2 more top Hefazat leaders held
Two more top Hefazat-e-Islam leaders were arrested from Dhaka's Mohammadpur on Wednesday.
Mawlana Khurshid Alam Kasemi, nayeb-e-ameer of Khilafat Majlish and vice-president of Hefazat-e-Islam, was arrested in the evening.
Maulana Ataullah Amin, assistant general secretary of Hefazat's Dhaka city unit and joint secretary general of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlish, was held in the early hours of the day.

Also, Mufti Sharafat Hossain, joint general secretary of Khilafat Majlish, was arrested from Kafrul on the same day at 5pm.
Iftekharul Islam, additional deputy commissioner (media) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police confirmed the arrests.

On Tuesday, Mawlana Qurban Ali Kasemi, vice-president of Hefazat-e-Islam and joint secretary general of Khilafat Majlish, was also arrested from Dhaka's Basabo.
On April 18, Hefazat's Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haq was arrested from a Mohammadpur madrasa.

Many top Hefazat leaders have been arrested recently following vandalism and arson carried out by the organisation's supporters across the country against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bangladesh visit last month.
Other arrested leaders include Hefazat's Dhaka city unit President Junaid Al-Habib, Vice-President Maulana Jubair Ahmed; Assistant General Secretary Jalaluddin Ahmed, Assistant Publicity Secretary Sharifullah and Organising Secretary Azizul Haque Islamabadi.
Hefazat leader Qurban Ali Kasemi arrested in Dhaka
Mawlana Qurban Ali Kasemi, Vice-President of Hefazat-e-Islam and Joint Secretary General of Khilafat Majlish, was arrested from Dhaka's Basabo area on Tuesday.
Members of Detective Branch (DB) arrested the Islamist leaders at 5:30pm, said Iftekharul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Earlier on April 18, Hefazat's Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haq was arrested from a madrasah in Mohammadpur area.
More arrests of Hefazat’s senior leaders were made in recent time after Hefazat supporters' acts of violence at different parts of the country protesting against the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi marking the celebration of golden jubilee of the country’s independence last month.

Other arrested leaders include Hefazat’s Dhaka city unit president Junaid Al-Habib, assistant general secretary Jalaluddin Ahmed, its Dhaka City unit vice-president Maulana Jubair Ahmed, Assistant Publicity Secretary Sharifullah and organising secretary Azizul Haque Islamabadi.
Another Hefazat leader detained
Maulana Jubair Ahmed, vice-president of Hefazat-e-Islam's Dhaka city unit has been detained from his residence in the capital today.
Iftekhairul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Media & PR Division) confirmed the news to UNB.
He said the arrest was made at around 5pm based on an anonymous tip.

Maulana Jubair was arrested on charges of his involvement in the Shapla Chattar violence on May 5, 2013.
Police sources added that he is also accused in multiple cases for his alleged involvement with the recent violence in protest of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit.
Police have now arrested Hefazat central organising secretary Azizul Haque Islamabadi, assistant secretary general Sakhawat Hossein Raji, central committee assistant secretary general Manjurul Islam and assistant-publicity secretary Mufti Sharifullah in cases related to Shapla Chattar violence on May 5, 2013 - although few doubt the drive against the organisation's leadership stems from the opposition they displayed against the Indian prime minister.

The courts have also granted law enforcers several days to interrogate them in remand.
The most high profile arrest so far has been the one of Islamabadi. He was arrested from Chittagong on Sunday. The court granted 7 days' remand for him.
Another top Hefazat leader arrested
Hefazat-e-Islam’s Assistant Publicity Secretary Sharifullah was arrested in Dhaka on Tuesday night.
He was accused in a case filed under the Special Powers Act in 2013, said Azhar Mukul, additional deputy commissioner of Detective Branch (Wari division) of the DMP.

