Mother attempts suicide after ‘killing son’ in Laxmipur
A woman tried to kill herself hanging from the ceiling allegedly after killing her four-year-old son at her house at Laharkandi village in Sadar upazila of Laxmipur district Sunday midnight.
The deceased was identified as Ayan Rahman, son of Ajgar Rahman, an expatriate.

Quoting local people, Jashim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said Sabina Yasmin along with her son Ayan used to live at the rented house of one Hafiz Kha as her husband is a Saudi expatriate.
The couple used to fight over family issues over phone.
At one stage of altercation on Sunday night, Sabina took her son to her room and locked it.

Hearing sound of groaning from the room, local people, her father-in-law and brother-in-law broke open the room and found Sabina trying to hang herself from the ceiling of the house with a scarf.
They also found Ayan’s slaughtered body on the bed.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to a local hospital morgue for autopsy.
Mother-son duo found dead in Kushtia
A mother-son duo was found dead in her parents' house in the Thanapara Bandh area of Kushtia town early on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Aklima Khatun, wife of auto driver Ratan, and their nine-month-old son Jim.
Locals said that Aklima went to her father's house, adjacent to her husband's home, on Tuesday night as repair work was underway at the family home.
On Wednesday morning, locals found Aklima's body hanging from the ceiling in her parents' house and her child lying dead on a bed in the same room.
Family members of the deceased said that Aklima was suffering from mental depression and had been undergoing treatment for a long time.
Police said the bodies were sent to Kushtia General Hospital's morgue for post-mortem.

Sabbirul Alam, officer-in-charge of Kushtia Model police station, said, "Prima facie, it seems that Aklima committed suicide after suffocating her child to death."

"However, we are waiting for the post-mortem report," he added.
Auto -rickshaw driver killed in Lakshmipur, 1 arrested
An auto-rickshaw driver was hacked to death over a dispute at Mohammadpur village in sadar upazila on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Md Dulal, 50.
According to locals, Dulal’s son Murad recorded a video of two people -Nazim and Asif -in his mobile phone while they were stealing betel nuts from an orchard Thursday noon.
The two thieves hired their friend Mehedi Hasan to threaten Murad of killing if he shows the footage to the orchard owner.

Dulal and Mehedi’s father locked into an altercation over the matter. At one stage, Mehedi suddenly attacked Dulal with a knife, leaving him injured.
Locals rushed severely injured Dulal to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital where doctors announced him dead.

On Friday morning, police arrested Mehedi, said Officer-in-Charge of Chandraganj police station AKA Fazlur Haque.
2 get death penalty for killing college student in Barishal
A court in Barisal on Wednesday sentenced two people to death and four others to life imprisonment in a case over the murder of a college student.
Those who got death penalty are Ziaul Haque Lalon and Riyadh Sardar while the lifers are Mamun, Imran, Biplob and Wasim Sardar.
Barisal Public Safety Disturbance Crime Prevention Tribunal Judge TM Musa delivered the verdict.
The court also acquitted 10 other accused as their guilt was not proved.

However, victim’s father Farooq Hossain Serniabat said those who got acquittal were also involved in the murder. “Once I get the copy of the full verdict, I will appeal to the High Court.”
According to the case, Sohag Serniabat, son of Mohammad Hossain Serniabat of Uzirpur Municipal area of Barisal, was stabbed to death on September 4 in 2014. Earlier, the accused vandalized the business establishment of Sohag for extortion of Tk 1 lakh.
Later, Khorshed Alam, uncle of the deceased, filed a case against 13 people with Wazirpur police station. Following investigation, police submitted a chargesheet on November 22 of the same year.
Man gets death penalty for killing 4 of a family
A court here on Tuesday sentenced a man to death in a case filed over killing his elder brother and three members of his family last year.
The convict is Raihanur Rahman, 36, son of Shahjahan of Khalisha village in Kalaroa upazila of the district.

Satkhira Senior District and Sessions Judge Sheikh Mafizur Rahman handed down the verdict.
According to the prosecution, Raihanur was unemployed and used to depend on his elder brother Shahinur. Raihanur and Shahinur’s wife Sabina Khatun had been at loggerheads over the issue.
On October 14, 2020, Raihanur stabbed Shahinur Rahman, 40, Sabina Khatun, 30, their two children—Siam Hossain Mahi, 10 and Tasnim Sultana, 8, to death after tying up their hands and legs.

Moyna Khatun, mother-in-law of Shahinur, filed a case in this connection.
Later, a team of Criminal Investigation Department arrested Raihanur and three others in this connection.
Raihanur gave his confessional statements under section 164.
Naogaon: Woman's body found, daughter-in-law detained
The body of an elderly woman was found in her son's house in Parnurulabad village of Naogaon's Manda upazila on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Aklima Begum (60). Police suspect she was killed and have detained her daughter-in-law for questioning.
However, Laili Begum, the daughter-in-law of the deceased, said, "My husband is a microbus driver in Dhaka. My mother-in-law used to live with my brother-in-law. I brought her to our house on Thursday."

