DUCSU issued a press release on this issue signed by the Vica-President (VP) Nurul haq Nur and General Secretary (GS) Golam Rabbani said, "As the students elected representative DUCSU supports all of student’s logical demands. DUCSU leaders already hold a discussion on Sunday with university administration on this issue”.
The press release also said “In absence of the Vice Chancellor (VC), no effective decision can be taken on the issue. DUCSU will take effective measures by holding discussion with university administration and Education Ministry after VC’s return from China”.
The statement was a response to a movement by a section of DU students demanding cancellation of seven government colleges’ affiliation with the university, awarded in 2017.
However, avoiding DUCSU’s assurance the spokesperson of the movement Shakil Mia declared that they would continue their protest until their demand are met saying that “We can only go back to classroom after getting assurance from the VC of fulfilling our demand”.
“We want an end to the affiliation as the university does not have the capability to bear the burden of the seven colleges," he added.
