DB questioning: The eccentric businessman and the fake addl secretary
Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan police (DMP) on Tuesday evening interrogated the chairman and chief executive officer of DATCO Group Musa bin Shamser for his alleged involvement with the arrested fake additional secretary Abdul Quader Chowdhury.
Musa along with his family went to the DB office in the afternoon and he was interrogated for more than three hours.
Briefing reporters afterwards, its Joint Commissioner (DB-North)Harun-ur- Rashid said that businessman Musa Bin Shamsher cannot avoid responsibility for the offences of fraudster Abdul Quader.
He allegedly appointed Quader as his legal adviser and also gave him a cheque of Tk 20 crore. Evidence of Abdul Quader's frequent contact with him has been found, he said.

Almost 14,000 people arrested in DMP’s special anti-narcotics drive in 8 months
Police arrested 13, 942 people and filed 9,821 cases in the capital city during an eight-month special drive against illegal narcotics until August 30, a senior official said on Sunday.
Teams from city’s police stations were joined by detectives from Dhaka Metropolitan Police conducted the drive, said Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) of the DMP Iftekhairul Islam quoting from statistics.
The crackdown saw the recovery of different types of drugs, including 5,898 kgs hemp, 61.66kg heroin, 31,67,723 pieces contraband yaba pills, 44,426 cans bear, 40,554 bottles of phensidyle,13746 ample injections,3746 bottles foreign wine, 6,718 litres of local wine, opium 10 kg, snake venom four pounds and other contraband drugs and items during the period from January 1 this year, Iftekhairul said.

He said the highest number of 2192 people were nabbed in January, while lowest 1333 people were arrested in April.
The highest number of cases, 1532, was recorded in January, while the lowest came in April with 947 cases were filed at different police stations.

‘Mission Extreme’ is set to release worldwide on December 3rd
After being delayed by two years due to the deadly Covid-19 pandemic, the first episode of the much-anticipated police action thriller movie 'Mission Extreme' is set to have its worldwide release on December 3.
This was confirmed by Sunny Sanwar, writer-producer and one-half of the directors of the film, also a superintendent at Anti Terrorism Unit of Bangladesh Police.
Joyed over the upcoming release of the big-budget cop-thriller, starring Dhallywood superstar Arifin Shuvoo and inspired by some of the breathtaking operations of the Counter-Terrorism Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Sanwar said that the decision has been made considering the improving situation of Covid-19 in the country.

“The initial victory against the pandemic has been achieved in the country by opening educational institutions, and we are getting back to our normalcies with the rapid vaccination. Altogether, we felt that this is the time to welcome our movie-loving audiences to the theatres with new big-budget movies. Thus, we are releasing our film on December 3rd and we hope everyone will be by our side,” Sanwar told media on Thursday.
He also informed that the trailer will be releasing soon, as well as a massive publicity campaign to promote the film ahead of its big release.
The story and screenplay were written by Sunny Sanwar himself. The film is produced by Cop Creation, in association with Mime Multimedia and Dhaka Detective Club.

The film initially was scheduled to release in 2020 on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr but was postponed due to the Covid-19 situation in the country. It was rescheduled for a 2021 Eid release, but again pandemic prevented it.
Co-directed by Faisal Ahmed, the movie features an ensemble cast of Arifin Shuvoo, the debutant ‘Miss World Bangladesh 2018’ Jannatul Ferdous Oishee, Taskeen Rahman, Sadia Nabila, Sumit Sengupta, Raisul Islam Asad, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Shatabdi Wadud, Majnun Mizan, Iresh Jaker, Manoj Pramanik, Aref Syed, Sudip Biswas Deep, Rashed Mamun Apu, Ehsanul Rahman, Dipu, Syed Nazmus Sakib and others.
For this particular project, actor Arifin Shuvoo has done rigorous body transformation after nine months of hard work. Sharing his excitement, the National Award-winning superstar said, "The hard work I've put in to get myself fit for ‘Mission Extreme’ is never to be forgotten. I have had to suffer major injuries while training for the body transformation, which includes painful leg injuries from which I am still suffering. The movie is finally going to be released and I will forget all of my pain if we can satisfy our audiences who have been waiting for the film for such a long time."

