Brahmanbaria Mayhem: 10 Khelafat leaders, 9 more Hefazat men held
Ten top leaders of Khelafat Majlish were arrested in the past 24 hours until Thursday morning in connection with the clashes and vandalism carried out by Hefazat-e-Islam men in Brahmanbaria last month.
Md Abu Taher, President of Sarail Upazila Khelafat Majlish confessed to his involvement in Brahmanbaria mayhem, saying it was a part of a conspiracy to oust the government from power, said police.
Besides, nine more Hefazat activists were arrested.

So far, 55 cases have been filed and 434 people arrested over the violence, said a press release of Brahmanbaria police.
On March 27, at least five people were killed and around 50 others, including 25 policemen, injured in clashes between members of the law enforcement agencies and locals during Hefazat's demonstrations at Nandanpur in Sadar upazila.
They had staged the protests against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bangladesh visit.

The next day, during Hefazat's countrywide dawn-to-dusk general strike, against police action on their anti-Modi processions in Dhaka, the organisation's activists in Chattogram and other districts set three buildings on fire, including the land office in Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila.
They had also attacked a Chattogram-bound train at Talshohor Rail Station in Brahmanbaria town.

Also, the Hefazat supporters vandalised several private and government establishments, including the municipality building, Alauddin Music Academy, and Foirtala Bus Stand in Sadar upazila.
They had also attacked Brahmanbaria Press Club and confined some journalists to the premises.
B’baria violence: Hefazat leader Abdur Rahim Kasemi held
Police have arrested Hefazat-e-Islam Brahmanbaria district committee joint general secretary Mufti Abdur Rahim Qasemi in connection with a case over violence in the district.
He was arrested from the Vadughar area of the district on Tuesday afternoon.
He was a former teacher of Jamia Yunusiya Madrasa.
District additional superintendent of police (administration and crime) Raich Uddin said that on secret tip, a team of district police raided the Vadughar area and arrested him.
Abdur Rahim Kasemi's involvement in the Hefazat violence was identified through an investigation, he added.
Kasemi resigned from Hefazat-e-Islam on April 23 in protest of sabotage, seeking fair trial of those involved in violence.
In a written statement sent to reporters on the same day, Kasemi said that the extreme chaos created by Hefazat-e-Islam across the country over the arrival of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was inhumane. The loss of life and property of the country cannot be an Islamic act by any means.
Kasemi demanded the government identify and bring to justice those who were involved with it.
Police seek 24-day remand for Mamunul Haque
Police have sought remand of 24 days for former Hefazat-e-Islam joint general secretary Mamunul Haque in three different cases of violence and rape lodged in Sonargaon police station.District police superintendent Jayedul Alam said, on Sunday, police sought 10 days remand in case of rape by enticement, fraud and assault of a woman.“DB police have sought 7 days each for interrogation in Royal resort rampage case and vandalism of upazila Awami League office case,” said the superintendent.On April 30, a woman whom Mamunul claimed as his second wife filed a case against him with Sonargaon police station accusing him of rape on false pretext of marriage, fraud and assault.Also read: Rape case filed against ex-Hefazat leader MamunulThe woman in the case dossier didn’t mention herself as Mamunul Haque’s second wife.According to the case dossier, the victim claimed she had been confined after the Narayanganj resort incident and was not allowed to communicate with her parents at that time.She blamed Mamunul for breaking up her marriage.On April 3, the Hefazat leader was caught with the woman at the Royal Resort. B’baria violence: Hefazat leader Junaid Qasemi held
A team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police have arrested Hefazat-e-Islam leader Maulana Junaid Qasemi in connection with a case of Hefazat violence in Brahmanbaria.
He was arrested from Brahmanbaria at around 2 pm on Saturday, confirmed additional superintendent of police Jisanul Haque Jisan said.
There were multiple cases against Hefazat leader Maulana Junaid Qasemi for his involvement in destructive activities and violence, and the CID had already been assigned with investigating these, he added.
CID was asked to investigate 23 cases filed against the leaders and activists of Hefazat-e-Islam, across the country. The department was given the responsibility on April 19.
Rape case filed against ex-Hefazat leader Mamunul
Mamunul Haque, the former joint secretary general of Hefazat-e-Islam, has been accused of rape on false pretext of marriage by a woman he had claimed to be his wife.
The woman filed the case at Sonargaon Police Station at 10:50am on Friday.
According to the case dossier, the victim claimed she had been confined after the Narayanganj resort incident and was not allowed to communicate with her parents at that time.

