Where is Brazil vs Croatia match?
Brazil and Croatia will face each other in the first match of the World Cup quarterfinals on Friday, December 9, at 6 pm local time and 9 pm Bangladesh time at Education City Stadium.
Brazil’s performance so far in the 2022 World Cup
Brazil had a great start in the World Cup 2022, except for an upset caused by Cameroon. However, they have shown excellency against South Korea in the round of 16 with a 4-1 victory. Vinicius Jr., Neymar, Richarlison, and Lucas Paqueta helped the team with one goal each. And with that smooth win, they have sailed to the quarterfinals, which will be played against Croatia.

So far, Brazil has lost only one game in this World Cup, and it was against Cameroon. In fact, it was Selecao’s first loss in 19 International games.
This will be Brazil’s 17th quarterfinal appearance in the World Cup tournament. However, Brazil’s recent quarterfinal outcomes are not satisfactory. They lost three of the last four competitions in 2006, 2010, and 2018 against France, Netherlands, and Belgium, respectively.
In other group stage matches, Brazil pulled victory over Serbia by 2-0 and Switzerland by 1-0. Richarlison and Casemiro scored in those matches.
While Brazil has a few injured players, fortunately, Neymar is back after missing the last two group-stage matches. And Danilo was also back from injury. However, Alex Relles and Gabriel Jesus will not appear in the rest of the World Cup as they suffered an injury in the last group stage match against Cameroon. Alex Sandro could potentially return after he missed the round of 16 game.
Brazil’s players to watch: Neymar, Richarlison, Vinicius Jr
Brazil’s players carrying yellow cards: Fred, Eder Militao, Bruno Guimaraes.

Croatia’s performance so far in the 2022 World Cup
Although Croatia was the 2018 World Cup runner-up, this season, their journey is not that smooth so far. They won only one group stage match, which was against Canada by a 4-1 goal. The other two matches were a draw. Also, their round of 16 matches against Japan was also a draw, but they pulled to victory by penalty.
However, captain Luka Modric and the Croatia team have been very consistent in this tournament. And Brazil may find it tough to beat them. In all their games in this World Cup, Croatia kept around 55% possession on average. So, if they can keep this with Brazil, they might get chances to keep pressure on Brazil.
Currently, Croatia is dealing with one injury issue. Josip Stanisic missed the last game against Japan due to a muscle injury, and he could miss the quarterfinals as well. Although Borna Sosa missed the game, too, he will be available against Brazil.
Croatia’s players to watch: Luka Modric, Ivan Perisic, Bruno Petković
Croatia’s players carrying yellow cards: Dejan Lovren, Luka Modric, Mateo Kovacic, Borna Barisic.

Can Brazil Win the FIFA World Cup for the 6th Time?
Brazil has been an international powerhouse in football for decades. The country has won the World Cup an astonishing five times, with the last victory attained in 2002. The Brazilian national team, known as 'The Selecao,' is now looking to make history by becoming the first nation to win the tournament six times. The team is determined to mission Hexa and bring the trophy back to Brazil. Brazil’s FIFA World Cup 2022 team has been reinforced by some of the world's best players and will be looking to reclaim their place atop the world of football.
Now the question is, can Brazil win the World Cup for the sixth time?
Brazil's World Cup 2022 performance so far
Brazil's group stage performance was not satisfactory for the fans as they lost the last group stage match against Cameroon. However, it was unexpected as the lineup contained the expensive and best young players of the team. But, whether it was a win or loss, that match for Brazil was about checking their bench strength.
With the last sixteen already confirmed, some players needed a rest as well. All in all, Tite has walked the path of change in the starting eleven. Nine changes from the previous match. 39-year-old Dani Alves led the field with the youngest attack in 6 decades.
So, apparently, Brazil was not bothered with that match, which we have understood in the round of 16 games against South Korea. The 4-1 victory over South Korea proved their excellency and showed that Brazil is one of the top contenders for the World Cup 2022. In their other two matches against Serbia and Switzerland, Brazil got the easy win.