"She was alone in the house for few days as I had gone to visit my parents. When I returned home on Monday, I found the door locked from the outside. Later with the help of neighbours, I broke open the door only to find the body lying in a pool of blood," she said.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Manda Police Station Shahinur Rahman said the daughter-in-law of the deceased has been detained for questioning in connection with the death.
4 get life term for killing Ruet driver
A Rajshahi court on Wednesday sentenced four people to life term jail for killing a bus driver of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Ruet) in 2018.
Justice Anup Kumar of the Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal pronounced the verdict.
The convicts are- Sabbir Hossain,, Nur Nabi Hossain alias Hridoy, Sohail Rana alias Sohail and SM Sayem.

The court also fined them Tk 10000 each, in default, to suffer one month more RI.
There are two other accused in the case whose verdict is still pending with a separate juvenile court.

Abdus Salam, a bus driver, was stabbed by the accused on the south-east side of Agrani School and College adjacent to RUET on April 23, 2018 while attempting to resolve a local conflict. Later, he died at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital.
Abdus Salam's son Pias filed a case with Motihar police station against unidentified accused.
Teenager stabbed to death in the capital
A teenager was stabbed to death in the capital's Kamrangirchar area on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Sanwar Hossain (18), a match factory worker and son of Md. Omarchan of Lalbagh’s Posta area.
Md. Bachchu Mia, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost, confirmed the incident.

He said the body was kept in the hospital morgue and the incident was reported to the concerned police station. Some of the people were to be interrogated, he said.
Deceased's uncle Md Rubel said that he was stabbed by some people and left at Acharwala Ghat Mominbagh Madrasa alley, he was later rushed to DMCH, where the doctor on-duty declared him dead.

Rubel said he did not know who stabbed his nephew but locals saw several people, including one named Nura, fleeing the scene.
Sinha murder trial: Fourth witness testifies before court
The second day of second phase of testimonial statements in the murder case of Maj (retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan concluded at Cox’s Bazar court Monday with the testimony and statement of the fourth witness.
The court adjourned at around 5 pm with CNG driver Kamal Hossain’s testimony as an eyewitness and interrogation by defense lawyers.
The statement was recorded before Cox’s Bazar district and session court Judge Md Ismail.
Fifteen accused of the murder case were presented to the court under intense security around 10 am Monday.

Public Prosecutor Faridul Alam said six witnesses of the case were sent a notice on Sunday.
On September 7, the fifth witness of the case will be produced before the court.
Meanwhile defense lawyer Rana Dasgupta said there is no proof that the fourth witness is a CNG driver and he gave a different statement to the Investigation Officer earlier.
In the three-day testimonial statements recording August 23 to 25, plaintiff Sharmin Sahariya Ferdous, sister of Sinha, and witness Shahedul Islam Sifat’s testimony were recorded. On Sunday, third witness of the case Mohammad Ali’s statement was recorded at the court.
On July 31 last year, Sinha was shot dead at the Shamlapur police check-post in Baharchhara Union of Cox's Bazar while returning to town after filming for a documentary.
On August 5, Sinha's sister, Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, filed a case with Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court accusing nine members of law enforcement agencies of being involved in the killing, including Pradeep Kumar Das and Baharchhara police outpost inspector Liakat Ali.
On December 13, 2020, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) submitted a charge sheet against 15 people, including police source Ayaz and three APBn members, in connection with the case filed over Sinha's murder at a checkpost manned by APBn, where officers of the Teknaf police station intercepted Sinha's car.
All of the 15 accused in the chargesheet are currently in jail. Of them 12 have given confessional statements before court except OC Pradeep Kumar Das, constable Sagar Dev and Rubel Sharma.

Other accused of the case are- Inspector of Baharchara Police outpost Liakat Ali, sub-inspectors Nandolal Rakkhit and Tutul, assistant sub-inspector Liton Mia; constables Shafanur Karim, Kamal Hossain, Abdullah AL Mamun, , Md Rajib and Md Abdullah, ASI of APBN Md Shahjahan and Nurul Amin, Md Nizamuddin and Ayaz Uddin.
Journo Muzakkir Murder: Court stays bail order of three accused
Chamber court of the Appellate Division stayed the High Court’s bail order of three accused over the case of journalist Borhan Uddin Muzakkir murder amid political infighting in Noakhali's Companiganj.
Justice Obaydul Hasan stayed the bail order for six weeks after a petition was filed by the state side, said Deputy Attorney General Md Bashirullah.
On August 29, the High Court granted three-month bail to Yousuf Nabi alias Bahadur, Abdul Amin and Azizul Haque Manik, the three accused arrested in a case filed over the murder of journalist Muzakkir at Chaprashirhat in Noakhali's Companiganj.
Bench of Justice Farid Ahmed and Justice Mohi Uddin Shamim passed the order after hearing separate bail pleas of the defendants.
On February 19, clashes and gunfight took place between the supporters of Bashurhat Municipality Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza and former Companiganj upazila chairman Mizanur Rahman Badal over territorial supremacy.

Both groups used firearms in the clash and the law enforcers fired several rounds of tear gas and shotguns to control the situation.
Muzakkir, a Noakhali district correspondent of online news portal Barta Bazar and also Companiganj correspondent for The Daily Bangladesh Samachar, suffered bullet wounds and fell on the ground when he was taking pictures and filming the intra-party clash.
The critically injured journalist was rushed to Noakhali General Hospital and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to injuries on February 20.
On February 23, Muzakkir's father Nurul Huda Master filed a case with Companiganj Police Station accusing unnamed people. Later the case was transferred to the Police Bureau of Investigation.
