Covid keeps surging: Bangladesh reports 2 more deaths with 1,902 cases
Bangladesh registered two more Covid-linked deaths with 1,902 new cases in 24 hours till Sunday morning amid an upward trend of infections.
The fresh numbers took the country's total caseload to 1,978, 689 and the total fatalities to 29,162, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The daily case positivity rate rose to 15.53 per cent from Saturday’s 13.22 per cent as 12,246 samples were tested during the period, said the DGHS.

Of the deceased, one was man and another woman. They were from Dhaka and Chattogram divisions.
On Saturday, the country recorded six Covid-linked deaths with 1,105 new cases.
The mortality rate declined to 1.47 per cent. The recovery rate declined to 96.44 per cent from Friday’s 96.52 per cent as 307 patients recovered during this period.
In June, the country reported 18 Covid-linked deaths and 20,201 new cases, according to the DGHS.

The daily case positivity rate dropped to 13.22 from Friday’s 15.31 per cent as 8,177 samples were tested during the period, said the DGHS.

Of the deceased, three were men and three women. Of them three were from Dhaka division, two from Chattogram and one from Mymensingh division.
On Friday, the country recorded 5 more Covid deaths with 1,897 cases.
The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.48 per cent. The recovery rate declined to 96.52 per cent from Friday’s 96.56 per cent as 233 patients recovered during this period.
In June, the country reported 18 Covid-linked deaths and 20,201 new cases, according to the DGHS.

The daily case positivity rate slightly increased to 15.70 per cent from Wednesday’s 15.23 per cent as 13,905 samples were tested during the period, said the DGHS.

Of the deceased three were men and one was woman. Of them two were from Chattogram division and one each from Dhaka and Rajshahi divisions.
On Wednesday, the country recorded 2,241cases with zero deaths from Covid-19.
The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.48 per cent. The recovery rate declined to 96.64 per cent from Tuesday’s 96.73 per cent as 290 patients recovered during this period.

Bangladesh recorded another death from Covid-19 with 1,319 new cases reported in 24 hours till Thursday morning.
On Wednesday the country recorded one death and 1,135 cases from Covid-19.

Govt alert for rising cases
Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Monday urged all to maintain health protocols as the number of Covid cases started to rise in Bangladesh.
“Covid has not yet been eradicated yet and the situation may take alarming turn any time although it is normal now,” said the minister at the Secretariat after a meeting on automation of admission process in private medical and dental colleges.
He said Covid cases have increased a bit in the country with 109 people infected with the virus on Sunday.
Many eminent personalities including ministers have already been infected. “Everyone must follow health rules and wear a mask,” he added.
Zahid also urged those who have not been vaccinated yet to get vaccinated immediately.
Global Covid cases near 539 million
The overall number of Covid cases is now approaching 539 million amid a rise in new infections in parts of the world.
According to the latest global data, the total case count mounted to 538,715,936 while the death toll from the virus reached 6,328,141 on Friday morning.
The US has recorded 87,114,740 cases so far and 1,035,320 people have died from the virus in the country, the data shows.

India's Covid-19 tally rose to 43,207,265 on Thursday, as 9,743 new cases were registered in 24 hours across the country, showed the federal health ministry's data.
Besides, eight deaths from the pandemic registered across the country since Tuesday morning took the total death toll to 524,723.
