4th grader killed ‘after rape’ in Rajshahi
A class four student was killed reportedly after rape at Lalitnagar village in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi district early Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Sumaiya Khatun, 11, daughter of Anwar Hossain of the village.

Mahmudul Hasan, officer-in-charge of Godagari Kakonhat police camp, said Sumaiya went to bed after watching TV on Saturday night.
When her parents woke up in the morning they did not find her in her room.
After a frantic search, they found the body of Sumaiya under a pile of paddy husk.
On information, police recovered the body and sent to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital morgue.

Police suspected that the girl was killed after rape sometime in the night.
Police are trying to identify the culprits, said the OC.

Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) data shows that 1,018 children were raped last year alone, but only 683 police cases had been filed. Also, 116 survivors were six years old or below.
Overall, 1,627 rape cases were reported last year and 53 of the women were killed by the perpetrators while 14 took their own lives, as per the data.
However, ASK's data is just the tip of the iceberg, according to aid agencies, who report that most women are too afraid to report rape.

In October 2020, the country was rocked by protests after a woman was allegedly attacked and raped in Noakhali.
In November last year, Bangladesh introduced capital punishment for rape, following days of protests against sexual violence against women in several cities across the country.
Woman kidnapped from Dhaka kitchen market, raped by 3
A woman has alleged that she was kidnapped and raped by three men in the capital's Pallabi area last week. However, police are yet to lodge an FIR in connection with the complaint.
The alleged crime occurred around 5pm on Tuesday, when the woman was passing through the Mirpur-11 kitchen market area.
According to the woman, a resident of Mirpur, two men sprayed some liquid on her face and forcibly took her to a nearby house, where another man joined them.

Later, the trio took turns to rape her. After the alleged crime, the three had threatened to kill the woman if she revealed her ordeal to anyone.
Initially the woman chose not to tell her family members about the rape due to the fear and stigma surrounding sexual violence in the society. Later she confided in her husband.
When contacted, the officer-in-charge of the Pallabi police station, Parvez Hossain, told UNB that the woman had come to the police station late on Tuesday evening.
"At the time, she told that she was kidnapped by two men, but didn't mention about the rape. On Friday, she visited the police station again and alleged that she was raped too," the OC said.

When asked why no FIR has been lodged yet, the officer responded: "We are probing the complaint."

But human rights organisations say the move will not solve the country's rape crisis, as the survivors of the heinous crime are often stigmatised in the society.
Another case filed against Tuhin Siddiqui Omi
Another has been filed against Tuhin Siddiqui Omi, one of the accused in a over rape and murder attempt on actor Porimoni, under the Bangladesh Passport Act, 1920.
On Tuesday night, a joint team of Dakkhinkhan and Savar police raided a recruiting agency belonging to Tuhin Siddiqui Omi in Dhaka's Dakkhinkhan area and recovered 102 passports from there.

Two staffers of the institution were also arrested during the drive.
The arrestees were identified as Palash and Bashir.
Kamal Hossain, inspector (investigation) of Savar Police Station filed a case against Omi and the two arrestees with Dakkhinkhan Police Station under the Passport Act, said Deputy commissioner of Uttara Division Police Md Saiful Islam.

Tuhin Siddiqui Omi, along with businessman Nasir U Mahmood and three others were arrested on Monday in a case filed over rape and murder attempts on actor Shamsunnahar Smrity, popularly known as Pori Moni.

They were placed on a seven-day remand each in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.
31-yr-old raped by three in Sylhet
A 31-year-old woman was allegedly raped by three men near Nilgaon Putikata bridge in Jalalabad upazila of Sylhet district.
One of them, police said, took the woman out on Monday night on the pretext of wedding shopping. He and the woman were in a relationship.

Two of the accused -- Taj Uddin, 22, son of Kaptan Mia, and Ekhlasur Rahman, 27, son of Rajan Mia of Islampur Mansinagar village of the upazila -- have been arrested.
The third accused, 27-year-old Phul Mia, an auto-rickshaw driver, is on the run.

On Monday evening, Taj asked the woman to meet him so that the two could go for wedding shopping. Later, Taj picked her up from the meeting place in an auto-rickshaw in which Ekhlasur was already seated.
The trio took her near Nilgaon Putikata Bridge and raped her, Sylhet Metropolitan Police said in a release. Taj and Ekhlasur were caught by passersby after the woman raised an alarm. The duo was later handed over to the police.

The woman lodged a complaint at the Jalalabad police station on Tuesday, based on which an FIR for rape was filed against the accused. "Efforts are on to nab the third accused on the run," a police official said.
The woman has been sent to the local one-stop crisis centre for treatment.
Chargesheet filed against 2 leaders of quota movement in DU student's rape case; Nur exempted
Police submitted its chargesheet Monday against two leaders of the Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, that led the movement against quotas in government jobs, in cases filed over the alleged rape of a Dhaka University student, and under the Digital Security Act.
Based on their investigation, the police have left out four of the accused in the victim's complaint, including the movement's tallest leader, Nurul Haque Nur, who went on to be elected as Vice president of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) and is now in the stages of a nascent political career.

