Worker dies falling off roof in N’ganj
Narayanganj, Oct 22 (UNB) – A construction worker was killed and three others were injured falling off the roof of an under-construction building of Haripur 210-MW power plant in Bandar upazila on Sunday night.
The identity of the deceased could not yet be identified.
Shahin Mandal, officer-in-charge of Bandar Police Station, said four workers slipped from the roof while working on it and suffered critical injuries.
They were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where one of them died around 9pm.
Father, son among 3 killed in Chandpur road crash
Chandpur, Oct 22 (UNB) – At least three people, including a man and his son, were killed as a covered van hit an auto-rickshaw on Chandpur-Cumilla road near Bakila Bazar in Hajiganj upazila early Monday.
The deceased were identified as LM Hossain, 45, his son Akram Hossain, 22, and Abu Sufian, residents of Kamta in Shahrasti upazila.
Joynal Abedin, sub-inspector of Hajiganj upazila, said the accident took place around 3:30am when the covered van hit the auto-rickshaw carrying them, leaving the three people dead on the spot and two others, including the auto-driver, critically injured.
The injured were admitted to General Hospital.

Eight smuggled air guns recovered in Jashore
Benapole, Oct 21 (UNB) – Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered eight air guns smuggled from India at Daulatpur in Chowgachha upazila on Sunday morning.
Being tipped off, a team of BGB conducted a drive near Daulatpur Government Primary School in the morning and recovered the air guns in an abandoned condition, said Lt Col Mohammad Ariful Haque, commanding officer of BGB-49 battalion.
The air-guns were handed over to Chowgachha Police Station and a case was filed with the police station in this connection, he added.

‘Drug trader’ hurt in Joypurhat ‘gunfight’
Joypurhat, Oct 21 (UNB) – A suspected drug trader sustained bullet injuries in a reported gunfight between two groups of drug traders at Tilakpur Burapukur in Akkelpur upazila early Sunday.
The injured was Ohidul, son of Kachim Uddin of Roynagar village in the upazila and accused in seven drug-related cases.
Hearing gunshots, a patrol team of police went to the spot, said Kiran Kumar Roy, officer-in-charge of Akkelpur Police Station.
Sensing the presence of police, the drug traders fled away.
Later, police found Ohidul as bullet-hit condition and took him to Joypurhat Modern Hospital.
The police team also recovered a pistol, one round bullet and 47 bottles of Phensidyl from the spot.
