Dhaka, Apr 24 (UNB)- Parliament on Wednesday unanimously adopted a somewhat expanded condolence motion at the start of its session, that included some ordinary citizens who fell victim to tragedy or atrocity, alongside the usual list of recently deceased former ministers, MPs, bureaucrats, eminent citizens and employees of the Parliament Secretariat.
Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury moved the condolence motion in the House at the beginning of the 2nd session of the current Parliament.
The individuals whose names were read out by the Speaker to condole their deaths were former minister and MP Sheikh Abdul Aziz, former MPs Abu Saleh Mohammad Sayeed Dulal, Monzur Ahmed, Tajul Islam Mohammad Faruq, Arzu Mand Banu, Rahima Akter, M Aktaruzzman, joint secretary of the Parliament Secretariat Moshtaq Ahmad and employee of the Parliament Secretariat Wali Ullah.
The Parliament also expressed shock at the death of Zayan Chowdhury, grandson of the chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health Ministry and Awami League Presidium member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, student of Islamia Senior Madrassa of Feni Nusrat Jahan Rafi and fire fighter Sohel Rana, who died in the Banani FR Tower fire incident while performing his duty.
The House also adopted a condolence motion at the death of former adviser to the caretaker government ASM Shahjahan, father of Housing and Public Works Minister and valiant freedom fighter M Abdul Khaleq Sheikh, wife of Dr Mozammel Hossain MP-Jahanara Begum, wife of Shamshul Huq Tuku MP- Principal Lutfunnesa, son of Hossain Shahid Suhrawardy- Rashed Suhrawardy, mother of M Shahiduzzaman Sarker MP- Rawshan Ara Begum, husband of former MP Dilara Begum- Advocate Mahbubul Huq, Polan Sarker, PIB DG and senior journalist Shah Alamgir, eminent poet Al Mahmud, eminent singer Shahnaj Rahmatullah and famous comedian Tele Samad.
Panel of chairmen nominated for parliament session
Dhaka, Apr 24 (UNB) - Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Wednesday nominated a five-member panel of chairmen for the 2nd session of the 11th parliament.
The panel members are Mustafizur Rahman, ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, HN Ashiqur Rahman, Fakhrul Imam and Aroma Dutta.
The Speaker announced their names at the beginning of the day’s business.
They will conduct the House proceedings in chronological order in the absence of the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker.
Earlier, the 2nd session of the current parliament began at 6:40pm.
JS goes into session Wednesday
Dhaka, Apr 23 (UNB) - The 11th parliament goes into its 2nd session on Wednesday, after a 42-day recess.
