Man shot dead in Natore
A 32-year-old man was shot to death at Hazratpur in Sadar upazila of Natore district early today.
The deceased was identified as Farhad Khandaker.
Abul Kalam, in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said a group of miscreants swooped on Farhad when he was returning home around 1 am and opened fire on him, leaving him dead on the spot.
Finding no whereabouts of Farhad till 1 am, his wife Lutfunnahar went out in search of him and found his body, in a pool of blood, at Hazratpur Government Primary School premises.
Hearing her screams, locals rushed in and informed the police.

A team of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) from Rajshahi is on the way to the spot.
Local people claimed that the area is a safe haven for drug users.
Case filed against ward councillor in Natore over rape attempt
A case has been filed against a ward councillor as he allegedly tried to rape a woman in Natore's Naldanga municipality.
The accused is Abu Bakkar, councillor of Ward-1 of the municipality and president of the ward unit of Awami League.
On Sunday night, the woman’s husband, lodged a written complaint against Abu Bakkar at Naldanga Police Station.

Following the complaint, a case has been filed against the councillor under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, said Abul Kalam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Naldanga Police Station.
According to the case statement, on Sunday afternoon, councillor Abu Bakkar went to the house of the woman and tried to rape her in the absence of her husband.
Hearing her screams, when neighbours came, he fled the scene.
"Efforts are on to nab the accused councillor," added the OC.
Natore road crash leaves 3 dead
Three people were killed in a collision between a pickup van and a truck on Natore-Bogura Highway at Jolarbata in Singra upazila on Monday morning.
The deceased were identified as Rahim Ali, 35, and Bidyut Ali, 32, both were residents of Punduri village of Kalam union and Kachuke, 50, a resident of Najarpur village of the same union.
ANM Masud, officer-in-charge of Jhalmalia Highway Police Station, said that a truck hit a pickup van carrying saw mill workers at around 9:30 am, leaving van driver Rahim Ali dead on the spot and 4 others critically injured.
On information, the fire fighters went to the spot and rescued the injured people and took them to a local hospital from where workers Bidyut Ali and Kachuke were rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
They both died while undergoing treatment at the medical college hospital in the afternoon, the OC added.
2 killed, 4 hurt in Natore road crashes
Two people, including a woman, were killed and four others injured in two road crashes in Natore's Sadar upazila Friday, police said.
The deceased were identified as Parul Begum, 30, and Hanif, 40.
One accident occurred as a tanker hit a rickshaw van in the Chawk Tabaria area around 11am, ALM Masud, officer-in-charge (OC) of Jhalmalia Highway Police Station, said.

"Parul and other passengers of the van were rushed to Sadar hospital where she was declared dead upon arrival. The other injured are now undergoing treatment."
A speeding microbus ran Hanif over while he was crossing the road in front of Harishpur Police Lines, killing him on the spot, the OC said.
The bodies were sent to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsies, he added.
7 hackers held in Natore for swindling expatriate out of Tk1.2 lakh
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) claimed to have detained seven hackers early Friday for tricking an expatriate Bangladeshi into sending them Tk1.2 lakh.
The detainees Md Belal, Mehedi Hasan, Md Shimul, Md Mohan, Shah Poran, Md Robi and Md Rubel hacked into expatriate Wasim's account on audio/video calling and instant messaging app imo, Farhad Hossain, RAB-5 Natore camp company commander, said.

Based on a complaint filed by Wasim's brother Monirul Islam, Rab conducted a drive across Natore's Lalpur upazila and detained the hackers.
Rab also recovered Tk15,500 and electronic devices from the hackers, Farhad said.
"We've lodged a case against the hackers and handed them over to Lalpur Police Station," he added.

Awami League men vandalise BNP office in Natore
Ruling party Awami League’s activists allegedly vandalised the office of Natore’s Lalpur upazila unit BNP on Tuesday night.
Though no one sustained injuries in this attack, valuables of the office were damaged or lost.

