Newly wed woman 'kills herself’ in Khulna
A newly wed woman allegedly ended her life in Paikgachha upazila of Khulna in the early hours of Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Akhi, wife of Shihab Gazi from the Old Gudam Ghar area of the upazila.
Akhi's husband claimed that his wife took the extreme step as he didn't allow her to visit her parents. "An altercation had ensued between us, following which Akhi took her own life," he added.

Her body was found hanging from the ceiling of the house in the early hours.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of Khulna Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy, said Md Ziaur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Paikgachha police station.
A case of unnatural death has been filed in this regard, he added.

KUET student commits suicide at home
Police recovered the hanging body of a student of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) from Dumuria upazila of Khulna on Monday morning.
The deceased was identified as Antu Roy, 21, a third-year student of Textile Engineering Department of KUET.
His body was recovered from his home in Gutudia union in Dumuria upazila.
It is known that Antu was a talented student. His family was going through financial crisis.
He had a lot of money in arrears at Dr. MA Rashid dorm in KUET where he stayed for his studies, but had returned home.
According to his family members, he committed suicide when no one was in the house. His younger sister came home from tuition at around 11 am and found Antu's body hanging in the room.

Dumuria police officer-in-charge (OC) Obaidur Rahman said that in the morning his younger sister found Antur's hanging body. It is initially suspected that he committed suicide due to financial crisis.
His body was recovered and sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, the OC said.
On November 17 last year, another KUET student, Subrata Kumar, a first-year student of Architecture Department committed suicide by throwing himself under a train in Khanjahan Ali area of the district.
Farmers’ suicide ‘for irrigation water’: Human chain demands justice
A human chain was held in Nilphamari town on Saturday protesting the death of two indigenous famers by suicide ‘for not getting irrigation water’ in Rajshahi’s Godagari upazila.
Jatiya Krishak Samiti formed the human chain at Chowrangi intersection of the district town in the afternoon.
District Workers’ Party president Tapan Kumar Roy said two indigenous farmers-Adinath Marandi and Rabi Marandi- recently committed suicide in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi as they didn’t get supply of irrigation water.
Shakhawat Hossain, irrigation pump operator of Barendra Multipurpose Irrigation Project in that area, did not supply them with water and that’s why they killed themselves, he said.
“We want the government takes necessary action to ensure exemplary punishment of those responsible for their death,” he said.

District Workers’ Party General Secretary Abed Ali and Krishak Samiti member Bulu Roy also spoke.
On Mar 24 afternoon, Rabi with his brother Abhinath Marandi, 30, took poison in front of Shakhawat Hossain , operator of a deep tube well operated under Barenda Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA).

They took the decision out of anger as Shakhawat was not giving them a serial number for a long time to get irrigation water supplied to their field in Iswarpur while their seedlings were drying out, alleged the family.
Abhinath Marandi died around 9 pm after reaching home while Rabi died at 8pm on the following day while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH), said Brigadier General Shamim Yazdani, director of RMCH.
30-year-old imam 'ends life' at Manikganj mosque
A 30-year-old imam allegedly ended his life by hanging from the ceiling of his room at a mosque in Manikganj’s Singair upazila on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Md Ferdous Islam, the imam of Nayapara Jame Mosjid and son of Siddiqur Rahman of Barishal’s Muladi upazila. His body was recovered by the police around 10.30pm.
Ferdous left behind a purported suicide note. "No one is responsible for my death," read the note found in his room.

Local union parishad member Rezaul Karim said the imam even led devotees at Esha prayers in the mosque just before he killed himself around 9.30pm. "Locals spotted his body and informed police."
A headphone attached to his mobile phone was found near his body, he said.
Officer-in-charge of Singair police station Shafiqul Islam Mollah said, "It seems to be a case of suicide. But an autopsy can only confirm that. A case of unnatural death has been filed in this regard."
Man shoots himself dead in Naogaon
A resident of Naogaon’s Patnitala committed suicide shooting himself on Wednesday morning.
Yakub Ali, 55, killed himself with his licensed gun at his residence in Cheradanga village under Akbarpur union of the upazila.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Patnitala Police Station Shamsul Alam said Yakub Ali used to live with his family and relatives in Cheradanga village. He shot himself in the head with his gun on the roof of his house.

His wife Morzina Khatun heard the sound of gunfire, and then they found Yakub's body on the roof top. On information, police recovered the body and seized the gun.
However, police or family members could hardly venture even a guess as to why Yakub would choose this path.
A case of unnatural death (UD) was filed at Patnitala police station.
2 farmers’ suicide for irrigation water: Agriculture secy vows strict action
Strict administrative action will be taken if anyone’s negligence is found in supplying irrigation water to two farmers in Rajshahi who allegedly committed suicide for not getting water for their land, Agriculture Secretary Md Sayedul Islam has said.
The secretary said at a meeting on implementation progress review of Annual Development Project(ADP) at the secretariat.