Shuvoo earned his National Award in 2018 for his character in the superhit film ‘Dhaka Attack’, written by Sunny Sanwar. The film also won the "Best Film" award in the 42nd Bangladesh National Film Awards.
‘Mission Extreme’ is a two-part film, and the second part will be released after a couple of months of the first part, according to the makers.
Lockdown Day 3: Banks reopen, 587 arrested, Tk 12.7 lakh fined
The third day of the ongoing strict lockdown saw increased number of people and vehicles on the streets of capital city on Sunday as police made more arrests and collected bigger sum of fines.
The increased movement may partly be due to the reopening of banks and return of Eid holidaymakers to the city, police said.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 587 people and traffic police collected Tk 12,72,000 as fines from 521 vehicles for violating lockdown rules on Sunday.
Meanwhile, 233 people across the city were fined Tk 1,00,950 by mobile courts for not following the restrictions and health guidelines.

RAB and Army personnel patrolling the streets of the city alongside local police, were seen monitoring the movement of vehicles and people setting up strategic check-posts in different areas.
Though check-posts were set up from Gabtoli-Mirpur Road-New Market to Uattara-Airport-Mohakhali, to prevent unwanted movement, people on the streets showed different excuses when caught by law enforcers, Traffic officer Asaduzzaman of Mohakhai said.
“Many people were still returning to the city after the Eid holidays.”
Though some were seen carrying luggage on foot, a good number of people were halted at the entry points of the city including Abdullahpur, Uttara, Tongi, Amin Bazar bridge and Babu Bazar bridge, he said.

However, as per the government instructions, only ambulances and those in emergency services were allowed to enter the capital.
On Thursday, State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain told UNB that this lockdown would be stricter than the one imposed last time. "Police, the paramilitary Bangladesh Border Guard and the Army will keep a strict vigil on the roads."
The second round of strict lockdown started on 8 am of July 23 that would continue till Aug. 5 unless further extended.
Suspected militant hideout cordoned off in Narayanganj
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP's) Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit on Sunday night cordoned off a suspected militant den in Narayanganj's Araihazar.
Police suspect that Neo JMB men have stored bombs and bomb-making materials in the house – located in Araihazar's Noagaon Miabari.

CTTC found out about the house after arresting the imam of a Noagaon mosque, Abdullah Al Mamun, in the evening for his alleged involvement in militancy.
"During primary interrogation, Mamun admitted that he is an active member of Neo JMB," CTTC Bomb Disposal Unit's Additional Deputy Commissioner AKM Rahmatullah said.

"The house was used as a den of militants to make bombs. The bomb, found near a police box in Narayanganj's Siddhirganj on May 17, was made in this house, CTTC Additional Deputy Commissioner Ahmedul Islam said.
Police said they would enter the house after assessing the situation.
Lockdown: Police arrest 621 for violations on Dhaka streets
Police arrested 621 people for being on the streets in capital Dhaka in violation of a strictly-enforced lockdown on its third day Saturday.
The arrestees were picked up while roaming in different parts of the city, said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Iftekhairul Islam.
He also said that Tk 19,22,350 was collected in penalties from vehicles across the capital under the Road Transport Act.

However, the officer did not provide any information on the total number of vehicles sued.
Besides, mobile courts slapped fines on 346 people collecting an amount of Tk 106450.
Despite a vigilant position by the law enforcers, the number of both people and vehicles taking to the streets increased a bit on the third day of lockdown.

Traffic Inspector Akter Hossain (Rajlaxmi Uttara), said “The number of vehicles is higher than the last two days but we are also active and allowing only those who have valid reasons to come out.”
The government imposed a seven-day lockdown from July 1 to contain a surge of Covid-19 infections across the country. It will continue until July 7 midnight.
Lockdown: 320 held for violating lockdown rules on Day 2
Police arrested 320 people from capital Dhaka for violating lockdown restrictions on Friday.
The arrestees were sued under the DMP Ordinance with different police stations of the capital from Friday morning till 5pm, confirmed Additional Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Iftekhairul Islam.
Also, mobile courts fined 208 people on the second day of "stringent lockdown."
Moreover, 68 vehicles were sued and fined Tk 1,19,900 during this time.

According to the latest information on traffic, a total of 219 cases have been filed and fines of Tk. 5,45,500 for violating lockdown restriction on Friday.
Meanwhile, Army personnel were also seen patrolling the streets of Dhaka, as the government scrambles to bring the Covid-19 situation under control.
Though there were fewer private and commercial vehicles on the main roads as compared to Thursday, rickshaws that provide last-mile connectivity to the residents were seen plying at many places.