With their massive success against South Korea, Brazilian footballers are sending a message to the world that they are serious about reclaiming their place in the global football landscape.
Brazil's road to final, will it be smooth?
The Seleçao Canarinho are only two matches away from the final. They will face Croatia in the quarter-finals. Overall, both teams faced each other four times, Brazil won 3 matches, and 1 match was drawn. The two countries have met twice in World Cup. This will be the third time. Selecao left the field with 100% victory in the previous two times. Although Brazil is ahead in terms of statistics and power, one incident after another has made this World Cup exciting.
Croatia defeated Japan in a tiebreaker in the other pre-quarterfinal on Monday. Japan went ahead by scoring first. Croatia leveled the score in the second half. As the result of the game was 1-1 at the scheduled time, the match went to extra time. There was no goal either. Finally, Croatia reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup after defeating Japan in a tiebreaker. Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic saved Japan's three penalties in the tiebreaker. So, it seems finding a gap in Livakovic's goalpost will be a bit difficult for Brazil.

However, Brazil has a world-class team this year, and Neymar is back from injury. This is the biggest strength for Brazil. But Brazil can do well without Neymar too. They have Richarlison, Casemiro and Vinícius Júnior.
So, Brazil has a great chance of winning the quarter-final. After that, they will face either Argentina or Netherlands in the semifinal. And considering the performance of these two teams in the Qatar World Cup, Brazil will be ahead too.
Which Brazilian players may shine in the next rounds?
While Brazil has a strong defense, the midfield and attacking are also incredible. However, goal scorers are the one who takes the team to the next round. And as per the performance, Richarlison, Casemiro, and Vinícius Júnior are at the peak of their career for the national team. And obviously, Neymar is there too.
Neymar
Injuries and Neymar are like two sides of a coin. The depth of their relationship is really evident on the World Cup stage. The Brazilian star striker left the field at the end of the match with an ankle injury during the match against Serbia and missed the group stage. Neymar is back in the team and scored his first goal at Qatar World Cup. He had a player rating of 8 in that match. Apparently, Neymar will be a performance booster for the team in the next matches.

Richarlison
He already scored three goals in this World Cup, with a double goal in the first match against Serbia. While Neymar was playing his regular game against Serbia, Richarlison stole the limelight with a pair of goals. Especially the crowd-pleasing aesthetic bicycling shot goal sticks like magic in the eyes of football lovers. His rating was 9 in that match.
Richarlison's goal against South Korea was also eye-soothing. While he was surrounded by the defenders, Richarlison danced the ball four times on his head. After that, he beat two defenders and scored. So, he will be a trump card for Brazil in upcoming matches.
Vinicius Junior
Vinicius Jr. has been shining under Zinedine Zidane in Real Madrid. But he couldn't score. Italy's legendary coach, Carlo Ancelotti, returned to Real Madrid's dugout and changed Vini's playing style. Now he has become one of the key players for Brazil at the Qatar World Cup. He was one of the top players against Serbia and Switzerland in the group stage. But missed the goal. He got a goal against South Korea. However, he also got several chances in that match. Vini's rating was 9 against South Korea.
Vini was in great form at Real Madrid. Played an outstanding role in winning La Liga Champions League. Then Brazil coach Tite talked to Carlo Ancelotti about Vinicius. How was he playing Vini? What was the strategy so that he gets the same Vini in the Brazil jersey. And it seems it worked out perfectly!

Final words
Brazil has won the World Cup five times, the most of any country. Still, the team that did not win the World Cup in 1982 is regarded as the best team in Brazil. However, experts think the 2022 World Cup team is almost equivalent to 1982's team, and they are proving it too. The whole team is in great form, and there are a bunch of energetic players available on the bench too. So, apparently, Brazil seems to be unstoppable and has a great possibility to complete their mission Hexa in FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Brazil wait on Neymar for South Korea match
Whether Neymar is in the lineup, on the bench or resting for a third consecutive game will depend on how he performs in Brazil’s last training session ahead of its round-of-16 match against South Korea on Monday at the World Cup.
The Brazil star missed two group-stage matches with a right ankle injury he received in the team’s opening win against Serbia. He was back training with teammates on Saturday, but it remains unclear whether he’s fit enough to play against South Korea.
“He will train this afternoon, and if he trains well, he will play,” Tite said ahead of the team’s practice session on Sunday.
Tite said he planned to use Neymar from the start instead of as a substitute if he’s healthy enough to play.
“I prefer to use my best player from the start,” Tite said. “It’s the coach who has to make that decision and take on that responsibility.”
Brazil struggled without the playmaker but still won its group despite a loss to Cameroon in the last match.

