.
The exam centres outside Dhaka are: Chittagong University, Rajshahi University, Khulna University, Bangladesh Agricultural University in Mymensingh, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology in Sylhet, Barishal University, and Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur.

The culturally active students of DU have come together to organise the concert protesting the recent communal violence in the country.

The concert will kick off at 3:00 pm.
Bands like Shironamhim, Shohojia, Meghdol, Bangla Five, Shohortoli,,Gaanpoka, Gaankobi, Krishnopokkho, Kaal, Oblique, Orjon, Gonje Fereshta and Bunoful will be rocking the stage during this time.
Alongside music, mime and dance performances will also take part in the concert.
Fire at Dhaka University’s Sufia Kamal Hall
A fire broke out Tuesday 9:10pm on the 8th floor of Dhaka University' Sufia Kamal Hall south building.
With the efforts of two firefighting units the flames were completely doused around 9:32 pm, confirmed Shahjahan Sikder, deputy assistant director (Media cell) of the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters.

Dhaka University authorities resumed physical classes on Sunday, after nearly 18 months of Covid-forced closure.
Offline classes resumed at different departments and institutes from 8am today.
Prof Abu Md Delwar Hossain, Dean of the Arts Faculty, said classes and exams began at 8am and those will continue until 5pm today.

Students are allowed to attend classes provided they show the proof of receiving at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine.
Antika Tabassum, a third-year student of Islamic Studies department, said, "We are excited for being back to classrooms and seeing each other after a long time."
DU to resume physical classes from Sunday
Dhaka University will resume physical classes from Sunday, after nearly 18 months of Covid-forced closure.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the university's Academic Council on October 7, UNB has learnt.
On October 5, the university reopened its residential halls to its fourth-year honours
and master's students who got at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.

Second- and first-year students were allowed into the halls from October 10, maintaining all Covid-safety protocols.
Earlier, on September 28, the Provost Standing Committee and the Academic Council made the decision to reopen dorms at a syndicate meeting chaired by the vice-chancellor.
The dorms had remained shut since March 20 last year following the outbreak of Covid-19 in Bangladesh, which prompted the government to shut down all education institutions across the country.
