Feni tea seller gets Tk20 lakh cashback after buying Walton refrigerator
Sabuj Miah, a tea seller at Feni Sadar upazila, has got Tk20 lakh cashback on the purchase of a Walton refrigerator during the company's ongoing Digital Campaign Season 15 ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
Tuesday, Feni Municipality Mayor Nazrul Islam Swapan Miyaji, Walton Hi-Tech Industries Deputy Managing Director Amdadul Hoque Sarker and Senior Executive Director and film star Amin Khan handed over a cheque of Tk20 lakh to Sabuj at a programme in the city.

Earlier, apparel worker Parvin Akhter of Gazipur Sadar's Kashimpur also received Tk20 lakh cashback after buying a Walton refrigerator, according to a media statement.
Feni madrasa principal held for beating up students
Police detained a madrasa principal in Feni on Sunday for torturing a 7-year-old student by tying him up with iron chain.
The detainee was identified as Fakhrul Islam, principal of Dewlia Nurania Hafezia Madrasa at Puba Chandrapur union in Daganbhuiyan upazila.
Victim Zahidul Hasan was rescued at 3 am when he escaped from the madrasa and came before a police van, said Hasan Imam, Officer-in-Charge of Dagonbhuiyan police station.

Zahidul’s father Abdulah Al Mamun said his son was admitted to the Hifz section of the madrasa this year and many students there alleged the teacher beat them up.
“On Saturday I took Zahid back to madrasa after he fled saying he won’t study there as they torture him. The principal promised such an incident won’t occur again,” he said.
Later at night the accused principal locked Zahidul in a room and injured him by beating him with a stick, said police quoting the victim.

Victim’s father has lodged a complaint with police in this regard, said OC Hasan Imam.
3 families from Feni mourn loss of loved ones in Ctg depot fire
The families of three victims from Feni, who were killed in the BM Container Depot fire, have been grieving since Saturday night.
Salauddin Quader Sabuj, 37, was a firefighter hailing from Sadar upazila of the district; Shahahdat Ullah Majumdar, 38, from Fulgazi upazila was shift-in-charge at BM Container Depot; and Mohammad Yeasin, 28, was a covered van driver, hailing from Sadar upazila of the district.
Yeasin remains missing after the fire incident while the two others were confirmed to have been killed during the fire.
Firefighter Sabuj was a son of Yusuf of Masimpur village and he left behind his wife, one son and one daughter.
During a visit to the house of Sabuj, the UNB correspondent learned that Sabuj visited his home during Eid and that was the last time he saw his family. Sabuj joined Sonagazi Fire Station as a firefighter in 2011.

Sabuj’s wife Marjina said she spoke to her husband around 9pm on Saturday, just before the fire. "When he heard the news, Sabuj rushed to the spot. I could not reach him after the explosion,” she recounts.
On Sunday, the relatives of Sabuj came to know that his body was kept at the mortuary of Chattogram Medical College and Hospital.
He was buried at his home village on Monday.
On the other hand, the family of Shahadat, son of Amin Ullah Majumdar of Fulgazi upazila, is also bemoaning the loss of the only bread earner of the family.
The parents of Shahadat have been lamenting since Saturday night after they heard the news of their son’s death.
Shahadat was talking to his parents on a video call but their connection got snapped after the explosion on the fateful night.

Shahadat, a father of a two and half month old daughter, was on leave and joined his work on June 3.
The family members of Shahadat collected his body from the Chattogram Medical College and Hospital morgue on Sunday and brought him back to his village for burial.
Yeasin, son of Khoka Mia of Fulgazi upazila was the second issue of his parents.
After the massive inferno at Chattogram depot, the family of Yeasin has no idea about his whereabouts.He worked as a covered van driver at Spectra Company.
During a visit to Yeasin’s house, this UNB correspondent found that his mother Kokila Akter is continuously crying out the name of Yeasin.
Mohammad Nahid, a cousin of Yeasin, said: "He was at the depot when the blaze erupted and we saw the fire incident at the depot through his facebook as he went into the live stream. But suddenly an explosion occurred and he went missing."
Cop suspended for ‘raping girl’ in Feni
A police constable of Feni Model Police Station has been suspended for allegedly raping a girl.
The suspended police constable is Sharif Uddin Bablu, 26, son of Jamal Uddin of Jamtala Chowdhury Bari in Chhagalnaiya upazila.

The action was taken after the girl lodged a written complaint with Feni Model Police, said Mohammad Nizam Uddin, officer-in-charge of the police station.
According to the complaint, the policeman brought the girl to a hotel in Mahipal area of Feni from Zorarganj upazila of Chattogram on false promise of marriage and raped her there several times.

