MoU signed with Harvard Kennedy School to develop public admin in Bangladesh
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Governance Innovation Unit (GIU) of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in Bangladesh and Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation at the Harvard Kennedy School (HKS) in the USA.
The document was inked with a view to further developing and strengthening capacities of public administration in Bangladesh, said a press release on Thursday.

PM’s Principal Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus and Professor Douglas W Elmendorf, on behalf of Bangladesh government and the Ash Center respectively, signed the MoU at the Harvard Kennedy School, Cambridge on Wednesday.
During the signing ceremony, Dr Kaikaus hoped that the collaboration with the Ash Center would play a significant role in creating efficient human resources in the Public Service domain of Bangladesh, which is a critically important parameter in shaping the country into 'Shonar Bangla’ (Golden Bengal) as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
He stressed the need for intensifying collaboration between Bangladesh and the USA as the two countries are now celebrating the 50 years of bilateral diplomatic relations.
The principal secretary expected that the engagements between the Government of Bangladesh and Harvard Kennedy School would be further broadened and deepened in the time to come, especially in the fields of education, research and innovation.
Prof Douglas W Elmendorf described the signing of the document as a privilege for the Center to be partnering with the development trajectory of Bangladesh.
He said it is important to work closely with the Government of Bangladesh in implementing the MoU. He commended the socio-economic achievements Bangladesh has scripted in the recent past, the country’s proactive and pragmatic policies and strategies as well as visionary leadership for this impressive success.

With signing of the MoU, a new chapter of collaboration has been opened between the two sides in human resource development, with special emphasis on curriculum design and review of public administration; teaching and training of policymakers as well as exploring joint research opportunities.
Finance senior secretary Abdur Rouf Talukder, Public Administration senior secretary K M Ali Azam and Consul General of the Consulate General of Bangladesh in New York Dr Mohammad Monirul Islam, GIU Director Dr Shamima Nasrin, were, among others, present.
Bangladesh, South Korea ink MoU on cooperation for peaceful nuclear energy use
The Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) and Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the collaboration in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
The signing ceremony was held at the BAEC building in Dhaka on Wednesday. Dr Park Won Seok, President of KAERI, Dr Md. Azizul Haque, Chairman of BAEC, Lee Jang-keun, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Bangladesh and other officers of BAEC and KAERI were present.

According to the MOU, KAERI and BAEC will strengthen cooperation in various aspects of peaceful utilization of atomic energy, including development, utilization and upgrade of research reactor, production and application of radioisotope, development of radiation technology, neutron science and management of nuclear/radioactive waste.
Korea expects that the signing of the MOU will provide important momentum to take the existing collaboration between the two agencies to a new height.
Mentioning that KAERI has established a solid infrastructure as well as operation know-how of research reactors through the development of HANARO of Korea, JRTR of Jordan, OYSTER of the Netherlands during the past 50 years, Dr Park Won Seok expressed his confidence in cultivating and strengthening trustful partnership in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
Bangladesh, Denmark sign document to strengthen partnership on green transition
Bangladesh and Denmark on Monday signed a document on sustainable and green framework engagement to strengthen the partnership on climate and green transition between the two countries.
Foreign Minister A K Abdul Momen and Danish Minister for Development Cooperation Flemming Moller Mortensen signed the document in presence of visiting crown princess Mary Elizabeth of Denmark at a city hotel.
After the signing ceremony, a meeting was held between the two foreign ministers at the same venue where they discussed the issues of mutual interest.
Celebrating the 50 years of diplomatic ties, the ministers have pledged to take the Bangladesh-Denmark relations to a new level.
The two countries wished to partner towards attaining a sustainable and greener future globally.
The focus will be on climate change adaptation and mitigation, environmental damage and loss of biodiversity, in the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement on climate change, according to Danish Embassy in Dhaka.
Bangladesh and Denmark share a joint commitment in tackling global challenges such as climate change and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Centre for Genocide Studies inks tripartite MoU with Taylor's University, Bangladesh High Commission, Kuala Lumpur
Centre for Genocide Studies, University of Dhaka has signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding with Taylor's University, Malaysia and Bangladesh High Commission, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The virtual MoU signing ceremony was held on Monday as a part of the Golden Jubilee of the diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and Malaysia.
The goal behind this is to strengthen, enrich and put an official stamp on an ongoing partnership between these two countries.
UNDP to work with BRAC for accelerating pace of poverty reduction
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and BRAC have partnered and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance the effectiveness of poverty eradication and make these efforts more impactful to ensure inclusive growth for Bangladesh.Sudipto Mukerjee, Resident Representative, UNDP Bangladesh, and Asif Saleh, Executive Director, BRAC, signed the MoU on Sunday on behalf of their respective organizations at UNDP office in the city.Under this partnership, both organizations will work together to enhance the effectiveness of the poverty eradication effort for fostering inclusive growth in Bangladesh.Evidence-based policies and programmes will be designed, and a platform will be created to further strengthen the social protection systems in Bangladesh to make sure no one is left behind, according to UNDP.

