BPL 2022: Imrul, Liton guide Victorians to back on winning-streak
Riding on a stunning 81 off 62 not out by Imrul Kayes, and 53 off 37 by Liton Das, Comilla Victorians beat the Chattogram Challengers by a big margin of nine wickets under the DL Method on Thursday in Mirpur and backed to the winning-streak after losing the previous match to Minister Group Dhaka.
It was the fourth win of the Victorians in the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in five matches they have played so far. Before this match, the Victorians played four matches with only a defeat— in the previous match.
In the rain-hit match, which was reduced to 18-over aside, Comilla won the toss and sent Chattogram bat first who posted 138 for eight in 18 overs with the highest 57 by Will Jacks and 27 and 26 by Afif Hossain and Shamim Hossain respectively.
The rain hit the game during the 13th over of Chattogram, and the game was stopped for 64 minutes.

For the Victorians, Mustafizur Rahman bagged five wickets conceding 27 runs in four overs— his best in this edition of BPL, and It was the best first five-for of this BPL as well.
In reply, the Victorians captain Imrul and wicketkeeper-batter Liton came up with a 138-run opening stand which left a little to do to seal the match. They needed to score 144 in 18 overs as per the DL Method, and they ended up on 148 for one in 16.3 overs.
Imrul hit six fours and five sixes in watchful innings of unbeaten 81 while Liton smashed four fours and three sixes in his maiden fifty of this BPL.
The Victorians now have secured eight points and jumped to the top place of the points table while Chattogram remained at the second-lowest place of the table with six points from three wins in seven matches. They now have little chance to stay alive in the race of the next phase of the event.
The Victorians will take on Dhaka in their next match on February 4 while Chattogram will also take on Dhaka on February 8 in Sylhet.
BPL 2022: Fletcher overshadows Mithun as Khulna register big win
Khulna Tigers beat Sylhet Sunriser by nine wickets in the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) on Thursday in Dhaka.
With this match, Khulna’s sixth in the event, the BPL resumed in Dhaka after an eight-match leg in Chattogram.
Khulna had started this year’s BPL with a win over Minister Group Dhaka, but since they have been going through a checkered time. They have two wins in the first three matches, but they lost two matches on the trot before Thursday’s win.
Mushfiqur Rahim-led Khulna won the toss and sent Sunrisers to bat first who posted 142 for five in 20 overs riding on the 51-ball 72 by Mohammad Mithun with six fours and four sixes.

Sunrisers captain Mosaddek Hossain also did well with the bat scoring 34 off 30.
However, the other batters of the Sunirers failed to reach even a double-digit score.
For Khulna, Khaled Ahmed bagged two wickets while Nabil Samad, Kamrul Islam Rabbi and Soumya Sarkar scalped a wicket each.
In reply, Andre Fletcher and Soumya Sarkar came up with a 99-run opening stand and made it easy for Khulna to complete the remaining task to register their biggest win of the season.
While Soumya failed for 43 off 31 deliveries, his highest in the season, Fletcher remained unbeaten on 71 off 47 balls with five fours and five sixes. Thisara Perera also remained unbeaten on 22 off 9 balls. The Sri Lankan allrounder hit three fours and one six.

With the fourth defeat in five matches, the Sunrisers are now at the bottom of the table. It would be tough for them to stay in the race if they suffer more defeats in the next two matches.
In their next match, the Sunrisers will take on Fortune Barishal on February 4 in Mirpur while Khulna will take on the Sunrisers again in their next match on February 7 in Sylhet.
BPL 2022 Phase 3 Preview: What You Need to Know
The Comilla Victorians and Sylhet Sunrisers will play the most matches for the BPL 8's third phase in Dhaka. The next phase starts on Thursday. Aside from that, each of the other teams in the competition will play at least one match during this crucial round. The Bangladesh Premier League 2022's second phase came to an end on Tuesday, (February 1). The next phase will commence on February 3 in Dhaka after only one day of respite. The third phase of BPL 2022 is the shortest. A total of four matches will be played in this phase from February 3 to 4. All of the matches will be held at the Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium, with two games per day.
Comilla Victorians and Sylhet Sunrisers will play the most two matches in the second phase. On the other hand, Khulna Tigers, Fortune Barishal, Chattogram Challengers, and Minister Dhaka will each play one match. The third phase will begin with a match between the Sylhet Sunrisers and the Khulna Tigers and end with a match between the Comilla Victorians and Minister Dhaka.

