Sirajganj ‘militant hideout’ busted, top JMB leader arrested
The Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) says it has arrested four militants, including one top regional leader of banned militant group Jamatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), from a house in Sirajganj’s Shahjadpur upazila.
Human trafficking: One accused held in Sylhet
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on Monday evening arrested one accused from Bishwanath upazila in Sylhet in a human trafficking case filed after the 37 Bangladeshis drowned in Mediterranean sea on May 9 in 2019.
The arrested man is Rafiqul Islam, son of late Chamak Ali of Kathalipara village in Bishwanath upazila.
Obain Rakhain, assistant superintendent of police and media officer of Rab-9, said they arrested Rafiqul from Bishwanath upazila in the evening and kept him in their custody.
Private vehicles to be allowed to cross district lines: Rab DG
Director General (DG) of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun on Friday said people can go to their village homes in their private vehicles on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
‘Drug trader’ killed in Jashore ‘gunfight’
A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Sarkhola village in Abhaynagar upazila on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Maruf Mollah, 26, son of Moslem Mollah of Nauapara municiplaity area.
Tipped off that some drug traders were sharing phensidyl bottles for selling in the area, a team of Rab-6 conducted a drive in the area, said commanding officer of Rab-6, Lieutenant Colonel Rawshan Kabir.
Sensing presence of the elite force members, the criminals opened fire on the Rab men, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.
At one stage, Maruf Molla was caught in the line of fire and sustained bullet injuries.
Later, he was taken to local hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Two Rab members were also injured in the incident.
One pistol, one hundred bottles of phensidyl were recovered from the spot.
DSE director Minhaz Mannan held under Digital Security Act
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Minhaz Mannan Emon, a director of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, from the city’s Banani area on Wednesday in a case filed under the Digital Security Act.
Sub-inspector Jamshedul Alam of Ramna Police Station, also the investigation officer of the case ,said the elite force members handed over Minhaz and another accused in the case Didaul Bhuiya to police in the evening.
Abu Bakar Siddique, Rab deputy assistant director, on April 5 filed a case against eleven people including Minhaz under the Digital Security Act with Ramna Police Station.
Didarul Bhuiya, a member of a ‘Rastra Chinta Songothon’, blogger Asif Mahmud, cartoonist Ahmed Kabir Kishore and Mostaque Ahmed are among the accused in the case. Six people including Minhaz , have so far been arrested.
According to the case statement, the arrestees attempted to destabilise the country by posting false and fake information against the government on a Facebook page ‘I am Bangladeshi’ .
Tasnim Khalil, a Sweden expatriate, is the admin of the facebook page which has 2.5 followers.
Police produced the arrestees before a court with a 7-day remand prayer on Thursday morning, said IO Jamshedul Alam.

Four held for raping teenager in Chapainawabganj
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested four people for repeatedly raping and blackmailing a teenager in Kathiapara area of Gomostapur upazila.
The arrestees were identified as Nishan Ali and his associates Jahurul Islam, Shamim Reza and Himel.
Company Commander of Rab-5 Chapainawabganj Camp ASP Azmal Hossain said Nishan had an affair with the victim and he recorded their intimate moments on phone.
Nishan and his accomplices had been repeatedly raping the girl and blackmailing her for the last seven months, he said.
The victim, unable to bear the torture, finally informed her family and they filed a complaint, the Rab officer said.
He said they seized mobile phone, video footage, pen drive and laptop from the accused.
A case was filed at Gomostapur Police Station over the matter.