She blamed Mamunul for breaking up her marriage.
On April 3, the Hefazat leader was caught with the woman at the Royal Resort. He then claimed that she was his second wife.
Later, a purported phone conversation between Mamunul and his wife was allegedly leaked in which he was heard introducing the victim as his wife.

Hefazat leader Mufti Masood held in Sylhet
Police on Friday claimed to have arrested a top Hefazat-e-Islam leader in Sylhet’s Zakiganj.
Mufti Maulana Masood is the general secretary of the dissolved committee of Zakiganj Upazila Hefazat-e-Islam, officials said.
He was also the vice principal of Shahbagh Jamia Madania Qasimul Ulum Madrasa and the leader of Jamiat-e-Ulama Islam.
Zakiganj police office-in-charge Abul Qasim said Masood was arrested in connection with a case filed on April 20 at Zakiganj police station.
On April 19, despite government restrictions, a procession was held from Maizgram Jame Mosque in Barhal Union of Zakiganj demanding the release of the arrested leaders and activists of Hefazat-e-Islam.

The next day, the police filed a case against 30 to 35 leaders and activists of BNP, Jamaat, Shibir and Hefazat-e-Islam at Zakiganj police station.
So far, seven leaders, including Mufti Masood, have been arrested in the case.
B’baria mayhem: 5 more Hefazat men arrested
Five more people have been arrested in the past 24 hours in connection with last month's mayhem by Hefazat-e-Islam supporters in Brahmanbaria, police said on Friday.
The arrests were made from different parts of Brahmanbaria after identifying the accused from video footage and images taken during the violence, the district police said.
So far, 55 cases have been filed and 392 people nabbed over the rampage, the police said in a release.

Besides, the Hefazat supporters also vandalised several private and government establishments, including Zila Parishad building, municipality building, Police Lines, Industrial School, land office, Alauddin Music Academy, and Foirtala Bus Stand in Sadar upazila.
The supporters had also attacked Brahmanbaria Press Club and confined some journalists to the premises.
Hefazat leader Mufti Harun arrested
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Hefazat-e-Islam leader Mufti Harun Izhar from a madrasha in the city’s Lalkhan Bazar area on Wednesday midnight.
Mufti Harun Izhar was the Education and Cultural Secretary of the just defunct Hefazat-e-Islam and son of Mufti Izhar, said Enamul Hasan, press secretary of the party’s convening committee.
A team of the elite force conducted a drive at Jamiatul Ulum Al Islamia Madrasha around 12 am and arrested Harun Izhar.
He was wanted in eleven cases and had served in jail in a case filed over the grenade attack in Lalkhan Bazar Madrasha that left two students of the institute dead and several injured on October 7, 2013.

Earlier on October 9, 2013, Mufti Harun was arrested in connection with the explosion at the madrasha.
Mufti Harun Izhar also wanted in three more cases filed over Hefazat violence in Dhaka in 2013.

Hefazat leader Mahmud Habibi held in Demra
Police on Wednesday afternoon arrested Hefazat-e-Islam joint secretary general of Dhaka metropolitan (zone 10) Md. Mufti Faisal Mahmud Habibi from the capital’s Demra area.
A team of Mirpur DB police arrested him at around 4 pm.

He worked as the Khatib of Medina Chattar Central Jame Mosque in Demra and lived on Badsha Mia Road of the area.
Many Hefazat leaders have been arrested in the country recently following the vandalism and arson attack carried out by its activists across the country protesting against the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi marking the celebration of golden jubilee of the country’s independence last month.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Wednesday said, "As per our investigation, Hefazat-e-Islam carried out violence with an aim to repeat the incident of Shapla Chattar it unleashed in 2013."
Hefazat leader held in Netrokona
Police have arrested a member of Hefazat-e-Islam's dissolved central committee leader Maulana Abdul Qaium from Netrokona in a case over violence dating back to 2013.
He was arrested from a madrasa in Netrokona’s Kendua upazila on Wednesday, confirmed district Detective Branch (DB) OC Khandaker Saker Ahmed.
Abdul Qaium was the director general of the Malni Jamia Hussainiya Madrasa in Netrokona.

OC Khandaker Saker Ahmed said Maulana Abdul Qaium was the accused in the case filed in connection with the 2013 Hefazat violence in Narayanganj's Sonargaon.
A court arrest warrant was pending against him in that case for a long time, he added.