Fortune Barishal
The Barishal team is now in first place in the points standings with eight points from six games. They have four matches remaining in the league phase. Fortune Barishal will meet Sylhet Sunrisers in the third phase, with the goal of maintaining their position in the standings at the end of this phase. The Shakib-led team is steadily gaining momentum in the tournament, and they should easily qualify for the playoffs.
Comilla Victorians
Comilla Victorians lost to Minister Dhaka, their first loss of the competition on Tuesday (February 1). They will play Minister Dhaka again in their second match of phase 3, after facing Chattogram Challengers on Thursday. The Comilla Victorians are presently in second place in the points standings, and they will try to win all of their matches in this phase to reclaim first place.

Minister Dhaka
Minister Dhaka performed well in phase 2, winning both of their matches. Dhaka are presently in third place with six points. They will be trying to keep their winning streak going when they meet Comilla on February 4.
Chattogram Challengers
The removal of Mehidy Miraz as captain wreaked chaos in the Chattogram Challengers locker room. Chattogram had a chance to improve their position in the standings in phase 2. However, they plummeted to fourth place in the points table after losing three of their four matches in phase 2. They will be looking to make a comeback in their solitary phase 3 match against Comilla Victorians.

Khulna Tigers
Khulna Tigers are presently in fifth place in the BPL 8 point standings. They have collected four points in five games. With five more league matches to play, Khulna Tigers must win the majority of their remaining encounters in this round. Khulna will only face the Sylhet Sunrisers in phase 3.
Sylhet Sunrisers
Sylhet Sunrisers sit at the bottom of the standings with only two points. In the third phase, they will play two matches against Khulna Tigers and Fortune Barishal, respectively. Sylhet must win both games to remain in contention for the playoffs. Otherwise, they are in serious danger of missing out on a playoff berth.

As seen in the preview, Comilla Victorians may recapture the first spot if they win both of their phase 3 matches, while Sylhet Sunrisers are the team under the most pressure right now. Sylhet must win at least one match in phase 3 in order to stay alive in the competition. Regardless of the outcome of this phase, Fortune Barishal are certain to remain in the top three. Among the other teams, Minister Dhaka, Chattogram Challengers, and Khulna Tigers must win their respective BPL 2022 phase 3 matches to improve their positions in the points tables.
Moeen Ali in Dhaka to play BPL after 9 years
English all-rounder Moeen Ali arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday to play in the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for Comilla Victorians.
It will be Moeen’s second appearance in the premier league. He previously played in 2013 for the now-defunct Duronto Rajshahi.
The all-rounder has so far played a total of five BPL matches and batted in four innings to amass 46 runs. His BPL best score is 24 against Sylhet Royals, which is also now defunct, in Mirpur.

Moeen has played a total of 49 T20Is and 208 T20s so far. He has also played 34 matches in the Indian Premier League for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings.
Meanwhile, the Victorians have played four matches this season, winning three. They are currently at number two in the points table. In the next match, Comilla will take on the Chattogram Challengers in Mirpur on February 3.
BPL 2022: Barishal jump to top beating Chattogram
In the last match of the Chattogam leg of this year’s Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Fortune Barishal beat Chattogram Challengers by 14 runs on Tuesday and topped the table with eight points.
Shakib Al Hasan, the captain of Barishal, hit a stunning fifty, and Chris Gayle, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and Towhid Hridoy also did well with the bat to post a challenging total of 149 runs while batting first after winning the toss.
Despite losing Munim Shahriar early, Barishal’s innings never seemed to have lost track thanks to the firm show by the middle-order batters. They also suffered a batting collapse in the lower middle-order.

