3 to die for murder in Kishoreganj
A Kishoreganj court on Tuesday sentenced three people to death and another to life term imprisonment for killing a man in 2013.
The condemned convicts are Furkan Bhuiya, 49, Shahed Bhuiya, 39 and Engu Bhuiya, 59 of Katiadi upazila of Kishoreganj district.
The lifer is Mostafa Bhuiya, 41. The court also fined him Tk one lakh, in default, to suffer two months more rigorous imprisonment.
Kishoreganj Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Jannatul Ferdous Ibne Haque pronounced the judgment.
According to the prosecution, Rafiqul Islam alias Ratan Bhuiya was stabbed to death by the convicts on August 29, 2013.
A case was filed in this connection.
Police submitted chargesheet against five people. Of the chargesheeted accused Jamshed Bhuiya died during the trial proceedings.
Kishoreganj man painting inner walls of building electrocuted to death
A 28-year-old worker was electrocuted to death while painting the inner walls of the second floor of a building in Bhairab municipality on Sunday.
Shadhin Miah was from the Gachtala Ghat area of the municipality.

The mishap occurred in the evening at the Gachtala Ghat area inside a building, Bhairab Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Maksudul Alam said.
"Shadhin came into contact with a live wire while working. He died at the scene," the OC added.
Former VC of JU Alauddin passes away
Former vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University (JU) Alauddin died at a hospital in the city on Tuesday. He was 74.
Alauddin, also a freedom fighter, breathed his last at United Hospital in the city at 3:25 pm, said a media release of Jahangirnagar University.
He served as VC of the JU from July 18, 1998 to December 9, 1999. Before that he was the deputy vice-chancellor of the university.
He was also elected as the member of Parliament in 2001 from Kishoreganj-1 constituency.

Alauddin served as the education, social development and political affairs advisor to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from 2009 to 2013.
Born in 1947 at Pakundia upazila of Kishoreganj, Alauddin obtained MSc in 1971 from Dhaka University.
He also served as the deputy magistrate and deputy collector of Bangladesh Government from 1973-1977.
Alauddin joined as a professor of Chemistry Department of Jahangirnagar University in 1975.
JU VC Dr Mohammad Nurul Alam expressed deep shock at the demise of Alauddin. He also expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Man sentenced to life for raping minor girl in Kishoreganj
A man was sentenced life imprisonment for raping a minor girl in Kishoreganj on Sunday.
Kishoreganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 Judge Mohammad Habibullah pronounced the order.
The court also imposed a Tk 1 lakh fine on the accused Riyad, 31.

According to the case complaint, on June 15, 2018, the accused raped a 16-year-old girl at Karimganj upazila.
When the girl became pregnant, her mother filed a case against the accused at Karimganj police station.
Special Public Prosecutor MA Afzal represented the state and advocate Abu Sayem Mazumdar appeared for the accused during the hearing.
2 killed in bus-auto rickshaw collision in Kishoreganj
Two people were killed and four others injured in a collision between a CNG-run auto rickshaw and a bus in Kuliarchar upazila of the district Sunday.
The deceased were identified as auto rickshaw driver Rifat, 26, son of late Jamal Uddin of Kishoreganj municipality, and Johora Begum, 65, wife of late Raichh Uddin.

Mohammad Golam Mostafa, officer-in-charge of Kuliarchar police station, said the accident occurred in the morning when the speeding bus crashed into the auto rickshaw on Kishoreganj-Bhairab regional highway in Maddhyarchar area of the upazila.
The accident left the duo dead on the spot and four others critically injured, he said.

The injured are now undergoing treatment at Jahurul Islam Medical College Hospital in Bajitpur upazila, he added.
3 killed, another injured in Kishoreganj road mishap
Three people died and another got injured as a speeding bus ran over their three-wheeler auto-rickshaw on Kishoreganj-Bhairab Regional Road under Kuliarchar upazila of the Kishoreganj district on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased are Motiar Rahman, 60, N Islam, 65, and Kala Mia, 40. Of them Motiur and Kala Mia hailed from Bhairab upazila and N Islam from Kuliarchar upazila. The identity of the injured could not be known immediately.