As the girl put pressure on him to marry her, Bablu refused to marry and stopped communicating with her, she wrote in her complaint.
Legal action will be taken in this regard, said the OC.
House tutor arrested for trying to rape 9-year-old in Feni
Police arrested a man for trying to rape a nine-year-old girl whom he tutored at her home in Parshuram upazila of Feni.
The arrestee was identified as Md Afaz Uddin, 24, imam of a local mosque and son of Abu Bakkar from Mirzanagr union.
On Sunday evening, Afaz went to the victim’s house to teach her Arabic like every day and tried to rape her when her mother went out of sight, said Saiful Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Parshuram police station.
Hearing the girl’s cries her mother rushed to the room and caught him during the crime.

The girl’s mother called national emergency service number 999 with the help of neighbors and police members from Parshuram police station detained the accused.
Later a case was filed at Parshuram police station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act following a complaint from the victim’s mother, said the OC.
On Monday, the accused was sent to jail after police produced him before court.
The victim’s statement has been recorded by Feni Senior Judicial Magistrate Fatema Tuj Johra, said the OC.
Security guard burned to death in Feni
A 58-year-old security guard of a building was burned to death in a fire that broke out following a gas cylinder blast at Charipur in Feni district town on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Anisur Rahman of Phulhata Panchagram in Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat district.
Purnachandra Mritsuddi, deputy director of Feni Fire Service and Civil Defense, said a gas cylinder in the six-story building, owned by Abu Ahad Nayan,exploded with a big bang when Anisur was trying to light the oven for cooking around 11 pm, leaving him dead on the spot.

According to local people, the building has no gas connection and the tenants of the building use gas cylinder for cooking purpose.
On information, a firefighting unit rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze.
They also recovered the charred body of Anisur from the spot.

Police suspect the explosion occurred due to gas cylinder leakage.
Wife arrested for burning sleeping husband to death in Feni
Police arrested a woman on Saturday night for burning her husband to death by pouring boiling water over him as he slept in Feni.
The arrestee was identified as Khadija binte Shams Rupa Chowdhury, wife of deceased Kausar Alam Taimur, 55.
Taimur, a former cricketer of Feni Friendship Cricket Club and son of Abu Tyeb Chowdhury from Shaheed Selina Parvin Road, succumbed to his burn injuries on Sunday around 12 pm at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Rupa was arrested after a case was filed at Feni model police station following a complaint received from Taimur’s brother Tanjur Chowdhury, said Nizam Uddin, Officer-in-Charge of Feni model police station.
Tanjur Chowdhury said, around 5 am on April 11, Rupa and Taimur were having a fight over a family feud that was long going on between them.
“After hearing my brother’s cries we rushed to their room and found him burnt by boiling water. He was first taken to Feni General Hospital then referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital and later was admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery with 70 % body burn,” he said.

Taimur’s family claimed he had left a statement in his deathbed signed by him that said, ”I, Kausar Alam Chowdhury consciously said my wife Rupa Chowdhury is involved in this incident. She poured hot water on me while I was sleeping with the intention of killing me."
However, accused Rupa denied her involvement in this incident saying someone conspired against her.
Cop held in Feni for sodomising teen
A 35-year-old police constable has been arrested for repeatedly sexually assaulting a teenage boy in Feni, officials said on Friday.
The arrestee has been identified as Md Yunus, who was deployed at Feni Model Police Station. He has also been placed under suspension.
According to the case statement, Yunus sodomised the boy over a period of time and even threatened him with arrest if he narrated his ordeal to anyone.

Nizam Uddin, the officer-in-charge of Feni Model Police Station, said the accused was arrested on a complaint from the teenager's parents, produced in a court and remanded in judicial custody.
2 workers killed as truck ploughs into divider in Feni
Two construction workers were killed as a truck ploughed through an under-construction divider on Feni-Noakhali road in Dagonbhuiyan upazila of Feni district on Sunday night.
The deceased were identified as Ajmer, 28, son of Abul Hossain of Mollaghata area of Barahiguni in Dagonbhuiyan upazila and Abul Khayer, 35, son of Sadek Ali of Mia Bazar Ramchandrapur area of Cumilla.

Dagonbhuiyan Police Station Inspector Muhammad Hasan Imam said workers of contractor company NDE were working on a divider on Feni-Noakhali road at night.
The accident occurred around 8:30pm when the truck ploughed into the divider after its driver lost control over the steering, leaving them dead on the spot.

On information, police recovered the bodies and sent them to Feni General Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
Police seized the truck from the spot. However, the driver and his assistant managed to flee the scene, police added.
Feni food factory catches fire
A fire broke out at a food processing factory at Kashimpur area of Feni town on Friday noon.
The fire started around 2pm at Star Line Food and Beverage factory near Feni-Noakhali regional road, said Purna Chandra Mutsuddi, deputy assistant director of Feni Fire Service and Civil Defence.
On information, 15 units of firefighters from Feni and Noakhali rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control after four hours, he added.
The origin of the fire could not be known yet. No casualties were reported so far, said the official.