Police found no proof of Nur's involvement in the alleged incident.
Detective Branch Inspector Md Wahiduzzaman, the Investigative Officer of the case, submitted the chargesheet with the chief metropolitan magistrate's court in Dhaka.
Police have charged Najmul Hasan Shohag, joint convener of the COSP, with rape; and Hasan Al Mamun, a former convener of COSP, under DSA.
Also exempted were a joint convener of COSP, Md Saiful Islam, vice-president of the organization Md Najmul Huda and DU student Abdullah-Hil-Baki.
On September 21, 2020, a female DU student filed a case with city’s Kotwali police station accusing VP Nur and five others of rape and abetting rape.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff had a good friendship with Mamun but at some point he started hinting his interest in an intimate relationship.
On January 3, 2020, Mamun had allegedly raped the plaintiff in his residence in Lalbagh after luring her with promises of marriage.

Later Najmul Hasan Shohag allegedly raped her on Februry 9 the same year, in a Chandpur-bound launch after promising to take her to meet Mamun, who went into hiding over the rape charges.
Rape attempt on Pori Moni: Boat Club expels Nasir from EC
Dhaka Boat Club expelled its member Nasir U Mahmood from the executive committee on Monday, hours after the real estate businessman was arrested for allegedly attempting to rape and murder popular actress Pori Moni.
The club took the unanimous decision at an EC meeting presided over by its President Dr Benazir Ahmed. It was attended by eight other EC committee members as well as club’s adviser Rubel Aziz.
The meeting also suspended the club membership of Nasir and three others, Tuhin Siddique Omi and Shah S Alam, said a statement from the club.

The meeting formed a three-member inquiry committee and asked it to submit the findings before the EC committee within 72 hours.
The decision came in the wake of a sexual assault complaint filed by Pori Moni on Monday against Nasir and five others at Savar Model Police Station. The incident occurred at Dhaka Boat Club on Wednesday night.
Nasir, a former president of Uttara Club Ltd. and Chairman of Kunj Properties, were arrested along with four others from Uttara area on Monday afternoon, police said.

The Dhaka Boat Club EC members observed that Nasir violated club rules by allowing guests inside the club premises after club hours, which is a major breach and goes against norms of the social club, read a statement signed by Dhaka Boat Club Secretary Lt Commander (retd) Md Tahsin Amin.
Uttara Club's ex-president Nasiruddin,4 others arrested over rape attempt on Pori Moni
Nasiruddin Mahmud, former president of Uttara Club Limited, and four others were arrested on Monday afternoon following a case filed over his reported attempt to rape and kill actress Pori Moni.
Nasiruddin and the four others were arrested from Uttara area of the capital, DMP's ADC (Media) Iftekhairul Islam told UNB.
“So far five people have been arrested from Uttara Sector-1 in connection with Pari Moni's case,” he said.
The arrestees, apart from Nasiduddin, are Tuhin Siddique Omi, 33, Lipi Akhter, 18, Sumi Akhter, 19, and Najma Amin Snigdha, 24.
Later in the day, Joint Commissioner of Detective Branch (DB) Harun or Rashid provided further information to the press regarding the arrests.
“The detective branch of police assisted Savar Model Police Station in arresting Nasiruddin following their request,” he said.

“At one point of the operation, a detective team arrested Nasiruddin and the four others, including three young women, from an apartment in Uttara Sector-1,” he added.
Besides, 1,000 pieces of Yaba tablets, foreign liquor and beer were seized from the apartment, Harun or Rashid said.
Nasir’s Facebook profile shows that he is currently the chairman of Kunj Developers, former president of Uttara Club, former district chairman of Lions Clubs International, a former footballer of the Dhaka first division and former elected general secretary of SM Hall of Dhaka University.
Earlier in the morning, Dhallywood star Pori Moni filed a sexual assault complaint against six people, including Nasiruddin Mahmud with Savar Model Police Station.
Pori Moni, in her verified Facebook page, uploaded a status seeking justice from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, claiming that the six people attempted to rape and kill her.
The popular actress, whose real name is Shamsun Nahar Smriti, addressed the post to the Prime Minister, stating that she is seeking justice as a loyal citizen of the country.
"I’ve been physically assaulted and they even attempted to rape and kill me. I want justice. I’ve asked for help from so many people. However, they just heard what I said and commented that they'll 'look into it' while the fact is that no one has helped me yet," Pori Moni stated in her post.
She has mentioned that she tried to contact the local police station and even IGP Benazir Ahmed, but she was yet to receive any formal help regarding her complaint. "I haven't found justice in the last three or four days. Where can I find justice? I’m a woman and an actress, but first of all I’m a human being. I can’t remain silent over what happened to me today," she added.
In her post, Pori Moni then addressed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as her "mother", writing: "I was about 2 and a half years’ old when my mother died. Today, I need a mother more than ever. I’ve never seen you, accepting any injustice quietly. I need you; I need your help to stay alive. Please save me, mother."