Mohammad Golam Mostafa, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kuliarchar police station, said the accident happened around 3.30pm when the speeding passenger bus rammed into the auto-rickshaw from behind in Chhoysuti area under the upazila, leaving two of the four killed on the spot.
One of the two others injured succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital while rest one has been undergoing treatment at Jahurul Islam Medical College Hospital, he said.
Locals seized the bus but its driver managed to flee the spot, the OC added.
Youth stabbed to death by cousin in Kishoreganj
A 22-year-old youth was stabbed to death allegedly by his cousin in Sadar upazila of Kishoreganj district on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Abid Hasan Rahat, son of Anowar Ul Hoque of Rajgati union in Nandail upazila of the district. He was a first-year honours student of Government Gurudayal College.
The accused has been identified as Jubayer, 25, son of Shahidul Hoque.
Police said Rahat used to teach the accused’s nephew Fuyad, a resident of the Ukilpara area of the district town.
Around 6.30pm on Wednesday, an altercation broke out between Rahat and Jubayer at Fuyad's place over an unknown issue. The altercation suddenly turned violent when the accused pulled out a knife and stabbed him to death.

Md Daud, officer-in-charge of Kishoreganj Model police station, said that as soon as they were alerted, a team rushed to the spot and recovered the body.
The body was sent to Kishoreganj Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy, he said adding that they are trying to determine the reason behind the murder.
Kishoreganj boat capsize: 3 bodies fished out of Brahmaputra
The bodies of three people, who went missing after a boat capsized in the Brahmaputra river two days ago, were fished out on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Shamim Mia, 30, son of Kitab Ali of Tarpasha village, Md Sifat, 16, son of Abdus Samad, and Yeasin, 7, son of Monir Hossain of Mymensingh district.
Asaduzzaman Titu, inspector at Hossainpur police station, said local people spotted the bodies of the trio floating in the river under the Dane bridge at 6am and informed cops.
Later, drivers from the local fire service recovered the bodies of the trio.
The trio met the watery grave while going to Kishoreganj to see the historical boat race on September 19.
Kishoreganj: 3 to die for killing housewife for dowry
A Kishoreganj court Thursday sentenced three people to death for killing a woman for dowry.
Judge Mohammad Habibullah of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal of the district gave the order.
The death row convicts are the woman's husband Khokon Mia, 37, his sister Jarina Khatun, 39, and cousin Jalal Mia, 43.
The court also fined Khokon, Jarina and Jalil Tk50,000, Tk20,000 and Tk30,000, respectively.
Special Public Prosecutor MA Afzal argued for the state during the hearing. Advocate Ataur Rahman Akanda and Shyamal Kumar Sarkar represented the defendants.

On October 4, 2015, Hena Akter was strangled to death by the convicts for not fulfilling their demand for dowry, according to the case complaint.
The case was filed at Karimganj Police Station upon receiving a complaint from Hena's brother Saiful Islam.
Following investigation, police framed charges against six people but the court cleared the other three accused of the charges.
BNP activists clash with cops in Kishoreganj; 50 reportedly injured
At least 50 BNP activists were reportedly injured in a clash with police during a protest rally at Syedgaon intersection in Pakundia upazila of Kishoreganj on Saturday.
The BNP activist were peacefully protesting price hike of essentials including fuel when police attacked them and tried to disperse by lobbing tear gas shells, said Jalal Uddin, convener of BNP Pakundia upazila unit.

“At least 50 activists of our party were injured during the attack,” he said.
Meanwhile, Md Al Amin, Superintendent of Kishoreganj police (sadar circle), said BNP did not take any permission to hold rally or stage demonstration on road.

Police was forced to obstruct them and fire tear gas shells to disperse them when they were heading towards Pouro Bazar area, said the SP.
