Covid’s daily-death toll falls to 5 in Bangladesh
Covid-19 claimed five more lives and infected 289 more people in 24 hours till Monday morning.
Bangladesh last logged five Covid-related deaths on a single-day on February 24 this year.
The fresh cases were detected after testing 20.773 samples, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
With this, the daily-case positivity rate declined slightly to 1.39 per cent from Sunday’s 1.49 per cent.

With the fresh numbers, the Covid fatalities reached 27,828 while the caseload climbed to 1,567,981 in Bangladesh, according to the DGHS.
Dengue in Bangladesh: 189 more hospitalized
Another 189 new dengue patients were hospitalized across the country in 24 hours till Friday morning.
The number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease remained static at 59 as no fresh death was reported during the 24-hour period, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Among the new patients, 164 were undergoing treatment in hospitals in the capital while the remaining 25 cases were reported from outside the Dhaka division.
Some 1,048 patients diagnosed with dengue are receiving treatment in the country, the DGHS said.
Of them, 827 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the remaining 221 were listed from outside Dhaka.
Among the deceased, 54 died in Dhaka city alone, two each in Chattogram and Khulna divisions and one in Rajshahi.
Some 16,894 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue since January.
So far, 15,787 dengue patients have left hospitals after recovery, the DGHS added.

The highest number of dengue patients hospitalized in a single day so far this year was 343 patients on September 7.
In August, the country recorded the highest number of 7,698 dengue cases in the current year.
In July, 2,286 people were diagnosed with dengue and 12 died while in June 272 cases were recorded with no death.
Covid-19 claims 38 more lives, infects 1,907 in Bangladesh
Bangladesh logged 38 more Covid-19 deaths and 1,907 fresh cases in 24 hours till Friday morning.
The daily case positivity rate increased to 6.41 per cent on Friday, a slight rise from Thursday’s 5.98 per cent, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The new cases were detected after testing 30,169 samples during the period.
Meanwhile, the fatality rate remained static at 1.76 per cent, said the DGHS.
The fresh numbers pushed the country’s Covid death tally to 27,147 while the caseload mounted to 15,40,110.
The recovery rate rose to 97.20 per cent with the recovery of 2,919 more patients during the 24-hour period.

On Tuesday, the country recorded 35 deaths, the lowest in around three months.
However, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that the daily case positivity rate should remain at 5 per cent or below for 14 days before mass unlocking.
Dengue: 319 more hospitalized in 24 hrs, no fresh death
Although no death from dengue was reported in 24 hours till Sunday morning, 319 more people were hospitalised with the mosquito-borne disease, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Among the new patients, 244 were admitted to different hospitals in Dhaka while the remaining 75 cases were reported from outside the division, according to DGHS.

Some 1,260 patients diagnosed with dengue fever are receiving treatment in the country as of Sunday morning.
Of them, 1,079 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the remaining 181 were listed outside Dhaka.
This year’s total death toll from dengue stood unchanged at 54 for the last three days.
Among the deceased, 50 died in Dhaka city alone, two in Chattogram division, one in Khulna and one in Rajshahi.
Some 13,875 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue since January.
So far, 12,561 dengue patients have left hospitals after recovery, said the DGHS.
The number of dengue patients hospitalized in a single day was the highest with 343 patients on September 7.

In the month of August the country recorded the highest number of 7,698 dengue cases of the current year.
In July, 2,286 people were diagnosed with dengue and 12 died while in June 272 cases were recorded with no deaths.
Health authorities have been recording over 200 dengue cases per day since August 1.
198 more hospitalized with Dengue in 24 hrs: DGHS
Amid the rise in Dengue cases in the country, 198 new patients were admitted to different hospitals in 24 hours till Sunday morning.
Among the new patients, 189 were admitted to government and private hospitals in Dhaka while the remaining cases were reported from outside the division, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The country has been seeing over 200 Dengue patients per day for the last 14 days since August 1.
The dengue outbreak has become a cause of major concern as the country is battling the deadlier Delta variant of coronavirus with its limited medicare facilities for the last few months.
So far, 25 suspected dengue deaths were reported to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) but it is yet to confirm any death from dengue, said the DGHS.

Some 1,049 patients diagnosed with dengue are receiving treatment in the country as of Sunday morning, according to DGHS.
Most of the cases have been reported in the capital so far, said the health authorities.
Of them, 960 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the rest were listed outside Dhaka.