Police and Rapid Action Battalion members were seen monitoring the movement of vehicles and people after setting up check-posts in different areas of the capital on the 2nd day of the lockdown.
Earlier, the law enforcers detained 373 people and arrested 550 people from different areas of the capital till 5pm on Thursday, said police sources.
Bangladesh entered a stringent lockdown, with patrol teams in the streets to convince people to stay home from Thursday.
DB nabs gang of motorcycle thieves
Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested eight alleged members of an organized motorcycle thieves' gang by conducting special drives in different places of the capital Dhaka and Comilla district.
The detectives also recovered 17 stolen motorcycles of different brands from their possession during the simultaneous drives.
The arrested gangsters were identified as Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Md Rubel, Md. Sagar Mia alias Bhsani, Md. Babu, Md. Afzal Hossain, Md. Rashedul Islam alias Russel, Md. Faruk Hossain and Md. Helal Hossain.

Sources at the DB said, the DB (Lalbagh Division) had information that some members of a vehicle thieves' gang were gathered at Madhubagh area of Hatirjheel to buy and sell stolen motorcycles. Based on the information, a special DB team carried out a drive on the location at around 5:45 pm on June 8 and arrested Abul Kalam, Rubel, Sagar, Babu, Afzal and Rashedul.
Five stolen motorcycles were recovered from their possessions during the time, said Assistant Commissioner (DB-Lalbagh Division) Madhusudan Das.
Then based on information extracted from the arrestees, the detectives conducted simultaneous drives and arrested Farooq and Helal from Muzaffarganj area of Comilla district. This time they recovered 12 more stolen motorcycles from their possession, he said.

During the preliminary interrogation, the arrested gangsters confessed that they are members of a syndicate trading in stolen motorcycles. They took the stolen motorcycles by driving themselves to Hajiganj and Shahrasti areas of Chandpur district. Later, the arrested Farooq, the leader of the gang, changed the shape of the stolen motorcycles and then sold them on in different areas of Chandpur, Noakhali and Comilla districts.
All eight were shown arrested in a case filed with Hatirjheel police station.
A man held for alleged social media posts on militancy
Authorities said they held a 28-year-old man from the city on multiple allegations, including posting provocative posts on social media and uploading militancy-related pictures.
The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said Shohag Hossain was picked up on Friday (June 5) from Shymoli under Mohammadpur police station.
A mobile phone set was also recovered from his possession.
The man also faces allegations that he tried to spread militancy and misinterpretations of religion.
A case was filed under the Digital Security Act wth Ramna Model Police Station in regard to the allegations.
The DB produced Shohagh before a Dhaka Metropolitan magistrate court on Monday. The Magistrate granted police appeal for a 3-day fresh remand for interrogation.
Sources at the CTTC said, the Cyber Intel team of the City-Intelligence Analysis Division had been conducting online monitoring from March 1 to June 6 this year as part of regular cyber patrolling.
During the monitoring period, the Cyber Intel team detected that one Khalid Ibn Walid (Facebook Profile Link: https://www.facebook.com/shohagrana.rana.524) was trying to disrupt law and order, including spreading militancy, through his facebook ID by uploading various provocative and militant pictures.
Based on the allegation, a team of the CTTC conducted a raid at Shyamoli area in the capital at around 11:00 pm on June 5 and arrested Shohagh, said Sayed Nasirullah, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of City-Intelligence Analysis Division.
The police official claimed that during the preliminary interrogation, the accused had admitted his involvement in the alleged anti-state activity.
DB to investigate case against Rozina
The case filed against Prothom Alo journalist Rozina Islam has been transferred to the Detective Branch of police.
Harunur Rashid, additional deputy commissioner (Ramna zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Wednesday said the case was transferred to the DB.
Rozina Islam was handed over to police on Monday night after being held at the Secretariat for over five hours.

Rozina was arrested for allegedly attempting to illegally “collect sensitive government documents and taking photos of them” from the Secretariat on Monday.
An FIR was filed against Rozina under the Official Secrets Act and sections 379 and 411 of The Penal Code on a complaint filed by the Health Services Division at Shahbagh police station.
Later, a Dhaka court on Tuesday sent Rozina, to jail after rejecting the police's demand for her five-day remand.
Rozina Islam was taken to Kashimpur Central Women's Jail on Tuesday afternoon.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has formed a three-member probe committee to look into the confinement and later handover to police of journalist Rozina Islam at the Secretariat on Monday.
Earlier in the day, Journalists formed a human chain in front of the Jatiya Press Club demanding unconditional release of journalist Rozina Islam and punishment of those involved in harassing her at the Secretariat.

Dhaka Reporters Unity, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalist, Barishal Divisional Journalist Association, Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum, Bangladesh Photo Journalists Association and other organizations joined the human chain around 11 am.
They also demanded withdrawal of false case filed against Rozina.
Besides, Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) held a protest rally in front of its office demanding the same.
