Chattogram, Sept 6 (UNB) – A court here on Thursday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment in a case filed for killing his wife in 2000.
The convicted man is Md Anwar Ullah, a resident of Kalakum village in Bhujpur union in Fatikhchhari upazila.
The court also fined him Tk 50,000, in default, to suffer two years more imprisonment.
According to prosecution, Anwar strangled his wife Laily Begum to death on April 22 in 2000 as she did not give him permission for second marriage.
Later, he kept a bottle of poison beside the body to stage the incident as suicide.
Later, victim’s father Kamal Ullah filed a case with Fatikchhari police station.
After examining all the records and five witnesses, 3rd additional district judge and sessions judge Munshi Abdul Majid handed down the verdict.
