‘Three robbers’ killed in Feni ‘gunfight’
Three suspected robbers were killed in a reported gunfight with police while they were trying to flee after killing a security guard at Beker Bazar in Dagonbhuiya upazila early Thursday.
The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.
The security guard was identified as Abdul Mannan alias Manu, 50, son of Nur Nabi of Asrafpur village in the upazila.
Quoting local people, Aslam Shikdar, officer-in-charge of Dagonbhuiya Police Station, said a gang of robbers swooped on Beker Bazar for committing robbery in the dead of night.
When the robbers were loading looted valuables on a truck, the security guard obstructed them.
Being resisted, the robbers tied his neck with a towel and strangled him to death.
On information, police conducted a drive to arrest the robbers.
However, police managed to catch four robbers after a hot chase.
A gunfight took place between the robbers and the policemen when the robbers tried to snatch their associates from police custody, leaving two people dead on the spot and another injured.
The injured was taken to a local hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Police recovered the bodies and sent those to a local hospital morgue for autopsy.
‘Terrorist’ killed in Gazipur ‘gunfight’ with Rab
An alleged terrorist was killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) early Tuesday in Tongi T&T Bazar area in Gazipur.
‘Drug trader’ killed in Pabna ‘gunfight’
A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Par Karamja in Satthia upazila early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Sobhan, 40, son of Abdur Rashid of Karamja Sardarpara village.
Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 2:30 pm, said Sheikh Rafiqul Islam, superintendent of Pabna Police.
Sensing the presence of police, the criminals opened fire on the law enforcers, forcing them to fire back in self-defense.
Sobhan was caught in the line of fire and sustained bullet injury while the others managed to flee the scene.
Later, he was taken to Bera Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared him dead.
Two policemen were injured during the gunfight.
Sobhan was wanted in eleven criminal cases, said police.
One shutter gun, one cartridge, one sharp weapon, two mobile phone sets and a small amount of hemp and heroin were recovered from the possession of Sobhan, he said.

‘Criminal’ killed in Gazipur ‘gunfight’
A suspected criminal was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Habibpur in Gazipur's Kaliakoir upazila early Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Hanif, 30, son of Kanchan Shikdar of Shaheb Rampur of Kalkini upazila of Madaripur district.
Police conducted a drive in the area around 3am, said Sub-inspector Mufti Mahmud, of Kaliakoir Police Station.
Criminals opened fire on police, triggering a skirmish.
At one stage, Hanif was caught in the line of fire and sustained bullet injuries while the others managed to flee the scene.
Later, he was taken to Kaliakoir Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared him dead.
Hanif used to live at his in-law’s house in Kaliakoir and was wanted in 10 criminal cases, said the SI.
Four policemen were injured during the gunfight.
A one shutter gun, one LG gun and three cartridges were recovered from the spot.
‘Pirate’ killed in Bhola ‘gunfight’
A suspected pirate was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Veduria Ferighat area in Bhola Sadar Upazila early Tuesday.
‘Drug trader’ killed in Jashore ‘gunfight’
A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Rajganj area of Manirampur upazila early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Rubel Hosne Shawn, 22, son of Bachchu Hawladar.
Sub-inspector Debasish Biswash of Manirampur Police Station said tipped off, members of Rab -6 conducted a drive in Rajganj area.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the drug traders opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back in self-defence, triggering the gunfight.
After the gunfight other drug traders managed to flee leaving Shawon bullet- wounded on the spot, the SI said.
The injured were taken to Manirampur Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, he added.
Rab seized a foreign pistol, one round of bullet and 63 bottles of Phensedyl cough syrup from the spot.
Three cases were filed against the deceased with Manirampur Police Station.
‘Murder accused’ killed in Gazipur ‘gunfight’
An accused in a murder case was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Madhumita Railgate area in Tongi on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Sufian, prime accused in a case filed over killing minor girl Chandni after rape.
Abdullah Al Mamun, commanding officer of Rab-1 Porabari camp, said the elite force members arrested one Niloy, friend of Sufian, from Madhumita Rail gate area on May 17 and after the confessional statement of Niloy, the elite force members conducted a drive to arrest Sufian on Thursday night .
When the Rab team went to the area, the criminals opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back that triggered the gunfight.
At one stage, Sufian was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while the others managed to flee the scene.
Rab sent the body to Shaheed Tajuddin Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy.
One firearm and a bullet were recovered from the spot.
On May 16, police recovered the body of Chandni from the Madhumita Railgate area in Tongi.