South Korea advanced after a surprise win over Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal in their last group game, making it to the last 16 for the first time in 12 years.
Tests after the Serbia match showed ligament damage in Neymar’s ankle and it wasn’t clear if he would be able to play again in Qatar. His ankle looked bad, with a lot of swelling, and doctors wouldn’t say if he would recover during the tournament.
But after undergoing intensive physiotherapy treatment, Neymar improved and was back training on Saturday. In footage released by the Brazilian soccer federation, he appeared to be in good condition, doing drills with the ball and taking shots on goal without signs of his injury.
Midfielder Fred replaced Neymar against Switzerland. With Brazil already through to the knockout phase, Tite rotated the entire squad against Cameroon.
This will be the first time Brazil and South Korea meet in an official match, with the Brazilians winning six of their seven friendlies. South Korea’s only win came in 1999.
South Korea advanced in Qatar thanks to a dramatic stoppage-time goal by Hwang Hee-chan in a 2-1 victory over Portugal. It had drawn with Uruguay in its opener and then lost to Ghana.
Hwang was expected to be in the starting lineup again against Brazil after missing the team’s first two games because of a hamstring injury.
South Korea is trying to advance past the round of 16 for the first time since its historic run as a co-host in 2002, when it made it to the semifinals and ended fourth. It was eliminated in the group stage both in 2014 and 2018.

Brazil is trying to win its first World Cup title since the 2002 tournament in Japan and South Korea. The Selecao has made it to the last eight in every tournament since then, with its best run being the semifinal appearance at the home tournament in 2014.
The winner of the match will face either Japan or 2018 runner-up Croatia in the quarterfinals.
Alves completes his mission, starts at World Cup for Brazil
Dani Alves was given a job to do, and he had to complete it to have a chance of making it to the World Cup.
“Mission given, mission accomplished,” the veteran Brazil right back said Thursday.
Dani Alves will start against Cameroon on Friday to become the oldest Brazilian player at a World Cup at the age of 39. He was in danger of not making it to Qatar after Brazil’s staff visited him in Mexico — where he plays with Pumas — and said he was not in good condition physically.
The staff told him the only chance he could be called up for the World Cup was if he could get back in shape.
“I wasn’t in my best condition when they went to visit me. They noticed it, so I asked them, ‘What’s my mission?’” Alves said. “Because I’m very good at completing my missions.”
The staff told Alves exactly what he needed to do, giving him some specific training goals. He quickly went to work.

