Tangail female UP member accused embezzling VGD rice
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday filed a case against a female union parishad member, accusing her of misappropriating rice of the government’s VGD programme in Tangail.
ACC Deputy Assistant Director Raju Md Sarwar Hossain filed the case against Fazila, a reserved female member of Kalia union parishad of Sakhipur upazila with ACC’s Tangail integrated district office, said ACC spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya.
According to the case statement, the accused misappropriated 240 kilograms of rice meant for the Vulnerable Group Development (VGD) programme.
The case were filed under the Penal Code 1860 and the Prevention of Corruption Act 1947.

ACC seeks income tax details of MP Shahid, family

ACC spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said deputy director of ACC Mohammad Salauddin sought the documents from NBR in connection with the MP’s alleged involvement in money laundering and accumulating illegal wealth.
Besides, it also served a notice to the Election Commission to get the electoral affidavit of MP Shahid and his wife Selina Islam.
“The ACC investigation against MP Shahid and his family is going on and the organisation will issue letters to different organisations seeking information about the MP which is a routine work. As far as I know, restriction has been imposed on MP Shahid's family over going outside the country,” the ACC official said.
