'Hok Kolorob'-famed lyricist Rajib Ashraf no more
"Hok Kolorob"-famed lyricist and filmmaker Rajib Ashraf has passed away.
He breathed his last on Friday morning at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Rajib's elder brother Ashraful Aaam Babu, and friend and musician Sina Hasan confirmed the news of his demise to the media.

Rajib had been suffering from asthma for a while and was taken to the hospital after his condition deteriorated last night, said Sina.
Rajib's namaz-e-janaza will take place at Baitul Mukarram Mosque after Asr prayer on Friday. After that he will be laid to rest at Mirpur-11 Jannatul Mawa Graveyard, he said.
Celebrities and his close acquaintances have been sharing their grief and love for the revered lyricist on their social media handles after being informed about his untimely demise.
Regarded as one of the most talented and versatile lyricists in the modern era of Bangladeshi urban music, Rajib Ashraf garnered massive popularity for his collaborations with musician Arnob.

With "Hok Kolrob", the title track of Arnob’s second studio album, Rajib became popular among music lovers for his lyrics. The duo then worked on creating a handful of fan-favourite tracks, including "Prokrito Jol", "Naam Chilo Na", "Ghum", "Dhushor Megh", "Rod Boleche Hobe", "Prtoddhoni", "Ekta Meye", "Mon Kharaper Ekta Bikel," and also the song "Boka Chaad" for Redoan Rony’s film "Icecream".
He also penned lyrics for the telefilms made by cellular company Airtel, including popular songs such as "Jolkona Ure Jay", "Valobashi Tai Valobeshe Jai", and more, as well as jingles for companies including Banglalink, Mojo, Seven Up, and Banglalink.
A passionate creative in the commercial and documentary filmmaking industries, Rajib worked for several creative agencies and also made a film on the Bangladesh Games.

Rajib Ashraf has also acted in plays and telefilms, including Ashutosh Sujan's "Tiner Tolowar," Animesh Aich's "Holud," Nurul Alam Atique's "Mojider Television," and Amitabh Reza's "Ekta Phone Kora Jabe Please."
His last televised interview was broadcast on Maasranga Television as part of its "Ranga Shokal" talk show back in August this year.
Man, daughter dies as truck collides with motorcycle in Bagerhat
A man and his daughter died and his wife and son were injured after their motorcycle collided with a truck on the Bagerhat-Khulna highway in the Piljong area of Fakirhat upazila on Thursday night.

The deceased were Sohel Faraji (37) of Khontakata village of Sarankhola upazila and his daughter Nourin Akhter (5). Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Katakhali Highway Police Station, confirmed the matter on Friday.

The injured are Mimi Akhter (32) and her son, Nausheen Faraji (10).
The incident happened when Sohel and his family were going to Khulna from Sarankhola on the motorcycle around 9 pm on Thursday. All four were rescued and taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where on-duty doctors declared Sohel and Nourin dead, said the police official.

Mimi and Nausheen are under treatment, though their conditions are critical, he added.
Police seized the truck and arrested its driver, Shahjahan Sardar. The bodies were handed over to family members on Friday. Preparations are underway to file a case in this regard, he also said.
7-year old child drowns in Faridpur while collecting water lilies
A seven-year-old child drowned while collecting water lilies from a beel (waterbody) in Faridpur’s Saltha upazila on Wednesday noon.
The deceased was identified as Dipta Mandal, son of late Nitya Mandal at Aguldia village of Gotti union of the upazila. He was a student of class I of local Jaijhap Government Primary School.

Deceased's uncle Hridoy Mondal said, "Nephew Dipta came home from school. After lunch, he went to collect water lilies alone and drowned. Dipta's mother Rita Mandal found his sandal floating on the beel.”
He was taken to Saltha upazila health complex where doctors declared him dead.

Mother ‘hangs minor daughter, herself’ in Chattogram
A 33-year-old woman allegedly hanged herself and her three-year-old daughter with a rope from the celling before at a colony in Chattogram Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) in the city on Tuesday.
The deceased were Shahnaz Begum, wife of Shahjahan and their daughter Eva Akter , of Bank Colony area in Chattogram EPZ area.