On Sunday, Hefazat’s Organising Secretary Azizul Haque Islamabadi was arrested in Chittagong.
The court has put him on a seven-day remand.
Sonargaon Hefazat president, 3 others held from Dhaka
Local unit president of Hefazat-e-Islam and three other leaders were arrested from Dhaka’s Jurain in a case filed over vandalism at the Royal Resort in Sonargaon on April 3.
The arrestees were identified as Hefazat president of Sonargaon unit Mawlana Mohiuddin Khan, General Secretary of the unit Mawlana Shahjahan Shibli, Vice-President Mawlana Moazzem Hossain and the key accused Mawlana Iqbal Hossain, President of Khelafat Majlish.

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-11 Captain Lieutenant Colonel Khandakar Saiful Alam confirmed the matter in a press release.
On April 3, supporters of Hefazat Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque went on a rampage in Narayanganj and vandalised the Royal Resort, where he was kept in police custody after locals found him with a woman, who the leader claimed to be his 2nd wife.
Mahanagar Hefazat Secretary Ferdausur Rahman on April 3 said Mamunul went to the resort with his second wife where the local Chhatra League and Jubo League leaders confined and harassed him before calling in the police.

Later, in the evening, madrasa teachers and students gathered in front of the resort and started chanting slogans demanding the release of Mamunul. At one point they tore down the main gate of the resort and ran riot after entering the property.
As the situation was getting out of control, police released Mamunul to the protesters. Yet they continued the vandalism at the resort until the law enforcement let Mamunul's claimed wife go too.
Hefazat leader Mamunul’s ‘2nd wife’ goes missing; GD filed
A general diary has been lodged with Paltan Police Station over the reported missing of the ‘second wife’ of Hefazat-e-Islam’s Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque.
Abdur Rahman, son of Mamunul’s ‘2nd wife’ Jharna, lodged the GD with Paltan Police Station on Saturday night, said officer-in-charge of the police station AB Siddique.
According to the GD, Abdur went to his mother’s Dhanmondi house on Saturday and did not find her.

When he inquired about his mother, someone told him that she went out of the house on April 3 and since then she did not return home.
However, he found three diaries of his mother and he deposited those to the police station.
Hefazat-e-Islam’s Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque, who has been the loudest voice in the organisation in a number of recent controversies, was detained with a woman he claims as his second wife from a resort in Sonargaon on April 3.

Mahanagar Hefazat’s secretary said Mamunul went to the resort with his second wife where the locals confined and harassed him, before calling in the police.
The woman detained with him was his second wife as claimed by Mamunul Haque.

Journalist assaulted, house ransacked ‘for not apologising to Mamunul’
A local journalist has been assaulted by some Hefazat e Islam supporters ‘for not apologising’ to Hefazat-e-Islam leader Mamunul Haque.
Victim Habibur Rahman works as Sonargaon correspondent for a private television channel who covered the Saturday’s incident in Sonargaon.
Habibur was admitted for treatment at Sonargaon Upazila Health Complex.

On Saturday, Hefazat’s general joint secretary Mamunul Haque was confined by the locals to a resort room at Sonargaon with a woman he claimed to be his second wife.
Meanwhile, some local journalists shared Facebook lives from the scene interviewing Mamunul Hauque.
An accusation was raised by the Hefazat supporters that journalist Habibur harassed Mamunul.
As the accusation got viral in social media, Hefazat workers threatened to beat him.
On Monday Habibur was visiting his Vatir chor village home in Sonmandi union where local Hefazat men attacked him.
Habibur’s brother Mofajjol Hossain said Hefazat’s supporters attacked their house at night and dragged Habibur out of his home.
They asked Habibur to apologize to Mamunul Haque through a video on social media but he refused, said Mofajjol.
The recorded video shows Hefazat's men assaulting Habibur and asking him to apologize.
Later police came and rescued Habibur.

Sonargaon police station’s Officer-in-Charge Hafizur Rahman said Hafazat’s men attacked journalist Habibur and he filed a complaint in this connection on Tuesday.
The case will be taken after consulting with the higher authority, OC Hafizur said.
