The Detective Branch on Sunday arrested a fraudster who was taking money in exchange for a fake appointment letter at Madhurgati village in Narail municipality area.

The arrestee is Akhter Hossain, 53, of Madhurgati village in Chaki Union.

Narail police chief Jashim Uddin told the media that Akhter sent a fake appointment letter of Bangladesh Army to one Joy Kumar Ghosh and demanded Tk 5 lakh in return.

But Joy took the letter to the SP’s office, doubting its authenticity.

Meanwhile, Akhter called Joy over phone and told him to come to his home and hand over the money.

A DB police team caught Akhter red-handed while he was receiving the money from Joy’s uncle Chandan Kumar Ghosh.