Nazrul Islam, convener of Lalpur municipality unit BNP, alleged that the AL men led by local leader Mustafizur Rahman carried out the attack suddenly when he was holding a meeting with his party men inside the office around 9pm.
“Our party men saved themselves by fleeing the spot,” he said.
Monowaruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Lalpur police station, said they received no allegation from anybody in this connection.
Woman’s throat-slit body found in Natore
A 45-year-old woman was slaughtered allegedly by her husband in Baraigram upazila of Natore early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Beauty Khatun, wife of van puller Abdul Barek of the upazila.
Quoting family members, Abu Siddique, officer-in-charge (OC) of Baraigram police station, said Beauty’s husband Abdul Barek slaughtered her while she was asleep around 2am.
He might have killed her following family feud and fled immediately.
Efforts are on to arrest Barek, the OC added.
Man suffers bullet wounds in Natore clash over removing rain water
A man sustained bullet injuries in a clash between two groups of villagers over draining rain water in Lalpur upazila of Natore district on Tuesday. The injured was identified as Rajab Sardar of Nagsosha village. Monowaruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Lalpur Police Station, said waterlogging problem has been created at the house of Jamir Uddin of Nagsosha village due to incessant rain for a couple of days. When he tried to make a drain over the land of one person Fazar Sardar to extract the rainwater, they got involved in a heated argument. At one stage, the supporters of both groups were involved in it, triggering a clash, leaving Ajmat Sardar injured. When both groups attacked each other, Sumon, son of Jamir Uddin, opened fire on them, leaving Rajab injured with bullets. On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The injured were first taken to the upazila health complex and then shifted to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital. Police also seized a bullet and shell of a bullet from the spot.
Natore college teacher's death: Husband sent to jail
A Natore court on Monday sent the husband of college teacher Khairun Nahar, who was found dead at her flat in Natore, to jail in a case filed over the death.
The accused is Mamun Hossain, a second year student Bachelor Degree of Arts (B.A. Pass Course) of Nawab Siraj-Ud-Dowla Government College.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Moslem Uddin passed the order after turning down his bail plea, said Investigation Officer (IO) AJ Mintu, sub-inspector of Natore Sadar police station.
Earlier in the day, Mamun was arrested under the Special Powers Act and handed over to the court police.
A case was filed at Natore Sadar police station on Sunday night, said the SI.
The college teacher Khairun Nahar, 42, who married Mamun last year, was found dead at her rented flat in Boladipara area of the district town on Sunday morning.

The deceased was an assistant professor of Philosophy department of Khubjipur Mozammel Haque Degree College in Gurudaspur upazila of the district.
Police detained Mamun immediately for interrogation in this connection.
Mamun claimed that Khairun committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan with her scarf. Later he brought down her body by setting fire to the scarf as he found nothing to cut it off, said Abul Kalam Azad, inspector (investigation) of Natore Sadar Police Station.
Besides, caretaker of the house Khalil told the police that Mamun left the house around 2:00am and returned after an hour.
Then in the morning he called the caretaker informing that his wife Khairun committed suicide.
Subsequently, the caretaker informed the matter to the house owner, putting Mamun under lock and key in the flat till police arrived .
Natore college teacher who married student found dead
The body of college teacher Khairun Nahar, 42, who married a 22-year-old student last year, was found dead at her rented flat in Boladipara area of the district town on Sunday morning, said police.
The deceased was an assistant professor of Philosophy department of Khubjipur Mozammel Haque Degree College in Gurudaspur upazila of the district.
Her husband Mamun Hossain , a second year student Bachelor Degree of Arts (B.A. Pass Course) of Nawab Siraj-Ud-Dowla Government College, was detained.

Though they got married on December 12 last year the matter came to light on July 31 this year. The couple faced huge cyber bullying on social platform Facebook over their marriage.
Abul Kalam Azad, inspector (investigation) of Natore Sadar Police Station, said they detained Mamun for interrogation in this connection.
Meanwhile, a team of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) inspected the scene and collected samples from the flat, said he.
Mamun claimed that Khairun committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan with her scruff. Later he brought down her body by setting fire on the scruff as he found nothing to cut it off, said the inspector.
Besides, caretaker of the house Khalil told the police that Mamun came out of the house around 2:00am and returned after an hour.
He also came out of the house in the early morning and called the caretaker informing that his wife Khairun committed suicide.
Subsequently, the caretaker informed the matter to the house owner putting Mamun under lock and key in the flat, said the police officer, adding that on information, they recovered the body from the flat.