Some 6,100 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue since January, and 5,026 of them have been released after they recovered from the disease.

Fatalities almost fell to zero at one stage, before spiking again in 2018, leading to the horrific crisis the following year.
Covid Surge: Bangladesh sees 241 more deaths, 10,299 new cases
Covid-19 in Bangladesh continued its relentless havoc as the country saw 241 more deaths and 10,299 new cases in 24 hours till Sunday morning.
The fresh numbers took the country’s total fatality to 22,652 and the total caseload to 1,353,695, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The new cases were detected after testing 42,003 samples which lowered the country’s case positivity rate to 24.52% from Saturday’s 25.65%.
The country overwhelmed by the Delta variant Covid surge has been seeing over 200 deaths daily since July 25 while over 13,000 cases daily on average for a week.
However, the case fatality rate remained unchanged at 1.67% during the period, said the DGHS.
Besides, the recovery rate rose to 89.05% from 88.89 % with 16,627 new patients recovering from Covid-19 during this time.
Of the recent deaths, 105 people died in Dhaka alone, the highest ever in the division.
Deaths in Bangladesh’s capital on a single day crossed the grim landmark of 100 for the first time on Saturday with 101 deaths.

Besides, 59 people died in Chattogram division, 30 in Khulna, 12 each in Rajshahi and Barishal, 10 in Rangpur, seven in Sylhet and six died in Mymensingh.
Of them, 128 were men and 113 women.
As per their age breakup, one was below 10 years, one between 11-20, nine between 21-30, 17 between 31-40, 28 between 41-50, 54 between 51-60, 70 between 61-70, 49 between 71-80, nine between 81-90 and three were between 91-100 years of age.
Dengue surge in Bangladesh: 224 more hospitalized in 24 hrs
As many as 224 new patients were hospitalized in 24 hours till Sunday morning amid a growing concern over a spike in dengue cases.
Since August 1, the country has been seeing over 200 dengue cases every day adding worries to the already overburdened health sector with Covid-19 patients.

Of the new dengue cases, 211 were reported in Dhaka while the remaining 13 from outside the division, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
According to the (DGHS), 946 patients are currently receiving treatment at different hospitals across the country. Of them, 900 patients were reported to be admitted to hospitals in Dhaka and the rests in other divisions.
Some 4,543 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue since January and 3,587 of them have been released after they recovered.
So far, 10 suspected deaths caused by dengue were reported to the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) but none of them had been reviewed and confirmed yet, said the DGHS.

Dengue: 25 cases in 24 hours
Amid an alarming surge in Covid-19 cases, there is a growing concern over the dengue situation in the country too. Health authorities on Thursday reported 25 new dengue cases in 24 hours.
Some 412 dengue patients are currently undergoing treatment at different government and private hospitals in the country, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of them, 409 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital and eight others outside Dhaka.
So far, information about three suspected dengue deaths have been sent to the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control And Research (IEDCR), the DGHS said.
Some 1,385 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue since January, and 951 of them released after recovery.
Bangladesh is seeing a rise in dengue cases when the Covid situation is worsening in the country, with the rapid spread of the highly contagious Delta variant.
DGHS spokesman and line director, Prof Dr. Nazmul Islam, Sunday expressed his deep concern over dengue, in a regular heath bulletin on coronavirus.

The situation would continue to deteriorate if those responsible for mosquito control across the country do not try their best by all means, Dr Nazmul said.
"If someone has temperature, they should be tested for dengue as well as corona," he added.
"And in case of treatment, medicines must be taken on the advice of a registered doctor only. If necessary, one could take treatment by contacting the hotline number of DGHS."
A total of 1,193 cases and three confirmed dengue-related deaths were reported in 2020.

Bangladesh reports 70 more new dengue cases in 24 hrs
Authorities reported 70 more dengue cases in 24 hours until Monday morning amid a surge in the mosquito-borne disease.
Some 209 patients diagnosed with dengue are receiving treatment at different government and private hospitals across the country as of Monday morning, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of them, one patient is receiving treatment at a hospital outside Dhaka.
Some 796 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue since January and 587 of them have been released after recovery.
The recent spike in dengue cases has added to the worries as the country continues to grapple with the devastating second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
Mobile court drives will be conducted in the two city corporations of capital Dhaka soon in an effort to control any possible dengue outbreak, Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Md Tajul Islam told UNB.

