24-year-old student 'ends life' in Khulna
A 24-year-old student of a private university allegedly committed suicide in his rented accommodation in the Sonadanga area of Khulna city on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Promise Nager, a student of the journalism and mass communication department of Northern University and son of Jotirmoy Nager of Pirojpur district.

Getting no response from Promise for a long time, other occupants of the house looked through the window of his room only to find him hanging from the ceiling fan around 6.30pm, said Nahid Hasan Mridha, officer-in-charge of Sonadanga Model Police Station.
Later, they informed the landlord. Promise was rushed to Khulna Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

"A probe is on," the OC said.
Teenage boy ‘kills self’ in Sylhet
A 13-year-old teenage boy allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his house in Beanibazar upazila of Sylhet Sunday night, police said.
The deceased was identified as Ahmed Al Abi, a student of class VII of Khalil Chowdhury Adarsha Vidya Niketan.
Ahmed was found hanging from the ceiling fan with a rope tied around his neck, said Hillol Roy, officer-in-charge (OC) of Beanibazar Police Station.

Family members said Ahmed was alone in the house as they went to visit one of their relatives.
After returning to the house, they found the gate locked and called him repeatedly. As he did not respond, they informed police, they said.
On information, police broke open the door of his room and found him hanging from the ceiling. Police also recovered a Tablet from his bedroom.

Quoting locals, police said that Ahmed used to play the ‘Blue Whale game’. He might have ended his life after taking the challenge of this game, they said.
However, the real cause will be known only after getting the autopsy report, added the OC.
Chandpur: Medical technologist commits suicide
A 26-year-old Medical Technologist (Lab) of Matlab Uttar Upazila Health Complex in Chandpur allegedly committed suicide on Saturday morning, police said.
The deceased was identified as Monira Kamal, wife of Ziarul Islam Nader of Kachari Bazar area of Nilphamari district. Monira, a mother of a son, used to live with her father and aunt at the health complex's staff quarters.

She joined as a Medical Technologist on 14 February 2022.
The deceased’s father Momin Uddin Montu said Monira had been suffering from mental problems for some time.
“On Friday night, she went to sleep. In the morning, after not seeing her, I searched a lot and found the body hanging on the 3rd floor of the quarters and informed police,” Montu added.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to District Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy, said Shahjahan Kamal, officer-in-charge of Matlab Uttar police station.
In debt, Bogura farmer commits suicide
A 32-year-old farmer allegedly committed suicide by taking poison at Sogunia village in Sherpur upazila in Bogura, his family said on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Karim, son of Juran Ali in Bishalpur union of the upazila.

Family members said Karim had borrowed loans from several NGOs and individuals. But due to the loss of paddy and other crops in the current season, he defaulted in repaying the loan. Meanwhile, creditors were pushing for money.
Karim took poison around 11 pm on Wednesday night, said the family.
He was rushed to Upazila Health Complex. Later, he was shifted to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College in Bogura where he died while undergoing treatment there.

The body was handed over to the family after completing the legal procedures, said Rabiul Islam, sub-inspector (SI) of Sherpur Police Station.
An unnatural death case has been lodged at Bogra Sadar Police Station in this regard, added the SI.
Death row inmate ends life at Kashimpur jail
A death row inmate allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with his clothes in the barrack toilet at Kashimpur central jail on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Golam Mostofa, originally from Utrail village of Shibchar upazila in Madaripur district.
As soon as jail authorities noticed Mostofa hanging at the toilet, they rushed him to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival, said senior jail superintendent Md Abdul Jalil.
The body will be handed over to his family after completion of legal procedures, said the jail superintendent.

Mostafa was arrested in a case filed under the Women and Child Abuse Prevention Act by the Demra police.
Later, a court sentenced him to capital punishment and he was transferred to Kashimpur Jail from Dhaka Central Jail on July 11, 2021
Schoolgirl commits suicide in Kurigram
A 14-year-old schoolgirl committed suicide in Nagdaho area of Phulbari upazila of Kurigram district Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Srabonti Roy Khushi, 14, daughter of Santosh Chandro Roy of the area. She was a class VII student of Rabaitari Girls High School.
Police said that her mother scolded Khushi for not giving attention to her studies.
Being agitated, Rina locked the door of her room and hanged herself from the ceiling with a scarf around 6.30am.

Later, with the help of neighbours, Rina's mother broke the door of the house and brought the body down, said Md. Fazlur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Phulbari police station.
An unnatural death case has been filed in this regard, added the officer.
Bogura woman found hanging
Police recovered the body of a woman hanging inside her room with a scarf around her neck in Bogura's Dhunat upazila Thursday.
Shapla Khatun, 19, was from Tarash upazila of Sirajganj.
She got married to Alamgir Hossain of Dhunat two years ago. After that, her husband left for Dhaka for work and stays there now.
Shapla lived at her parents-in-law's house with her four-month-old daughter.
And there had been a domestic disputes at the house for the last one year, the locals said.
On Thursday morning, family members found that Shapla killed herself by hanging and immediately got in touch with the police, Kripa Sindhu Bala, officer-in-charge of Dhunat Police Station, said. "We have registered a case of unnatural death for now."
Although no complaint from the family had been lodged, the body was sent to the morgue of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College for autopsy, she said.

DU student jumps off 16-story building, dies
A 22-year-old BBA second-year student of Dhaka University (DU) killed herself by jumping off the roof of the 16-story building of her home in the capital's Mohammadpur Wednesday, police said.
Zaina Habib, a student of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems, would live in the Japan Garden City of Adabor.
Mujib Ahmed Patwari, assistant commissioner of Mohammadpur Zone Police, said after examining closed-circuit television footage of the roof they found that Zaina had committed suicide.
Zaina went to the top of their apartment building and locked its door around 5pm when it was raining.
At one point, she jumped off the roof, leaving a suicide note, and died on the spot, Mujib said. "Police handed over the body to Zaina's family instead of taking it away for a postmortem as they did not make any complaint about the death."

Woman who ‘set herself on fire’ dies in Dhaka
A 3-month pregnant woman who reportedly tried to commit suicide by setting herself on fire in the city's Gulbagh area died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the early hours of Wednesday.
Meem Akhter, 18, breathed her last at the Burn Unit of the hospital around 5.45am, said Bachchhu Mia, in charge of the DMCH police outpost.

Meem's husband Rummon said that he had an altercation with Meem on Friday night and she tried to commit suicide by setting herself on fire by pouring kerosene on her body Saturday morning.
Later, she was admitted to the Sheikh Hasina Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute with 95 percent burn injuries.
Police detained Rummon from the hospital after her death.
63-year-old commits suicide in C'nawabganj
A 63-year-old man from Gomastapur upazila of C’nawabganj district committed suicide by shooting himself on Tuesday morning, police said.
The victim was identified as Sharif Hossain, son of late Yahia of Deopura village of the upazila.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Gomastapur Police Station Dilip Kumar Das said Sharif used to live with his family on the second floor of his house. He shot himself in the head with his licensed gun in his bedroom around 11.30am on Tuesday.
His family members found Sharif's body in his room and informed the police.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to the district hospital morgue for an autopsy, the OC added.

Family members said that Sharif Hossain was frustrated about his life.
However, police or family members could hardly venture even a guess as to why Sharif would choose this path.
Police are investigating the incident, he added.
