Petition seeks stay on HC verdict against Khaleda in Zia Orphanage case
Dhaka, Nov 19 (UNB) – A provisional leave to appeal was filed on Monday seeking stay on the High Court verdict that extended the jail term of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case to 10 years from five years.
Karnaphuli editor held in Chattogram
Chattogram, Nov 19 (UNB) – Detectives arrested a leader of Jamaat-e-Islami from his residence at Chawkbazar in the city on Sunday evening on charge of planning acts of sabotage.
The arrestee was identified as Afsar Uddin, nayeb-e-Ameer of Chattogram city unit of Jamaat and editor of ‘Dainik Karnaphuli’.
A team of plainclothes police raided his residence around 7pm and arrested him, said Jahangir Alam, senior assistant commissioner (South) of Detective Branch of Chattogram Police.
‘Robber’ killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’
Kushtia, Nov 19 (UNB) – A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight between two groups of robbers at Hawakhali field in Bheramara upazila early Monday.
The deceased could not be identified yet.