“Legal action will be taken against those if anyone is found responsible for breeding Aedes mosquitoes and breaching government directives through fine and other punishment, no matter whether the establishments are owned by the government or not. You’ve no right to harm the lives and property of people,” Tajul warned.

Alarming Covid surge in Bangladesh, 60 more die
Bangladesh recorded 60 Covid-related deaths and 3,956 new cases in 24 hours till Wednesday morning, showing an alarming sign of deterioration in the pandemic situation.
With the new figures, the death toll jumped to 13,282 while the death rate stood at 1.59 percent, said a handout of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Bangladesh’s fight to tackle the second wave of coronavirus has become tougher after the detection of the Delta variant of the virus in different parts of the country.
The higher infection rate in frontier districts and limited capacities in district hospitals have become a challenge amid the worsening situation.
The total caseload reached 8,37,247 with the new cases while the daily infection rate climbed to 16.62% in the 24-hour period.
However, the overall positivity rate stood at 13.41%.The daily positivity rate was 14.27% on Tuesday and 14.80% on Monday.
Among the deceased, 36 were men and 24 women.
Of them, three were between 11-20 years of age, one was between 21-30, seven between 31-40, 10 between 41-50, 16 between 51-60 and 23 were above 60 years’ old, according to the handout.
Besides, eight of them were from Dhaka division, another eight from Chattogram, 17 from Rajshahi, 14 from Khulna, six from Sylhet, four from Rangpur and three from Mymensingh divisions.
The numbers were found after testing a total of 23,807 samples across the country.

Besides, 2,679 Covid-19 patients recovered in the last 24 hours.
The total number of recoveries now stands at 7,73,752, while the recovery rate at 92.42%.
Lockdown extended
The government has extended the ongoing countrywide lockdown till 15 July as the Covid-19 situation continues to worsen in the country.
However, all government, semi-government, autonomous private offices, banks and financial institutions will remain open maintaining health protocols.
Biotech vaccine to get go-ahead
The National Research Ethics Committee of Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC) on Wednesday decided to approve Globe Biotech's Covid-19 vaccine, Bangavax, for human trials.
Globe Biotech will get the final nod on conducting clinical trials on humans only after meeting some conditions set by the BMRC, its director Prof Dr Ruhul Amin said this after a virtual meeting.

Bangladesh to set up international vaccine institute
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said the government is going to set up an international vaccine institute to produce vaccines, including the Covid-19 ones, in Bangladesh.
She said the government will sign an agreement with South Korea to set up the vaccine institute and the issues relating to ratification, accession and approval of the agreement by the Cabinet are under process.
The Prime Minister said the government has taken an initiative to produce Covid-19 vaccines in the country alongside collection from foreign sources to check the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
Hasina said government-to-government (G2G) negotiations are underway with the countries that have developed vaccines for transferring technology to this end.
14 die in Khulna, 17 in Rajshahi
Khulna continues to be one of the hardest hit frontier districts as 14 more people died of coronavirus in the district, according to the DGHS handout.
Besides, 139 patients are currently undergoing treatment at Khulna Corona Dedicated Hospital, said Dr Suhash Ranjan Haldar, the nodal person for the corona unit.
Of them, 70 people are receiving treatment in the red zone of the hospital, 21 in the yellow zone, 20 in ICU (intensive care unit), and 28 in HDU (high deficiency unit), said Dr Suhash.

In Rajshahi, 17 more died of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, the highest in the country during the period.
Meanwhile , director of Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) Brigadier General Shamim Yeazdani on Wednesday told UNB that as many as 48 people have been admitted to the corona unit of the hospital during the time.
Currently, some 344 people are undergoing treatment at the hospital against its capacity of 305 beds in the corona unit.
To deal with the pressure of Covid patients, the hospital authorities have added 34 beds, including two ICU beds, to the hospital's existing capacity, he said.
Besides, a letter has been sent to the Department of Health Services to send 15 more physicians to the hospital. Some 15 doctors have joined the hospital in the past week.
Test at home
The district administration of Bagerhat has introduced mobile Covid testing booths for collecting swab samples at the doorsteps of people.
Sheikh Sarhan Naser Tonmoy, Bagerhat-2 MP, took the initiative, following a sudden surge in Covid-19 cases in the district.
