Members of Bangladesh Police have arrested two ‘robbers’ and covered robbed items at Beroil-Polita union of Magura Sadar Upazila on Saturday noon.
2 unsuccessful SSC examinees ‘commit suicide’ in Magura, Thakurgaon
Two female students allegedly committed suicide in Magura and Thakurgaon districts on Sunday after failing the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations.
In Magura, Airin, 16, a madrasa student and daughter of Jahid Hossain, resident of Parvatpara village of Mohammadpur upazila, reportedly hanged herself around 7pm after receiving her result.
Confirming the matter, Tarek Biswas, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station said that an unnatural death case was filed.
In Thakurgaon, Lima Akhter, 16, daughter of Jahirul Islam of Tinua village of Haripur upazila, committed suicide by hanging herself t at her room.
Victim’s father Jahirul Islam, said that after returning from field, he and her wife found Lima hanging at noon.
Later, she was taken to Haripur health complex where doctors declared her death, said Md Amiruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Haripur Police Station.
Madrasha girl ‘violated’ in Magura
A madrasha girl was violated allegedly by a youth at Chabinagar village in Sripur upazila.
A case was filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal on Sunday morning in this regard.
Later, police arrested suspected rapist Jewel Biswas, said Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sripur Police Station.
According to victim’s mother, Jewel, son of Al-Amin Biswas of the village, used to stalk her daughter.
On April 30, when the girl was going to her sister’s house, Jewel along with his associates picked up the girl to a house and violated her.
After returning home, the girl informed her mother about the incident.

Coronavirus: Two disinfecting tunnels installed in Magura
Magura Municipality authorities on Sunday installed two disinfecting tunnels at the two entrances to the town in an attempt to curb the coronavirus transmission.
Md Mahbubur Rahman, assistant engineer, Magura Municipality, said they have installed the tunnels for spraying water mixed with disinfectant on people riding two and three wheelers.
Members of Bangladesh Army helped in setting up the tunnels at Bhaina intersection and Dhaka road area with funds from municipality, he added.
He also said that detergent and a type of medicine are being used with water for disinfecting people entering the town.
Meanwhile, another disinfectant tunnel was set up in front of Magura 250-bed Hospital under the supervision of Saifuzzaman Shikhor MP.
Bangladesh has so far reported 91 deaths and 2,456 cases of coronavirus.
Magura administration allocates food for stray animals
The Magura sadar upazila administration has allocated food for stray animals who are going hungry because of the ongoing countrywide shutdown to tackle the outbreak of coronavirus.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abu Sufiyan said some 10 kgs of rice and four kgs of chicken will be allocated for the animals. They will be fed twice a day.
A volunteer group named ‘Tarun Decorator’ was tasked with cooking and providing food to the animals at four points of the district town.
The stray animals are facing starvation due to the closure of different restaurants and other institutions.
“As a result, the animals have become more ferocious. The local administration has taken the decision to provide food on humanitarian grounds,” said the UNO.
