Police early Monday arrested a man who allegedly raped a fifth grader, from Baburhat area of the district town.

The accused is identified as Jahangir Dorji, 40, of the district town.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Sadar circle Jahed Parvez said the victim became pregnant as Jahangir raped her four months back in Anandabazar area of Sadar Upazila.

Police was informed after the four-month pregnant child had an abortion on July 2, he said.

Victim’s mother filed a case Sadar Model Police Station in this regard on Sunday, ASP said.

An influential group has been trying to hide the matter, he said adding that they are investigating into the matter.
