DNCC has also prepared a year-long action plan to control the breading rate of mosquitos, including Aedes, he said while speaking at a press conference at the Gulshan Nagar Bhaban.
The DNCC mayor said two entomologists and 10 apprentices are working to identify the breeding grounds of the Culex (a genus of mosquitoes, several species of which serve as vectors of one or more important diseases of birds, humans, and other animals) mosquito.
“They have already completed research determining the intensity of the Culex mosquito at all the wards of DNCC. And subsequently anti-mosquito drives were conducted following the research,” he said.
From now on, ward councillors under the city corporation will be responsible for controlling the mosquitoes and other activities, including cleanliness, Atiqul said.
Meanwhile, entomologist Dr GM Saifur Rahman said wards 20, 28, 11, 5, 31, 32 and 17 were found to have high density of Culex mosquito breeding grounds.
DNCC Chief Executive Officer Abdul Hai, Secretary Rabindra Shri Barua, Chief Waste Management Officer Commodore Manzoor Hossain and Chief Engineer Brigadier General Sayeed Ahmed were also present at the press conference.