“When they came again, they saw that I was ready,” Alves said. “I was committed. I couldn’t let them down after so much history with the national team. There were some difficult moments during those four months but I made sure that I could be here right now.”
By playing Friday, he will surpass the 38-year-old Thiago Silva, the team’s captain in Qatar, as the oldest Brazilian to play in a World Cup.
“I’m proud to be here and to be closing my cycle with the Brazilian national team in a World Cup,” he said. “Life has taught me that when you really want something, and when you really work hard for it, you will be rewarded.”
Alves’ call-up was the most criticized when Brazil coach Tite announced the final World Cup list, mainly because he hadn’t been playing with Pumas. He joined the Mexican club earlier this year after Barcelona decided not to extend his contract.
“It’s normal that people criticized me, because of my age and because of my situation,” Alves said. “But I can add to the national team even if I’m not in my best moment. I can contribute regardless if I am playing more of less.”
Tite said Alves made it to the squad for his contributions on and off the field.
“He has the quality as a player and deserves all my respect for having gone so far in his career,” Tite said. “He transcends soccer. It’s not only about what he does on the field.”
Alves will get to start against Cameroon because Tite is rotating the entire squad after Brazil won its first two games and has already reached the round of 16.
Read: Brazil coach sends message of support to Pelé
The coach said he didn’t use Alves in the game against Switzerland because he needed a more defensive-minded player to replace the injured Danilo at right back. He picked central defender Éder Militão instead.
“I understood that the team at that moment needed someone to defend, and I’m better at attacking,” Alves said.
Alves first played with Brazil in 2006 and is participating in his third World Cup. His last appearance at the tournament was in the round of 16 in 2014. He was injured ahead of the tournament in Russia.
Alves will be the captain against Cameroon in what will be his 126th appearance for Brazil.
“My mission is to serve the national team any way I can,” Alves said. “If it’s by playing the tambourine, then I’ll try to be the best tambourine player that I can be.”
Pelé back in hospital to regulate medication
Brazilian football great Pelé was hospitalized in Sao Paulo to regulate the medication in his fight against a colon tumour, his daughter said on Wednesday.
Kely Nascimento added that there was “no emergency” concerning her 82-year-old father’s health.
Nascimento, who lives in the United States, made the comments in an Instagram post after what she called “lots of alarm in the media today concerning my dad’s health.”
ESPN Brasil reported earlier that the three-time World Cup champion was taken to Hospital Albert Einstein due to “general swelling.”
“Really and truly, we appreciate the concern and love,” Nascimento said.
Spokespeople for Pelé and Hospital Albert Einstein did not reply to a request for comment from The Associated Press.
Pelé removed a tumour in September of 2021, with the hospital saying then that he would begin chemotherapy.
Edson Arantes do Nascimento, globally known as Pelé, has used his social media channels since then to deny he was in poor health. His latest public comment was in an Instagram post on Oct. 23, his birthday.
“I just want to express my gratitude. Life is good. Turning 82 with my family, in good health, is the best gift. Thank you for everything I have received,” he said in a video.
Pelé helped Brazil win the 1958, 1962 and 1970 World Cups and remains the country’s all-time leading scorer with 77 goals in 92 matches for the national team.

Brazil vs. Switzerland HEAD-TO-HEAD RECORD
The two sides have faced each other on nine instances in all competitions, with Brazil winning three of them. Switzerland won twice while four games ended in a stalemate.
Interestingly, the two teams were slotted in the same group in the last edition as well, with the match finishing 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes.
FIFA World Cup 2022: Brazil with plenty of options to replace Neymar
With Neymar out for at least another match, Brazil coach Tite must now start thinking about a replacement - and this time he has plenty of options.
Brazil is not as Neymar-dependent as it used to be, and Tite could go several different ways to replace the Paris Saint-Germain forward for Monday’s Group G match against Switzerland.
Neymar hurt his right ankle in Brazil’s opening 2-0 win against Serbia on Thursday. He has ligament damage and team doctors have not given a timetable for his recovery — or said if he will be able to recover at all.
Tite brought nine forwards to the World Cup, and could also add a midfielder as Neymar’s replacement if wanted.
The most straightforward option would be to use Rodrygo in Neymar’s position, keeping Raphinha, Vinícius Júnior and Richarlison in attack. Rodrygo playes more as an attacker at Real Madrid, but he has trained in Neymar’s “No. 10” playmaking position while with Brazil in Qatar.
Read: France vs Denmark FIFA World Cup 2022 LIVE Streaming: Where and how to watch online and on TV Channel, predicted XI
Another alternative would be to put an extra midfielder in Neymar’s position — Manchester United’s Fred or Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães, for example — freeing up attacking midfielder Lucas Paquetá, who played closer to defensive midfielder Casemiro against Serbia.
Another attacking midfielder available to Tite is Everton Ribeiro, while the other forwards in the squad are Gabriel Jesus, Antony, Gabriel Martinelli and Pedro.
Neymar attracted most of the attention from the tough Serbian defense, which kept roughing him up from the start. He was fouled nine times during the game, the most by any player at the World Cup in the first round of matches in the group stage.