Abdul Karim, officer-in-charge of EPZ Police Station, said being informed by local people police recovered the bodies of the mother and the daughter hanging in one rope from the ceiling of their house in the morning.
The bodies were sent to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital morgue.

Jubo League activist hacked to death in Mymensingh
A Jubo League activist was hacked to death allegedly by activists of rival group at Atani Bazar in Mymensingh's Muktagachha upazila headquarters on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Asaduzzaman Asad, son of Shamsul Haque of Tarati Purbapara village in the upazila and nephew of late Awami League leader Abdul Hamid Nayeb.

Kazi Alamgir Hossain, cousin of the deceased, said that he was an activist of a Jubo League faction led by Chairman Abdul Hai Akand.
According to police and locals, Asad, Nahid and some others were sitting together and having tea at a tea shop in the town's Atani Bazar.
Suddenly, a group of 15-20 youths surrounded them from all sides with axes, rods, hockey sticks and country-made weapons.
They beat up Asad on both legs and hands and hacked him, leaving him seriously injured.

Later, locals rescued him and admitted him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where he died at 1 am on Tuesday while undergoing treatment there.
Nahid was also admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Asad’s cousin Kazi Alamgir said that Asad was beaten by some unknown miscreants two months ago and a case was filed in this regard. He was killed in a planned manner by the accused in that case over previous enmity with rival group.

Muktagachha police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abdul Majid confirmed the incident and said no written complaint has been received yet.
The body has been sent for autopsy, said the OCadding that efforts are on to arrest the suspects.

An unidentified man was killed as an unknown vehicle knocked him down in Narayanganj’s Siddhirganj in the early hours of Tuesday.

Md Nur Mia, sub-inspector (SI) of Narayanganj Shimrail highway police outpost, said the accident occurred around 1:15am after the vehicle hit the man, aged about 45, near PTK filling station, leaving him critically injured.

Later, the injured was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 3:50am, he added.
The body has been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy, said the officer.
Father, son die inhaling toxic gas in septic tank in Barishal
A 70-year-old man and his 43-year-old son died after inhaling toxic gas in a septic tank at Udaykathi in Banaripara upazila of Barishal district on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Abul Kalam Hawladar and his son Quamrul Islam.

Quoting family members, Sub-inspector Osman Goni of Banaripara Police Station, said Abul Kalam built a new septic tank at his house. On Sunday, Quamrul was tasked to remove the water inside the septic tank.
While removing water through a bucket, the bucket fell inside the tank. Quamrul then went in the septic tank to get the bucket and fell unconscious.

Getting no response from Quamrul, Abul Kalam also went into the septic tank and fell unconscious.
Later, local people recovered their bodies and took them to Swarupkathi Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared them dead.
Youth’s body recovered from Karnaphuli River
The body of an unidentified youth was recovered from the Karnaphuli River in Chattogram on Saturday night.
The youth aged around 30 was wearing a T-shirt and a jean pant. Locals said they spotted the body stuck near a lighter vessel in the river around 11:30 on Saturday and informed river police.

On information, the body was recovered from the river and sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Sadarghat river police station’s Inspector Md Ekram Ullah in a media release on Sunday morning.

A CNG-run autorickshaw driver was killed as a speeding bus ran over his vehicle on Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram on Saturday morning.
The deceased was Mohammad Shahab Uddin, 35, son of Abdul Malek of Bashbaria union under the upazila.

Baro Awlia Highway Police Station’s Sub Inspector Deepak Kumar Singh said the accident happened in the morning as the Chattogram-bound bound bus collided with the three-wheeler when it was about to take the highway after refueling from a fuel station in the Bashbaria area, leaving him critically injured.
He was rushed to Upazila Health Complex where physicians declared him dead upon arrival, he said, adding that the body was handed over to the family without autopsy upon their request.

The bus driver and his helper managed to flee with the vehicle before their arrival on the spot, the police officer added.
Woman’s hanging body found in Khulna
A 22-year-old woman was found hanging at her residence at Ramnagar village in Rupsa upazila of Khulna district on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Shanta Begum, 22, wife of Sohag Talukdar of Ramnagar village.

Quoting locals, police said the woman might have killed herself following a family feud.
