Five ‘drug peddlers’ held in Chattogram
Chattogram, Sept 27 (UNB) – Police in a drive arrested five suspected drug peddlers from City Gate area under Akbar Shah Police Station in the port city early Thursday.
The identities of the arrestees could not be known yet.
Mimtanur Rahman, assistant director (media) of Rab-7, said a patrol team of Rab-7 conducted a drive in the area and challenged a private car to stop around 1:45 am.
At one stage, gunshots fired from the private car defying the Rab signal which prompted the elite force to take action.
Later, Rab members arrested the suspected drug peddlers including a woman and along with 496 bottles of phensidyl, one pistol, two bullets and three bullet shells from the spot.
12 bombs recovered in Habiganj

Missing businessman found dead in Ctg; two held
Chattogram, Sept 27 (UNB) – Police recovered the body of a businessman, who reportedly went missing on September 17, from Boba Colony in New Mooring area of the port city on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Syed Hossain, 40, son of Azmal Hossain of Gosail Danga area in the city.
Utpal Barua, officer-in-charge of EPZ Police Station, said Syed had lend around Tk one crore to his business partners Arman Kabir and Erfan Kabir, who are also brothers, in several instalments for business purposes.
Later on September 17, his business partners invited him to a house in Boba Colony saying that they will return the money. Since then Syed remained missing.
Syed’s wife Farida Akter lodged a general diary with EPZ Police Station on the following day.
After an investigation, police detained Arman and Erfan on Wednesday night. Following their confessional statement, police dug up the decomposed body from near the house, the OC said.

Two killed in Bogura road crash
Bogura, Sept 26 (UNB) – At least two people were killed when a truck plunged into a ditch after breaking the railing of a bridge in Shahjahanpur upazila on Wednesday.

The Bogura-bound iron rod-laden truck from Chattogram plunged into a ditch after breaking the railing of the Futki Bridge on Dhaka-Bogura highway around 12 noon, leaving two people dead on the spot, said Zia Latiphul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shahjahanpur Police Station.