Neymar is Brazil’s second-best all-time scorer with 75 goals, two behind Pelé’s record with the national team. The last time he was out at a World Cup — because of a back injury sustained in the quarterfinals against Colombia in 2014 — Brazil went on to get embarrassed by Germany 7-1 in the semifinals.
Tite won’t be able to count on right back Danilo, who also sprained his ankle against Serbia. Danilo’s replacement will likely be veteran Daniel Alves, although Tite could also use central defender Éder Militão in the position.
Brazil, seeking its first World Cup title in two decades, faces Cameroon in its last group match. It can reach the round of 16 in advance with a win on Monday if Cameroon doesn’t defeat Serbia in the other group match.
Brazilian protests intensify; Bolsonaro stays silent
The two men were sitting at a bar on Nov. 21, sipping drinks for relief from the scorching heat of Brazil’s Mato Grosso state, when police officers barged in and arrested them for allegedly torching trucks and an ambulance with Molotov cocktails.
One man attempted to flee and ditch his illegal firearm. Inside their pickup truck, officers found jugs of gasoline, knives, a pistol, slingshots and hundreds of stones — as well as 9,999 reais (nearly $1,900) in cash.
A federal judge ordered their preventive detention, noting that their apparent motive for the violence was “dissatisfaction with the result of the last presidential election and pursuit of its undemocratic reversal,” according to court documents reviewed by The Associated Press.
For more than three weeks, supporters of incumbent President Jair Bolsonaro who refuse to accept his narrow defeat in October’s election have blocked roads and camped outside military buildings in Mato Grosso, Brazil’s soy-producing powerhouse. They also have protested in other states across the nation, while pleading for intervention from the armed forces or marching orders from their commander in chief.
Since his election loss, Bolsonaro has only addressed the nation twice, to say that the protests are legitimate and encourage them to continue, as long as they don’t prevent people from coming and going.
Bolsonaro has not disavowed the recent emergence of violence, either. He has, however, challenged the election results — which the electoral authority’s president said appears aimed at stoking protests.
While most demonstrations are peaceful, tactics deployed by hardcore participants have begun concerning authorities. José Antônio Borges, chief state prosecutor in Mato Grosso, compared their actions to that of guerrilla fighters, militia groups and domestic terrorists.
Mato Grosso is one of the nation’s hotbeds for unrest. The chief targets, Borges says, are soy trucks from Grupo Maggi, owned by a tycoon who declared support for President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. There are also indications that people and companies from the state may be fueling protests elsewhere.
Road blockades and acts of violence have been reported in the states of Rondonia, Para, Parana and Santa Catarina. In the latter, federal highway police said protesters blocking highways have employed “terrorist” methods including homemade bombs, fireworks, nails, stones and barricades made of burnt tires.

Police also noted that roadblocks over the weekend were different from those carried out immediately after the Oct. 30 runoff election, when truckers blocked more than 1,000 roads and highways across the country, with only isolated incidents.
Now, most acts of resistance are taking place at night, carried out by “extremely violent and coordinated hooded men,” acting in different regions of the state at the same time, federal highway police said.
“The situation is getting very critical” in Mato Grosso state, chief state prosecutor Borges told the AP. Among other examples, he noted that protesters in Sinop, the state’s second most populous city, this week ordered shops and businesses to close in support of the movement. “Whoever doesn’t shut down suffers reprisals,” he said.
Since the vote, Bolsonaro has dropped out of public view and his daily agenda has been largely vacant, prompting speculation as to whether he is stewing or scheming.
Government transition duties have been led by his chief of staff, while Vice President Hamilton Mourão has stepped in to preside over official ceremonies. In an interview with newspaper O Globo, Mourão chalked up Bolsonaro’s absence to erysipelas, a skin infection on his legs that he said prevents the president from wearing pants.
But even Bolsonaro’s social media accounts have gone silent – aside from generic posts about his administration, apparently from his communications team. And the live social media broadcasts that, with rare exception, he conducted every Thursday night during his administration have ceased. The silence marks an abrupt about-face for the bombastic Brazilian leader whose legions of supporters hang on his every word.
Still, demonstrators, who have camped outside military barracks across Brazil for weeks, are certain they have his tacit support.
“We understand perfectly well why he doesn’t want to talk: They (the news media) distort his words,” said a 49-year-old woman who identified herself only as Joelma during a protest outside the monumental regional military command center in Rio de Janeiro. She declined to give her full name, claiming the protest had been infiltrated by informants.
Joelma and others say they are outraged with Bolsonaro’s loss and claim the election was rigged, echoing the incumbent president’s claims — made without evidence — that the electronic voting system is prone to fraud.
Scenes of large barbecues with free food and portable bathrooms at several protests, plus reports of free bus rides bringing demonstrators to the capital, Brasilia, have prompted investigations into the people and companies financing and organizing the gatherings and roadblocks. The Supreme Court has frozen at least 43 bank accounts for suspicion of involvement, news site G1 reported, saying most are from Mato Grosso. Borges cited the involvement of agribusiness players in the protests, many of whom support Bolsonaro’s push for development of the Amazon rainforest and his authorization of previously banned pesticides. By contrast, President-elect da Silva has pledged to rebuild environmental protections.
Most recently, protesters have been emboldened by the president’s decision to officially contest the election results.