For Chattogram, young left-arm seamer Mrittunjoy Chowdhury scalped four wickets in two overs with a two-in-two. Along with him, Shoriful Islam also did well with the ball taking two wickets.
In reply, Chattogram lost opener Will Jacks in the first over. In the second-wicket stand, Afif Hossain and Shamim Hossain added 70 runs on the board. This pair was guiding the Challengers to a successful chase, but Shakib broke the stand removing Afif for 39.
The Challengers were unable to carry on the good run and eventually tumbled for 135 for all wickets in 19.4 overs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz scored 26 off 13 balls with three fours and one six, but his effort was not enough for the Challengers to avoid a defeat.

Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman bagged three for nine in four overs while Shakib also bagged three for 23 in four overs. Dwayne Bravo and Mehedi Hasan Rana took two wickets each.
Barishal will play Minister Group Dhaka on February 3 in Dhaka while Chattogram will take on Comilla Victorians on the same day.
BPL 2022: Barishal join early pacesetters on 6 pts
Despite some late blows by the Khulna Tigers batters, Fortune Barishal picked up their third win in the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) on Monday in Chattogram.
Khulna needed to score 146 to win the match, but they ended up on 139 and lost the match by six runs. With this win, Barishal secured a total of six points from three wins in five matches they’ve played so far.
Barishal won the toss in this match and opted to bat first— unlike the other matches when captains opted to bowl first after winning the tosses.

Despite losing three wickets in just 24 runs, Barishal posted 145 for all wickets in 18.5 overs. In the fourth wicket stand, Shakib Al Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto posted 79 runs on the board. Riding on this stand, Barishal managed to set a challenging total.
Shakib scored 41 while Shanto added 45 in the fourth wicket stand for Barishal.
Khaled Ahmed bagged three for Khulna Tigers while Kamrul Islam and Farhad Reza took two wickets each.
In reply, Yasir Ali and Mushfiuqr Rahim scored 57 not out and 33 respectively but their effort went in vain as the top-order failed to provide a good start.

Khulna needed 36 runs in the last two overs which came down to 15 in the last over, but Khulna batters failed to achieve that.
For Barishal, Dwayne Bravo took three wickets conceding 40 runs in four overs while Shakib took two wickets conceding only 10 runs in four overs. Shakib won the player of the match award for his allround show. Afghanistan’s Mujeeb Ur Rahman did not get any wicket, but he was excellent with the ball as he conceded only 13 runs in four overs.
Khulna now have four points from two wins in five matches they’ve played till the date.
In their next match, Khulna will take on Sylhet Sunrisers on February 3 while Barishal will lock the horns with Chattogram Challengers on February 1.
BPL 2022: Victorians continue on winning-streak
With three convincing wins in as many games the Comilla Victorians continued to dominate the ongoing season of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
In their latest match on Monday, the Victorians beat Chattogram Challengers by a big margin of 52 runs riding on wonderful batting shows by Liton Das, Faf du Plessis, and Cameron Delport, and disciplined bowling from Nahidul Islam and Mustafizur Rahman.
Before this match, Comilla won their first two matches against Sylhet Sunrisers and Fortune Barishal.

On Monday, Chattogram won the toss and sent Comilla to bat first who posted a challenging total of 183 for three wickets in 20 overs.
They lost Mahmudul Hasan Joy in the second over, but in the second wicket stand, Liton and Faf du Pless added 80 runs to lay down a solid foundation for them.
Liton fell for 47 in his first appearance in this year’s BPL, but Faf was firm at the other end of the wicket. Imrul Kayes failed to impress with the bat as the left-hander returned only with a run.
In the fourth wicket stand, Faf and Cameron posted 97 runs to set a tough target for Chattogram who had two wins in five matches they had played before this match.
For Chattogram, left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed scalped two wickets.

