Former BCL leader hacked dead in Pabna
A former leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League was hacked to death by some miscreants in Handial Nikripara area of Chatmohor upazila on Sunday evening.
The deceased was identified as Habibur Rahman Habib, 21, son of Abdur Razzak of the area and former organising secretary of Handial union BCL unit. He was B.A first year student Chatmohor Government College.
A group of miscreants attacked Habib in front of a local school around 7:30pm and hacked him indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured, said Sajib Shahreen, assistant superintendent of Chatmohor circle police.
Later, he died on the way to hospital, said the ASP adding that there was an internal clash between two groups of local BCL.
Habib locked into an altercation with Rasel, general secretary of union BCL, over a cricket match in the afternoon, said Abdul Alim, president of union BCL unit.

Lightning strikes kill 4 in Pabna
Four people were killed and a minor child was injured in lightning strikes in different parts of the district on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Hashem, 37, son of Laba of Atgharia upazila, Jalil Ali Sardar, 50, son of Rawshan Ali of Sujanagar upazila, Shariful Isalm, 25, son of Yunus Ali of Chatmohor upazila and Maniruzzaman Moni, 19 of Ataikula upazila of the district.
Of the deceased, three were killed while returning to their respective houses from croplands while another died while flying kite in the field, said Nasir Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
Besides, a minor boy, identified as Hridoy, 7, was injured in the incident and now undergoing treatment at Atgharia upazila Health Complex.

2 die after ‘drinking bootleg liquor’ in Pabna
Two young men died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on Sunday night after reportedly drinking locally distilled alcohol in Ishwardi upazila on Saturday.
Wahedur Rahman Sajal, 32, son of former municipal mayor Mukhlesur Rahman Bablu and Raju, 32, son of late Samu, died around 9pm at RMCH, said Bahauddin Faruki, officer-in-charge of Ishwardi Police Station.
According to local sources, Sajal and Raju bought alcohol from one Shimul on Saturday night.
They fell sick after drinking it. Later, they were taken to Ishwardi Health Complex.
As their condition deteriorated, they were taken to RMCH, where they died.
The OC said they heard about the death but added that no complaint has been filed yet.
