Global Covid cases top 587 million
The overall number of Covid cases has now surged past 587 million amid a rise in new infections in parts of the world.
According to the latest global data, the total case count mounted to 587,594,865 and the death toll reached 6,433,809 on Saturday morning.
The US has recorded 93,866,641 cases so far and 1,058,637 people have died from the virus in the country, the data shows.
India's daily Covid-19 caseload Friday again surpassed the 20,000 mark after remaining below it for the past five days, officials said.
According to federal health ministry data released on Friday morning, 20,551 new cases of Covid were reported in 24 hours, taking the total tally to 44,107,588 in the country.
The cases reported on Friday mark an increase in comparison to 19,893 cases on Thursday.
With the reporting of fresh cases, India's active caseload currently stands at 135,364.
The country also logged 70 related deaths in 24 hours, pushing the overall death toll to 526,600 since the beginning of the pandemic, the ministry said.

With the increase in cases, the daily positivity rate stands at 5.14% while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 4.64%, the ministry data showed.
Covid in Bangladesh
Two more people died from Covid and 253 tested positive for the virus in Bangladesh in 24 hours till Friday.
The country's total fatalities and caseload reached 29,302 and 2,006,899, respectively, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The daily case positivity rate dropped to 6.06% from Thursday's 5.14% as 5,002 samples were tested.
The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.46%. The recovery rate rose to 97% from Thursday's 96.97%.

Three more persons died from Covid and 375 tested positive for the virus in Bangladesh in 24 hours till Wednesday.
The country's total fatalities and caseload reached 29,298 and 2,006,368, respectively, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The daily case positivity rate dropped to 6.53% from Tuesday's 7.72% as 5,785 samples were tested.
The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.46%. The recovery rate rose to 96.95% from Tuesday's 96.92%.

The US has recorded 93,319,702 cases so far and 1,055,975 people have died from the virus in the country, the data shows.

The daily positivity rate stands at 3.34 percent and the weekly positivity rate was 4.79 percent.
The Chinese mainland Tuesday reported 38 locally transmitted confirmed Covid cases, including 12 in Hainan and 10 in Gansu, according to the National Health Commission's report Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Singapore reported 10,230 new cases of Covid on Tuesday, bringing the total tally to 1,728,995.
Four more deaths were reported from Covid on Tuesday, bringing the total death toll to 1,524, the country's health ministry said.
Covid in Bangladesh
Bangladesh reported 142 Covid-linked deaths and 31,422 cases in July, the highest death toll and cases in the last five months since March this year, said the health authorities.
Among the deceased, 57 were unvaccinated while seven received the first dose, 52 the second dose and 26 the third dose of a Covid vaccine according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Besides, 34,901 patients recovered from the disease during this period.
The country recorded 85 deaths with 8,000 cases in March while 1,114 cases with five deaths in April, 816 cases with four deaths in May and 20,278 cases with 18 deaths in June.
On Monday, it reported single death with 349 new cases.
So far, the country's total fatalities reached 29,292 and caseload 2,005,606.
The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.46 percent. The recovery rate rose to 96.90 percent on Monday.
Bangladesh reported its first zero Covid death on November 20 last year since the pandemic broke out here in March 2020.
The country registered its highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year and daily fatalities of 264 on August 10 in the same year.

New Zealand recorded 5,312 new community cases of COVID-19 and 28 more deaths, the Ministry of Health said on Monday.
There are currently a total of 1,502 deaths confirmed as attributable to COVID-19, either as the underlying cause of death or as a contributing factor since the pandemic began in New Zealand, the health ministry said.
New Zealand has reported 1,608,959 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic hit the country in early 2020.