In reply, Chattogram never were able to pose a threat to the Victorians. They lost the opener, Kennar Lewis, in the first over only for four runs, and in the second over, they lost Afif Hossain as well. Inside 39 runs, they lost Sabbir Rahman.
Two of their first three wickets fell prey to Nahidul who ended up taking three wickets conceding 17 runs in four overs.
Opener Will Jacks was leading the Challengers with the bat, but his effort went in vain as they tumbled for 131 all out in 17.3 overs. Jacks ended up on 69 off 42 balls.
While Nahidul took three, Mustafizur bagged two wickets conceding 26 in three overs.
Victorians will take on Minister Group Dhaka on February 1 while the Challengers will play Fortune Barishal on the same day. Both the matches will take place in Chattogram.
BPL 2022: Competition among six teams gets heated up in Phase 2
Slower bowlers dominated the majority of games in the first phase in Dhaka, which was frustrating for the fans. Oppositely, batters had a hard time hitting the ball, especially during day matches. However, the batters have found their stride in the second phase. Two blazing centuries have already been seen in the Chattogram phase. Another important point is that the playoffs race has heated up. All of the teams in the tournament are vying for a spot in the playoffs. Current Points Table Scenario of BPL 2022
The match between Chattogram Challengers and Khulna Tigers kicked off the second phase of the BPL season 8. In the Chattogram phase, four of the eight matches have been played. With the exception of Comilla Victorians, all of the competing teams have already played a match. The Comilla team will play two matches against Minister Dhaka and Chattogram Challengers, respectively before the end of this phase.

Chattogram Challengers presently lead the points table with 6 points. They have played two games in Chattogram so far. Chattogram Challengers were defeated by Khulna Tigers by 6 wickets on Friday but bounced back against Sylhet Sunrisers on Saturday. They defeated Sylhet by 16 runs to seize first place in the points table.

Comilla Victorians
Comilla are yet to play a game in the Chattogram phase, but they are currently in second place on the points table with a perfect record.
Minister Dhaka
The Minister Dhaka team was under a lot of strain after losing three of its four phase one matches. They have exhibited real promise with a crushing 9-wicket victory against Sylhet Sunrisers in the second phase. Minister Dhaka are currently placed third with four points.
Khulna Tigers
The Khulna Tigers got off to a good start in the second phase, winning by six wickets against Chattogram Challengers. However, they were unable to chase down a decent total against Fortune Barishal in the following match, losing by 17 runs. The Khulna Tigers are presently in fourth place in the points table.

Fortune Barishal
The Shakib Al Hasan-led Barishal team has only played one game, which they won by 17 runs against the Khulna Tigers. Despite a solid win over Khulna, the Barishal team was unable to improve their points table position due to poor run rates. Fortune Barishal are presently in fifth place in the standings.
Sylhet Sunrisers
Sylhet is the only team in the competition that has only won one game thus far. Sylhet Sunrisers were defeated by Minister Dhaka and Chattogram Challengers in both of their phase 2 matches. With only two points, they are now at the bottom of the points table.

The First Centurion of BPL 2022
BPL 2022's first century came in the third match of phase 2. West Indian power hitter, Lendl Simmons scored the first century in the Bangladesh Premier League this season. Sylhet Sunrisers scored a challenging 175/5 runs on board, thanks to Simmons' 116 off 65 balls knock. He hit five big sixes in his innings and reached his century in just 59 balls.

Tamim Iqbal’s Perfect Response to Lendl Simmons Century
Bangladesh's finest opener, Tamim Iqbal responded to Lendl Simmons' century with an unbeaten 111* off 64 balls match-winning effort. Tamim's innings featured four big sixes and he reached the three-figure mark in just 61 balls. It was Tamim Iqbal's fourth T20 century, the most by any Bangladeshi batter. Minister Dhaka defeated Sylhet Sunrisers by 9 wickets, thanks to a 173-run first-wicket partnership between Tamim and Shahzad.
Second-Fastest Half-Century in BPL’s History
English recruit for Chattogram Challengers, Will Jacks hit a stunning half-century against Sylhet Sunrisers, allowing his team to defend a total of over 200 runs. Will Jacks' fifty came in just 18 balls, making it the second-fastest fifty in BPL history. He joins Seekkuge Prasanna and Rahmanullah Gurbaz for the second-fastest half-century in BPL history. With only 16 balls, Pakistan's Ahmed Shehzad holds the record for the fastest fifty in the BPL.
First Hat-trick in BPL 2022
One of Bangladesh's most promising young pacers Mrittunjoy Chowdhury took a hat-trick for Chattogram Challengers against Sylhet Sunrisers. His hat-trick led Chattogram to a 16-run victory against Sylhet in the match. Mrittunjoy Chowdhury dismissed Anamul Haque, Mosaddek Hossain, and Ravi Bopara in three successive deliveries in the 18th over to become the first bowler to take a hat-trick this season.