“Police are also investigating the matter separately and they will take action according to the criminal law,” he added.
“We have inquired about the incident immediately after being informed. I had conversation with the Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA), Rajshahi deputy commissioner, Upazila Nirbahi Officer and other concerned and immediately formed four- member probe panel to investigate the matter,” said Md Sayedul Islam.
Already the committee has begun their investigation visiting the spot in Rajshahi and it has been asked to submit a report within a week, he said.

Regarding the onion import the secretary said the government has no plan to suspend onion import right now to keep the price under control during the month of Ramadan, he said.
“We consider both the farmers’ and the consumers’ interest while giving approval for onion import. Farmers are getting good profit now. However, the government is closely monitoring the market,” he added.
Another farmer dies in Rajshahi after suicide bid ‘for irrigation water’
Another indigenous farmer who attempted suicide along with his cousin brother allegedly for not getting irrigation water for their land died on Friday a day after his brother’s death.
The deceased was Rabi Marandi, 32, a Santal community member of Nimghatu village in the upazila.
Earlier on Thursday afternoon, Rabi with his brother Abhinath Marandi, 30, took poison in front of Shakhawat Hossain , driver of a deep tube well operated under Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA).

Meanwhile on Friday night, Abhinath’s wife Rozina Hemrom lodged a complaint against Shakhawat for provoking suicide at Godagari police station, said Kamrul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Godagari police station.

OC Kamrul said Shakhawat has remained absconding since filing of the complaint.
Meanwhile on Thursday, Shakhawat denied the allegation of not giving water supply to Rabi and Abhinath’s field when the UNB correspondent contacted him.
HSTU student’s hanging body recovered
The hanging body of a student of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) in Dinajpur was recovered from a private hostel at Bansherhat adjacent to the university campus early Saturday.
The deceased was Mizanur Rahman Palash, a batch 18 student of Food & Process Engineering Department and son of Abdus Sattar from Gazipur.
His body was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his room in ‘Blue Moon’ hostel.

“I found the room locked from inside after being informed by a student, “ said Rezaul Islam, owner of the dormitory.
The student’s body hanging with a gamcha (towel) wrapped around his neck was recovered around 1 am and was taken to M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital where the doctors announced him dead, said Asaduzzaman, inspector of the kotwali police station. The body was handed over to family after an autopsy, he said.
HSTU Proctor Professor Dr Mamunur Rashid said police was informed immediately after spotting Palash’s hanging body.
Nurse 'ends life' in Dhaka, family alleges murder
A 22-year-old nurse allegedly ended her life at her home in Dhaka's Mirpur area on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Joliet Mondol, wife of Nixon Talukder of Ramshil village in Gopalganj's Kotalipara upazila. Her family members alleged she was killed by her husband and his family members.
Hosne Ara, a sub-inspector at the Mirpur police station, said Joliet hanged herself from the ceiling of her house with a scarf on Wednesday morning.
Her husband's family members first rushed her to Heart Foundation hospital in Mirpur. Later, she was taken to Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival, she added.

Police said the body was initially kept at the morgue of Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital but was later sent to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital morgue for an autopsy in the wake of a complaint from the woman's parents.
According to her father Subal Mandal, Joliet tied the knot with Nixon, an IT professional, two years ago and had since been living with her husband’s family in the Paikpara area of Mirpur's Ahmednagar.
Subal claimed that her daughter was killed by her husband and his family members. "It was not a suicide but a murder," he claimed.
"However, the exact cause of her death will be ascertained only after a probe and the autopsy," SI Hosne said.
Ctg youth ‘commits suicide’ after ‘killing’ lover
A youth has allegedly committed suicide after ‘killing’ his lover at Pahartoli in Raozan upazila in Chattogram, police said.
The deceased were identified as Joy Barua, 26, son of Nilendu Barua of Mohamuni village of the union and Anwesha Chowdhury, 19, daughter of Ranjit Chowdhuri of the same village.
Abdullah Al Harun, officer-in-charge (OC) of Raozan Police Station, said Joy called Anwesha to his uncle's abandoned house in the village around 9 pm on Sunday when he came to know about her marriage with someone else although they had an affair.

Joy first strangled Anwesha and then slit her throat to confirm her death and later committed suicide by hanging himself.
On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) morgue for autopsy, said the OC.