Foreign Service Academies of Bangladesh, Mexico sign MoU
The Foreign Service Academy of Bangladesh and the Matias Romero Institute of Mexico have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on bilateral diplomatic cooperation at the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On behalf of the Matias Romero Institute, Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Carmen Moeeno Toscano and on behalf of Bangladesh Foreign Service Academy Ambassador of Bangladesh to Mexico Abida Islam signed the MoU on Thursday.
Counsellor of Bangladesh embassy Shahanaj Ranu along with the local officials of the embassy was present during the ceremony.
MoU signed to network non-government Australian stakeholders
Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra and Cross Sector Development Partnerships Initiative (XSPI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to complement the existing Australian government development assistance.
The purpose of the recently signed MoU is to identify potential project opportunities, ventures, and areas of collaboration of mutual interests and network with stakeholders through a process of non-binding consultation, said the High Commission on Wednesday.

Initially four priority sectors - ready-made garments, infrastructure, energy and power, health and private capital investment have been identified.
At the workshop held following the signing ceremony, the parties agreed to commence collaboration on the four priority sectors above with initial health sector focus on dengue fever.
In addition, a dialogue has commenced on the investment and financial services conference to be held this year.
'Bangabandhu Suraksha Bima’ introduced to facilitate differently abled: Speakers
Speakers in a deal signing ceremony for insurance coverage of ‘differently abled’ people on Sunday said they have rights to better living and normal life if opportunity is created to facilitate them.
The 'Bangabandhu Suraksha Bima’ is introduced in order to facilitate differently abled people for tackling health and life risk.
The speakers came up with remarks while addressing at memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between state-owned Sadharan Bima Corporation (SBC) and Neuro-Developmental Disabilities (NDD) to start
'Bangabandhu Suraksha Bima’, held in the office of Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) in the capital on Sunday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the insurance policy on March 1, 2022 on the occasion of National Insurance Day.
The insurance premium will be Tk 600 with this premium, people with disabilities will get health insurance coverage up to taka one lakh.
Sheikh Mohammad Salim Ullah, Secretary, Financial Institutions Division (FID), connected in the function virtually as the chief guest.

Mahfuza Akhter, Secretary, Ministry of Social Welfare, president Bangladesh Insurance Association (BIA) joined the function as special guests.
Dr. Mosharraf Hossen, Chairman of IDRA presided over the function while top executives of different insurance companies and officials of IDRA, SBC and NDD, among others, were present.
FID secretary Salim Ullah said everyone should try to take them forward, without pushing them away.
“The Ministry of Social Welfare is working to take these backward people forward. At present the government is working for economic development as well as social development, this insurance scheme is an example of that,” he said.
Thanks to those who are working to bring all these backward people forward. This is the success of the government. And this success must be spread in the whole country, he said.

The government took the initiative in July 2019 to bring people with autism and neuro-developmental disabilities under insurance. The initiative was taken to implement the insurance as a pilot project.
The Ministry of Social Welfare, FID, IDRA and SBC are responsible for implementation of the scheme.
Initially, the insurance will be introduced in the districts around Dhaka and in some areas of Sylhet.
A senior SBC official told UNB that NDD health insurance will be launched on a trial basis for one year initially.
The SBC will manage all the activities related to the issue of this insurance policy. To meet the claims of such insurance SBC will send directly to the insured as its own bank after verifying the required documents.
Under NDD Health Insurance, the same premium rate will be used for all insurance customers in the initial stage of 3 to 25 years.
According to the provisions of the Neuro-Developmental Disability Protection Trust Act 2013, people with autism, Down syndrome, intellectual disability and cerebral palsy will be given the same type of insurance benefits.
Greece to take 4,000 Bangladeshi workers every year: MoU
Greece is keen to take 4000 workers from Bangladesh every year, said Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry on Wednesday.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Bangladesh and Greece in this regard at Prabashi Kalyan Bhaban on Wednesday noon.
Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmed and Greek Minister for Migration and Asylum, Panagiotis Mitarachi signed the MoU on behalf of their governments.
According to the MoU, Greece will import Bangladeshi workers and will consider legalising the stay of Bangladeshis working there illegally.

Under the MoU, 4000 Bangladeshi workers will get a chance to go to Greece every year and the government of Greece will provide a temporary work permit for five years.
They will take seasonal workers under agriculture sector now and more will be taken gradually in other sectors after discussion between the two countries.
All the Bangladeshi workers, who will get work permit, have to return to Bangladesh after expire of five-year permit.
“This is the first ever MoU with any European country and through it Bangladeshi workers will work in Greece legally,” said the Minister.
Bangladesh, S Korea ink MoU on scientific, technological cooperation
The Ministry of Science and Technology, Bangladesh and the Ministry of Science and ICT, South Korea have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries.
South Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh Lee Jang-keun, during a recent meeting with Science and Technology Minister Yeafesh Osman handed over the MoU cross-signed by his Korean counterpart, Minister Lim Heysook.
Upon agreement on the text, the MoU signed by Minister Yeafesh was sent to Korea in November last year through a diplomatic channel, said the South Korean Embassy in Dhaka on Sunday.
Due to the pandemic situation, both sides could not hold a face-to-face signing ceremony, it said.

The MoU was concluded to strengthen the implementation of the agreement on Scientific and Technological Cooperation between the two governments signed in May 1995.
The MoU stipulates various areas and forms of cooperation including the establishment of a joint committee.
On the occasion of the signing, Ambassador Lee said the MoU has laid an important institutional foundation to further promote cooperation in the area of science and technology between the two countries, and expressed his commitment and willingness to this end.
