Jashore, Aug 7 (UNB) – A man accused in a murder case was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Mahidia in the Sadar upazila on early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Shishir Ghosh, 30, son of Nitya Ghosh of the district town. He was wanted in 17 cases including that of murder and robbery, police said.
Shishir was arrested with four improvised bombs from Shankarpur area in the town on Tuesday night, said Mohammad Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station.
Later, police took him at Mahidia area to recover firearms around 3:30am.
“His associates opened fired as soon as we reached the area. In the ensuing gunfight, Shishir was caught in the line of fire and killed on the spot,” the OC said.
Two policemen were also injured in the skirmish, he claimed.
A shutter gun and two bullets were recovered from the spot.
