4 to die for murder in Rajshahi
A Rajshahi court on Sunday sentenced four people to death for killing a man in 2021.
Judge Anup Kumar of the Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal pronounced the judgment.

The convicts are Badal Mandal, 46, of Shampur Paschimpara village in Niamatpur upazila of Naogaon, Bimal Singh, 50, of Enayetpur Chorkhair village in Tanore upazila, his wife Anjali Rani, 45, and son Subodh Singh, 28.
The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each
According to the case statement, Prakash Singh, 20, son of Nirmal Singh of Enayetpur Chorkhair village and a cleaning staff at a sweetmeat shop in Rajshahi, was found dead near Banshidharpur bridge in Tanore upazila with wound marks.
Father of Nirmal filed a case at Tanore police station in this regard.

Convict Badal Mandal had an extramarital affair with Anjali Rani.
As Prakash came to know about their secrete relationship he was killed in a planned way.
Nusrat killing in Feni: Family demand execution of judgment
Although three year have elapsed since the gruesome murder of Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi, her family is still waiting to see the execution of the judgment.
Nusrat, a student of Sonagazi Islamia Madrasah, was set on fire on April 6 in 2019 on the roof of the madrasa she attended by people loyal to its principal Sirajuddowla whom she had accused of sexually harassing her.
She succumbed to her injuries on April 10, 2019.
On Saturday, a doa mahfil was held and munajat was offered seeking salvation of her departed soul on the 3rd death anniversary of Nusrat, said Mahmudul Hasan Noman, elder brother of Nusrat.
On Sunday, Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) will place wreaths at the grave of Nusrat, he said.
“Propagandas are being spread on social networking sites Facebook, Youtube, Instragram defaming our family by the relatives of the convicts,” said Noman.
Already a case has been filed under the ICT Act against their propaganda which is under investigation at PBI.
Talking to UNB, Shirin Akter, mother of Nusrat, said “We have got justice by the judicial court and I have heard that the condemned convicts filed petitions before the Supreme Court. We are requesting the Prime Minister to take steps for quick execution of the judgment”
On October 29, 2019, the death references of the death-row convicts reached the High Court, said the plaintiff’s lawyer advocate M Shahjahan Saju.

The Chief Justice formed a bench for hearing the appeal on priority basis but later the bench was cancelled due to Covid situation, he said.
No new bench has been formed yet to hear the appeal, he added.
The gruesome killing
Nusrat was set on fire on April 6, 2019 on the roof of Sonagazi Islamia Madrasha by people loyal to principal Sirajuddowla whom she had accused of sexually harassing her.
She succumbed to her injuries four days later at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
A case was filed with Sonagazi Police Station on April 8. Police pressed charges in court against 16 people.
Twelve of the accused reportedly confessed to their involvement in the killing of Nusrat.
Judgment
A tribunal in Feni sentenced the 16 people to death for their roles in killing Nusrat on October 24, 2019.
The tribunal also fined the convicts Tk one lakh each.
The convicts are madrasa principal SM Sirajuddowla, Awami League leader Ruhul Amin, Shahadat Hossain Shamim, Nur Uddin, Imran Hossain Mamun, Hafez Abdul Quader, Iftekhar Uddin Rana, Councillor Maksud Alam alias Moksud, Kamrunnahar Moni, Saifur Rahman Mohammad Zobair, Javed, Umme Sultana Popy, Mohiuddin Shakil, Mohammad Shamim, Abdur Rahim Sharif and Absar Uddin
On May 10, 2019, Moazzem Hossain, the then officer-in-charge of Sonagazi Model Police Station, was suspended in connection with the murder.

He was accused of unlawfully interrogating Nusrat and recording it on phone. A video of the interrogation went viral on social media, prompting a lawyer to file a case against him on April 15 under the Digital Security Act.
Ashish reveals motive of actor Sohel killing: Rab
Underworld top terror Sanjidul Islam Emon shot dead film star Sohel Chowdhury outside the now defunct Trumps Club of Banani over insulting businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai in public at the club.
Asadul Islam alias Bunty Islam and arrested Ashish Roy Chowdhury alias Bottle Chowdhury planned to kill the actor in 1998.
The duo along Aziz Mohammad gave the task to Emon to finish Sohel.
It was revealed by Ashish, who was arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) from a house in Gulshan in the city on Tuesday night.
During primary interrogation under the Rab's custody, Ashis admitted his involvement in the killing, said Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of the Legal and Media Wing of the (Rab) while briefing reporters at the Karwan Bazar Rab media centre in the city on Wednesday.

