Jashore, Sept 16 (UNB) – Police arrested the former president of Chowgachha upazila unit Islami Chhatra Shibir, a student wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, from Niyamatpur village early Sunday on charges of plotting sabotage.
The arrestee was identified as Mizanur Rahman, son of Abul Kalam of the village.
Mizanur was the president of upazila unit Shibir in 2012. Later, he went to Malaysia for higher studies and returned home several days ago, said sources.
Being informed of his return, a team of police arrested him on sabotage charges, said Sub-inspector Nasir Uddin of Chowgachha Police Station.
Sylhet, Sept 15 (UNB) – A fourth-grader schoolgirl was raped by two youths at Khursupur village in Osmaninagar upazila on Saturday morning.
Locals said the girl was collecting some vegetables from the field near her house in the morning around 10 am.
Then Ismail and his associate Hafizur ushered the girl to an under construction building site where they forcibly violated her.
Hearing the screaming of the girl, locals rushed in when the rapists managed to flee from the scene.
Later, the girl was taken to one stop crisis center at Osmani Medical College Hospital, locals added.
Al-Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Osmaninagar Police Station, said soon after the incident, police arrested one rapist -Ismail, 26, son of Chadik Ullah of the village.
Police started conducting drives to arrest the other rapist Hafizur. A case was filed with the police station in this connection, the OC added.
Jeshore, Sep 15 (UNB) -- A young man died after being electrocuted in Joypur village of Minirampur upazila on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Younus Ali, 25, son of Yousuf Ali of the village.
Deceased’s family members said Younus came in contact with a live electric wire while he was trying to clean leaves from an electric line.
Later, he was taken to upazila health complex where the duty doctors declared him dead.
Chandpur, Sept 15 (UNB) - Two people were killed and five others injured in a head-on collision between two CNG-run auto-rickshaws on Chandpur-Cumilla regional highway in Badia village of Shahrasti upazila on Saturday.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
The accident took place when an auto-rickshaw collided head-on with another around 7 pm, leaving a woman dead on the spot and six others injured, said Md Shah Alam, officer-in-charge of Shahrasti Model Police Station.
The injured were taken to Shahrasti Health Complex where the duty doctor declared a man dead.
The deceased woman had Tk 36,000 cash in her bag, the OC added.
Being information police rushed there and recovered the body from the spot.
Jeshore, Sep 15 (UNB) – A minor girl was killed after being hit by a bus while crossing the road in Maniktola area of Keshabpur upazila on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Mukta Khatun, daughter of Mokter Ali Sarder of Altapole village in the upazila, and a playgroup student of Manikpole Government Primary School.

The incident took place when she was crossing the road on way to home after school.
Police, however, managed to size the killer bus but its driver managed to flee the scene immediately after the incident.