On Tuesday, Bolsonaro and his party filed a request for the electoral authority to annul votes cast on nearly 60% of electronic voting machines, citing a software bug in older models. Independent experts have said the bug, while newly discovered, doesn’t affect the results and the electoral authority’s president, Alexandre de Moraes swiftly rejected the “bizarre and illicit” request.
De Moraes, who is also a Supreme Court justice, called it “an attack on the Democratic Rule of Law ... with the purpose of encouraging criminal and anti-democratic movements.”
On Nov. 21, Prosecutor-general Augusto Aras summoned federal prosecutors from states where roadblocks and violence have become more intense for a crisis meeting. Aras, who is widely seen as a Bolsonaro stalwart, said he received intelligence reports from local prosecutors and instructed Mato Grosso’s governor to request federal backup to clear its blocked highways.
Ultimately that wasn’t necessary, as local law enforcement managed to break up demonstrations and, by Monday night, roads in Mato Grosso and elsewhere were all liberated, according to the federal highway police. It was unclear how long this would last, however, amid Bolsonaro’s continued silence, said Guilherme Casarões, a political science professor at the Getulio Vargas Foundation university.
“With his silence, he keeps people in the streets,” Casarões said. “This is the great advantage he has today: a very mobilized, and very radical base.”
FIFA World Cup: Neymar in tears after injury against Serbia
Neymar sat crying on the bench and later left the stadium limping with a swollen right ankle after Brazil’s 2-0 victory over Serbia at the World Cup on Thursday.
Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar said Neymar sprained his ankle.
“We put ice on it while he was on the bench and then in physiotherapy,” Lasmar said. “There is no test scheduled for now but we will schedule it if needed. He will be under observation. We will know more tomorrow.”
Brazil coach Tite said he was “confident that Neymar will continue playing at the World Cup,” but Lasmar said it was too early to comment on the extent of the injury.

Neymar was also injured at the 2014 World Cup. Playing at home in Brazil, his tournament ended with a back injury in the quarterfinals against Colombia when he had to be taken off the field on a stretcher. Brazil ended up losing to Germany 7-1 in the semifinals.
Neymar, who was fouled nine times in the match against Serbia, got injured in the second half and was substituted in the 79th minute. Tite said he stayed on the field for 11 minutes before asking to be replaced.
“He overcame the injury because the team needed him,” Tite said. “I didn’t even see that he had been injured. He just kept playing.”
Neymar was in tears on the bench as doctors began treating him in the final minutes of the game at Lusail Stadium. He pulled his shirt over his head as doctors taped ice around his foot. He went into the locker room limping, and also limped as he left the stadium without speaking to reporters.
“The most important thing for us it to have him at 100% for the next match,” said Brazil striker Richarlison, who scored both goals on Thursday, including one after a buildup started by Neymar. “When I get to the hotel I’m going to go and see how he is doing.”
Neymar was tackled hard a few times during the match and was limping and grimacing before having to leave the field. He was the most fouled player on the field.

The 30-year-old Neymar has yet to win a major title with the national team. He helped the “Seleção” win the 2013 Confederations Cup and its first Olympic gold medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games.
With 75 goals for the national team, he is two shy of Pelé’s scoring record.