Quoting Ashis the Rab's media wing director said that the then contacted top terrorist Sanjidul Islam Emon, a regular visitor to the Trumps Club.
Then Bunty , Ashish and Aziz offered Emon to kill Sohel. Emon agreed to assassinate Sohel to further strengthen his relationship with them and Emon later carried out the assassination, said Rab spokesman.
On 24 July 1996, Sohel had an urgument with Aziz and at one stage a scuffle broke out. Aziz became very angry with Sohail, according to Rab interrogation.
On 9 December, 1998, actor Sohel Chowdhury was shot dead outside the now defunct Tramps Club, housed in Abedin Tower in Banani’s Road 17.
A murder case was filed in this regard at Gulshan police station followed by a complaint lodged by Sohel’s brother Towhidul Islam Chowdhury.
On 30 July, 1999, Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police submitted a charge sheet against nine people in this case.
On 30 October, 2001, Dhaka’s third additional metropolitan session judge court framed charges against the nine accused. After two years of indictment, the case was transferred to Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal.
Actor Sohel Chowdhury murder: accused held after 24 years
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Tuesday night arrested an accused in the sensational murder case of actor Sohel Chowdhury from the city’s Gulshan area.
Accused Ashish Roy Chowdhury alias Bottle Chowdhury had been absconding for years, law enforcers said.
He was arrested from a house near Gulshan’s Pink City around 11 pm, said RAB Headquarters assistant director media ASP Imran Khan.
RAB had been surrounding his residence since the evening, he added.
On December 19, 1998, actor Sohel Chowdhury was shot dead outside the now defunct Tramps Club, housed in Abedin Tower in Banani’s Road 17.
A murder case was filed in this regard at Gulshan police station followed by a complaint lodged by Sohel’s brother Towhidul Islam Chowdhury.

On July 30, 1999, Abul Kashem Bepari, additional police commissioner of Detective Branch submitted a charge sheet against nine people in this case.
On October 30, 2001, Dhaka’s third additional metropolitan session judge court framed charges against the nine accused. After two years of indictment, the case was transferred to Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-2.
The same year, one of the accused appealed to the High Court.
Since 2003, the trial in the case remained suspended for 19 years.
Of the nine accused in the case, two including Ashish had remained absconding.
2 to die for 2017 underworld murder in Khulna
A Khulna court on Tuesday sentenced two people to death and two others to life imprisonment in a case filed over the murder of a man in 2017.
Khulna Public Safety Disturbance Crime Prevention Tribunal Judge Md Saifuzzaman Hero handed down the judgment.
The condemned convicts are --Sumon Mallik and Ashiqur Rahman Ashique while the lifers are identified as Kalu alias Choto Kalu and Md Taleb.

Sumon, Ashique and Kalu were tried in absentia.
The tribunal also fined Kalu and Taleb Tk 10,000 each.
According to the prosecution, Shahidul and the convicts had long been involved in different criminal cases including mugging, robbery and drug running in Khulna city.
In the meantime, the convicts developed an enmity with Shahidul over controlling the illegal businesses.
As a sequel to the enmity, the convicts stabbed Shahidul indiscriminately near Joragate area of the city on July 11, 2017, leaving him critically injured.
He was taken to Khulna Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

An FIR was lodged with Kotwali Model Police and police submitted chargesheet against seven people on August 22, 2017.
The court also acquitted three others as allegations brought against them could not be proved.
Housewife killed ‘for not paying extortion money’ in Barishal
A housewife was killed allegedly for refusing to pay extortion money in Barishal city on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Afia Khatun, 45, wife of former army member Gias Uddin and a resident of Khasipur Fishery Road area of Barishal city.
Deceased’s husband Gias Uddin said local terrorist Md. Monu had been demanding extortion from him for building a new house in the area.

As he did not pay the extortion money, Monu beat up Gias at first and later hit Afia Khatun with a brick, he said.
Seriously injured Afia was rushed to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Barishal Airport Police Station officer-in-charge Kamolesh Halder said on information, a police team has been sent to the spot.
Faridpur school student found murdered
A 15-year-old school student who pulled a rickshaw to support his family, has been found dead in Faridpur.
Police said on Saturday that Sabbir Biswas, son of Alamgir Biswas of Char Madhabdia union under Faridpur Sadar upazila, was, in all likelihood, killed by muggers for money as well as his hand-pulled rickshaw.
Sabbir’s uncle Jahangir Biswas said the Class VIII student of Padmar Char High School in Guldangi had been missing since Friday morning.