Pori Moni’s press conference
Pori Moni revealed the name and details of her assaulters through a press conference at her Gulshan residence in the capital on Sunday night.
The press conference took place after the actress surprised the nation through a status from her verified Facebook page on Sunday evening.
Breaking into tears at the press conference, Pori Moni described what exactly happened to her, sharing the graphic details of the incident and revealed who tried to rape her.
Sitting beside noted director Chayanika Chowdhury, Pori Moni said at the press conference that Nasiruddin Mahmud, a businessman and currently appointed entertainment and cultural affairs secretary of Dhaka Boat Club, assaulted her at the club in Birulia, Uttara in the capital on Wednesday night.
The actress said she went to the boat club with her costume designer Jimmy and Jimmy’s friend Omi for a professional meeting regarding a movie, where Nasir and another man offered them drinks at that time. She refused the offer stating that she was feeling unwell.
At one point, Nasir ganged up on her at the club and forced her to drink by putting the neck of a bottle into her mouth, beat her up and tried to rape her at the same time, Pori Moni said at the press briefing.
During the assault, she said, Nasir addressed himself as a “friend” of Benazir Ahmed, Inspector General of Bangladesh Police and president of the Dhaka Boat Club.
The actress went on saying that when she was able to get out after two and a half hours, she went straight to the Banani Police Station but the officials refused to hear her words. She stated that she has also contacted Zayed Khan, general secretary of Film Artists Association, and other leaders of the film industry, however, did not get any legal or logistic support.
Harun finds his voice demanding justice for Pori Moni, Muniya
BNP MP Harunur Rashid on Monday demanded the culprits who allegedly assaulted and attempted to rape and murder popular cinema actress Pori Moni be brought to justice. He also called for an investigation to reveal the real cause of death of college student Mosarrat Jahan Muniya, the mistress of the scion of Basundhara Group in April. Harun made his demands on the parliament floor, while participating in the discussions on two different Bills.

TikTok out-of-control: Teen goes for shoot, gets raped
A 16-year-old girl was drugged and raped in Sylhet’s Lamapara where she was lured in believing she would shoot for Tik Tok and Likee videos.
Rickshaw puller Kamal Hossain, the girl's father, filed a case Wednesday at Shahparan Police Station, against Tik Tok and Likee content creators Juber Ahmed Fanny of Lamapara and Liza of Tilagar.

It was learned from the case statement that the victim was into Likee and TikTok video sharing community.
Few months back she came to know Liza, who was part of the same community, and offered to take her along for a shoot in Jaflong, along with another companion, Fanny.

On May 19, Liza went to Fanny’s house in Lamapara, where she was deceived and raped.
The investigating officer of the case, SI Anjan Singh, said police were trying to arrest the accused using all means.
Expelled Sramik League leader Tufan denied SC bail
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected the bail petition of expelled Sramik League leader Tufan Sarkar of Bogura in a case filed by ACC.
A full bench of the Appellate Division led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order.
Advocate Sharif Uddin Chakladar stood for Tufan while Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan represented theAnti-Corruption Commission ( ACC).

On March 1, the High Court rejected the bail petition of Tufan in a case filed by ACC and said he will not be able to file a bail petition in any court.
Later, Tufan Sarkar filed a petition with the Appellate Division challenging the HC order.
The case was filed against Tufan over amassing wealth and concealing wealth information.
Tufan has no source of income and he in the Tax return submitted a return of Tk 1.60 crore.
He also refrained from giving the right information to ACC about his wealth.
On December 31, 2018, The ACC deputy director Mohammad Aminul Islam filed a case with Bogura Sadar Police Station.
Tufan is in prison since 2017 in a case filed over the rape and torture of a schoolgirl and her mother.
On June 22, 2020, The High Court rejected the bail petition of Tufan Sarkar in the case filed over the rape and torture of a schoolgirl and her mother.
Tufan took the girl to his house at Badurtala in the district town promising to arrange her admission into a local college and raped her there on July 17, in 2017.

When Tufan's wife Asha and her elder sister Rumki came to know about the incident, they along with some associates picked up the girl and her mother from their house.
They allegedly beat the girl and her mother with sticks and cut the hair of their heads.
At one stage, the offenders got their heads shaved done by a barber on July 28, 2017.
Later, two cases were filed in this connection on July 29 in the same year.
