The accused police officer, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Sadar Police Station Shahe Alam, was suspended on Monday over the incident.
The victim, Awlad Hossain, a leader of Borhanuddin upazila unit convening committee of Swechchhasebak League, said he went to the district town by his motorcycle on Sunday afternoon when ASI Shahe Alam stopped him at Bangla School intersection and sought bike documents. As he showed the papers, the police officer allowed him to go.
Soon, the ASI intercepted the bike of Sujon, a Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Gangapur union unit in Borhanuddin, at the intersection and sought papers. At this stage, Sujon sought Awlad’s help.
As Awlad requested Shahe Alam to let Sujon go along with his motorcycle, an altercation between them broke out.
Angered by this, the police officer knocked him to the ground, dragged him along and kicked him in the chest, shows the video clip.
Some onlookers recorded the incident in their mobile phones and later, a clip was uploaded on the Facebook.
Superintendent of Police of the district Md Moktar Hossain said the ASI was closed over the incident and a departmental case will be filed against him.