His body was recovered by police from a playground at Doyarampur in Macchar union this morning.
Faridpur additional superintendent of police (Sadar circle) Suman Ranjan Sarkar said, "We suspect that muggers killed the school student to steal his rickshaw."
Sabujbagh housewife murder: AC repair team-turned-murderous robbers arrested
Police have arrested three suspects in the case filed over a housewife's murder in the city's Sabujbagh last Saturday.
Air-conditioner repairman Bappy, 31, and his two accomplices Sumon Hossain Hridoy, 22, and Rubel, 42, were arrested from Nolchhiti of Jhalokathi district and Dhaka city.
Tania Akter, wife of Moinul Islam, was hacked to death on the evening of March 26 at her home in Begunbari under Sabujbagh Police station. She was residing in a rented flat on the first floor of a building at Begunbari Master Goli with her 3-year-old daughter and 10-month-old son. Her husband Moinul Hossain, a medical technologist, divided his time between Dhaka and Cumilla for work, and was not in town during the incident.
Briefing reporters at Paltan Police Station, Deputy Commissioner (Motijheel Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Abdul Ahad on Tuesday evening said Tania was hacked to death as she tried to prevent the arrestees from robbing the flat, after they got in on the pretense of fixing the air conditioner.

Ahad said air-conditioner repairman Bappy, who was previously known to the family, went to the flat along with Hridoy and Rubel on March 26 afternoon to repair A/C. At one stage they opened the cupboard (almari) in the room and started shuffling through things. When Tania saw this, she tried to stop them.
At one stage, Rubel immediately grabbed Tania and Bappi pulled out a Chapati from his bag, hitting her three times on the head and back to confirm her death. At that time, when the children started crying, the detainees tied the children's faces and body parts with scotch tape. The detainees then took away the gold ornaments in the cupboard of the house, the earrings in the victim's ear, a gold chain around the neck of one of the children, money and the victim's mobile set, the DC (Motijheel division) said.
Victims' husband Moinul Islam filed a case at Sabujbagh police station. Location of AC maker Bappi was identified with the help of modern information technology.
Based on secret information, a special police team arrested Bappy from Nolchhiti of Jhalokathis district on Monday. Based on his statement, the police arrested Hridoy and Rubel from the city’s Rampura in the city today (Tuesday), the DC said.
Two gold chains and a pair of earrings were recovered from their possession, he added.
4 to die for killing three-wheeler driver in Khulna
A Khulna Court on Tuesday sentenced four people to death for killing a three-wheeler driver in 2016.
Khulna Additional District and Sessions Judge SM Ashiqur Rahman handed down the judgment.

The condemned convicts are- Md Nur Islam, Jony Das, of Kishoreganj district, Md Rony Shikdar and Md Masud Rana Mollah, of Chattogram district.
The court also fined the four Tk 50,000 each.
According to the case statement, the convicts strangled driver Wahidur Rahman Ripon to death at Labanachara of the city on January 11 in 2016 to snatch his three-wheeler.
They stabbed Wahidur to confirm the death and fled with the vehicle.

Later, the four people with the vehicle were arrested from Kashiani in Gopalganj district. Ripon's brother filed a case at Labanchara police station against them, said state counsel Kazi Sabbir Ahmed.
The accused gave statements before the court confessing to their guilt. On December 31, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Inspector Mir Atahar Ali, the investigating officer in the case, submitted a chargesheet against the four.
Lover of woman who murdered her two children arrested
Police on Monday arrested the man who was the alleged lover of the mother who killed her two children in Brahmanbaria and tried to blame it on Napa syrup.
The arrestee was identified as Safiullah.
He was arrested from the capital’s Abdullahpur area around 5pm, said Molla Mohammad Shahin, Additional Superintendent of Brahmanbaria police.
Earlier on March 17, Lima Begum was arrested on allegations of killing her two children by feeding them sweetmeat laced with poison.
On March 10, the two siblings -- Yasin Khan, 7, and Morsalin Khan, 5 -- allegedly died after consuming Napa syrup at their home as they were down with high fever.
The deaths of the two children shook the entire country and raised a question over the quality of Napa syrup.
Ismail Khan, the father of the two children, had lodged a complaint at the Ashuganj police station. Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered by police.

Two probe bodies were formed in this connection, while samples of the syrups of the same batch were collected for testing. But after testing, officials of the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) said the concerned batch of Napa syrup was found to be "safe".
Later, police in an investigation found that Lima had developed an illicit affair with Shafiullah while working at a local rice mill, and in order to get married they planned to kill her two children, claimed police.
Lima had admitted her guilt during police questioning.
