Jatiya Party MP Masud Uddin Chowdhury on Sunday railed against the government for allowing the provision to whiten black money, saying it would discourage the honest persons and taxpayers.
"Fifteen percent tax is being imposed to turn black money into white. It discourages honest tax payers and encourages black money holders who do not pay tax. Is this reasonable?” he said taking part in the discussion on the proposed budget for 2024-25 fiscal.
The Jatiya Party MP said that there are two types of black money. One is more black and the other is slightly less black, which is legitimately earned but not taxed—such as the income of doctors, lawyers can be given the opportunity to legitimise it by taxing it.
“But the way of attaining it is illegal and cannot be legitimised in any way. In this case it can be done with fines and investment conditions,” he said.
Masud Uddin Chowdhury, who is associated with the export of manpower, claimed that a group is conspiring to send workers to Malaysia.
On the other hand, independent MP of Kishoreganj Sohrab Uddin said no one will whiten black money by paying 15 percent tax. For this he demanded the opportunity to legalise undisclosed income by paying 5 percent tax.

Sohrab Uddin said that earlier the opportunity was given to show undisclosed income by paying 10 percent tax.
“No one will show undisclosed income to pay 15 percent tax. If it is made 5 percent people will show huge undisclosed income.”
He said that corruption is a big disease in the country now. Corruption has also increased with development.
“Development cannot be sustained if corruption is not curbed. To save the country, corruption must be prevented,” he said.
He also said that corruption in banks has increased: “The officials, the chairmen of the bank are immersed in corruption. For example, Basic Bank Chairman Abdul Hai Bachchu went abroad with thousands of taka. He was not tried.”