Bottom Line
The performance of the batters in the Chattogram phase is quite encouraging for the success of BPL 2022. There have already been a number of high-scoring matches, including the tournament's first 200 plus total, which was made by Chattogram Challengers against Sylhet Sunrisers on Saturday (January 29). All of the teams are in strong contention for a playoffs spot. The points table scenario might change in the next four matches in phase 2. Therefore, the teams cannot afford to take any match lightly, and more closely-contested battles are expected in the coming days.
BPL 2022: Mrittunjoy’s hat-trick puts Chattogram on top
Left-arm pacer Mrittujnjoy Chowdhury recorded a hat-trick against Sylhet Sunrisers on his Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) debut Saturday to put Chattogram Challengers on the top of the table with three wins in five matches.
Chattogram Challengers beat Sylhet Sunrisers by 16 runs in this match at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
It was the sixth hat-trick in BPL, and third by a Bangladeshi bowler.
Sunrisers needed to chase down a target of 203 runs— the biggest in this edition of BPL— to beat Chattogram. But they failed to do so as they ended their chase with 186 for six wickets in 20 overs.
While chasing, Sunrisers lost their first wicket in nine runs when the centurion of the last match Lindle Simmions fell for nine of seven balls. In the second wicket, Anamul Haque Bijoy and Colin Ingram added 112 runs to set a good foundation.

But Mrittonjoy removed Anamul, Moasaddek Hossain and Ravi Bopara in three successive deliveries, and subsequently they failed to keep the scoreboard afloat.
Anamul fell for 78 off 47 with nine fours and three sixes— his best in this edition of BPL so far while Ingram posted 50 off 37 balls with five fours and two sixes.
Mrittunjoy ended up taking three wickets conceding 33 runs in four overs while Nasum Ahmed scalped two wickets.
Earlier, Sunrisers won the toss and sent Chattogram to bat first who scored 202— the highest team total in this BPL so far— riding on fifty of Will Jacks and 38 off 28 by Afif Hossain, 31 off 29 by Sabbir Rahman, and 41 off 21 balls by Benny Howell. Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who handed the captaincy to Naeem Islam before the match, posted 13 off four balls with two sixes.
For Sunrisers, Taskin Ahmed, Sohag Gazi, Mosaddek Hossain, Ravi Bopara, and Muktar Ali scalped one wicket each.
Chattogram will take on Comilla Victorians on January 31 while Sunrisers will play Khulna Tigers on February 3 in Dhaka.
BPL 2022: Barishal back on track beating Khulna
A tremendous bowling effort by left-arm pacer Mehedi Hasan Rana guided Fortune Barishal to a win against Khulna Tigers on Saturday in the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in Chattogram.
It was Barishal’s second win in the event in four matches. Before this match, they lost two consecutive matches against Minister Group Dhaka and Comilla Victorians.
Khulna Tigers won the toss and bowled first to restrict Barishal to 141 for nine in 20 overs with Chris Gayle scoring the highest 45 off 34 balls with six fours and two sixes. Towhid Hridoy was the second-highest scorer for them with 23 off 21 deliveries.
For Khulna, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Thisara Perera and Farhad Reza scalped two wickets each.

In reply, Khulna lost two wickets in just five runs. Soumya Sarkar failed to add anything on the board while the other opener Andre Fletcher scored 4. Both of their openers were dismissed by Afghan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Jake Lintott also bagged two wickets for them.
Khulna captain Mushfiqur Rahim scored 40 but his effort went in vain as the other batters failed to partner him well with the bat.
Mehedi Hasan came to bowl as the sixth bowler and bagged four wickets conceding 17 runs in three overs, which helped him to win the player of the match award.
It was the second defeat of Khulna in four matches they have played so far. These two teams will take on each other in their next match as well on January 31 at the same venue.
