Bangladesh lost the ODI series with consecutive defeats in the first two matches in Mirpur. However, the Tigers will look to win the last ODI to end the series on a high note.
After the ODI series, both teams will compete in a three-match T20I series. The last two matches of the series will take place in Dhaka.
Tamim Disappointed Over Team's Sloppy Performance in Loss to England
Bangladesh's unbeaten home ODI series streak of seven years came to a shattering end as England thrashed them by 132 runs in Dhaka on Friday.
The Tigers' captain Tamim Iqbal admitted his team's performance was below par in both bowling and batting, which led to the eventual loss in the second ODI of the three-match series.
England won the toss and decided to bat first, posting a big total of 326 runs on the tricky Mirpur surface, which was never easy to bat on. The tourists were led by Jason Roy's scintillating century and Jos Buttler's handy fifty. The Bangladesh bowlers struggled in the first few overs, which allowed England to build a strong platform.
In reply, Bangladesh got off to a horrific start, losing two wickets in the first over, both returning with a duck each. The hosts eventually tumbled to 194 in 44.4 overs and lost the match by a big margin.

“There were many reasons behind this defeat,” Tamim said in the post-match press conference. “We failed to bowl well in the first few overs after opting to bowl first. We got a chance of running out Jos, but we could not do that. We were not up to the mark today.”
Tamim also said that Bangladesh had a great chance to restrict England in 260 to 270, but missing the run-out failed them. “We did not miss so many catches, but we let go of runs,” Tamim expressed his disappointment about sloppy fielding.
The defeat ended Bangladesh's seven-year unbeaten run in the home ODI series, which was a significant blow for the team. The third and final ODI is due on March 6 at Chattogram, and Bangladesh will try to finish the series on a high note.
After the ODI series, the teams will lock horns in a three-match T20 series.
Bangladesh's ODI series winning streak at home ends with a massive defeat to England
Bangladesh’s happy run in home ODI series has finally come to an end with a 132-run massive defeat to England on Friday in Mirpur.
In response to England's total of 326 for seven, Bangladesh tumbled for 194 in 44.4 overs and lost the match by a big margin.
Bangladesh lost three early wickets, including two golden ducks by Litton Das and Najmul Hossain Shanto, while replying and could never recover from that damage.
In the first over of their innings, Sam Curran removed Litton and Shanto. In his second over, Curran scalped the wicket of Mushfiqur Rahim as well.
At this point, the onus was on Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan to guide the team to a safe position. They tried to do so, but did not succeed. After three early wickets, Shakib and Tamim added 79 runs to the board, but it was not enough for the Tigers to climb the huge target set by the tourists.
Mahmudullah Riyad and Afif Hossain had a good start each, but they failed to capitalize on that against a quality bowling attack of the tourists.

Curran ended up taking the wicket of Taijul Islam, Bangladesh's last wicket, returning impressive figures of four wickets for 29 runs in 6.4 overs. Adil Rashid also bagged four wickets for England.
Earlier, Jason Roy's outstanding century and Jos Buttler's useful 76 helped England reach a formidable total of 326.
With this batting effort, England set themselves up to clinch the ODI series with one match in hand.
This was England's highest-ever total in Bangladesh in ODIs.
Ironically, Bangladesh's last home ODI series loss seven years ago was also to England.
England's batting approach on the tricky Mirpur surface seemed to work well as they scored steadily throughout the innings without being overly aggressive until the last few overs.
Taskin Ahmed was the most successful bowler for Bangladesh, taking three wickets, but he conceded over 60 runs in his ten overs, including 15 runs in the last over of the innings.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz also struggled with the ball, conceding more than seven runs per over in his ten overs and taking only two wickets. Mustafizur Rahman once again raised concerns about his form, conceding 66 runs in 10 overs without any luck.
To win this match, Bangladesh needed to set a new record for their highest successful chase at Mirpur. Their previous best was in 2012 when they chased down India's target of 290, thanks to fifties from Tamim, Jahurul Islam, and Nasir Hossain, with contributions from Shakib and Mushfiqur.
To keep the hope of winning the series alive, Bangladesh needed a similar team effort on Friday, but they failed to do that.
The third and final match of the ODI series will take place in Chattogram on March 6. After that, both teams will lock horns in a three-match T20 series.

With this batting effort, England set themselves up for the ODI series win with one match, scheduled for March 6 in Chattogram, to spare.
This was England's highest total in Bangladesh in the ODIs.

The Tigers lost the first match of the series by three wickets, making the second match a must-win affair for them.

Roy smashes century as England eye big total
English opener Jason Roy scored his 12th ODI century in the second match of the three-match series against Bangladesh in the capital's Mirpur on Friday.
Riding on his century, England are looking to put a big total on the board. At the end of 39 overs, England scored 212-5.
Roy completed his century off 104 balls, hitting 12 fours and a six.
England's batting approach on the tricky Mirpur surface appeared to be working well. They did not appear extra aggressive against the Bangladesh's attack. They have so far played according to the conditions.

Australia wins 3rd cricket test by 9 wickets against India
Travis Head scored an unbeaten 49 and dominated India’s spin attack to spearhead Australia’s run chase in an emphatic nine-wicket win in the third cricket test on Friday.
India won the first two tests and was aiming to secure its spot in the World Test Championship final with a third consecutive win in the four-match series.
But Australia dominated from the start at Indore after dismissing the home team for 109 after Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat, and then posted 197 for an 88-run first-innings lead.
Veteran spinner Nathan Lyon took eight wickets to bowl India out for 163 in the second innings on Day 2 and give Australia a target of 76 runs with three days to play.
Head and Marnus Labuschagne (28) steered Australia to 78-1 in 18.5 overs after Usman Khawaja, who scored a gritty 60 in the first innings, was dismissed on the second delivery of the day.
Head endured a difficult start, finding it difficult to score against Ravichandran Ashwin early, but accelerated his scoring rate and swung the momentum of the innings to finish unbeaten on 49 off 53 balls. Labuschagne finished 28 not out off 58 balls, hitting the winning runs with a boundary to long-on against Ashwin's bowling.
India has an unassailable 2-1 lead in the series and has already retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. With this win, just its second in a test match in India since winning the series there in 2004 and just India's third test loss on home soil in a decade, Australia has confirmed its spot in the WTC final to be played in England in June.
Chasing a small target, Australia started Day 3 in a commanding position but Ashwin (1-44) had other plans as he dismissed Khawaja for a two-ball duck. It was a testing passage of play for the Australians lasting nearly 45 minutes against Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja (0-23).
“It's difficult when you’re facing one of the best bowlers in the world,” said Head, who was contentiously dropped for the first test of the series despite being the form batter in Australia, only to be recalled for the second and third matches . “For us it was just to make sure we kept a calm head and then put the bad balls away to score.
“I thought we did a fantastic job to come back from (heavy defeats) of the first two tests.”
The red leather ball deteriorated quickly and had to be replaced after 10 overs by the umpires, and momentum shifted suddenly in Australia’s favor as the boundaries flowed.
Head hit six fours and a six, while Labuschagne struck six fours, the pair raising a 50 partnership off 84 balls to diminish India’s hopes of an against-all-odds win.
The pitched turned sharply from the start but it was Australia's spinners who made the most of it. Matthew Kuhnemann picked up 5-16 in the first innings Lyon took 8-64 in the second to spin their team to victory.
Rohit Sharma said his team needed to regroup and focus on what it did right to win the first two tests as it prepares for the fourth test starting March 9 at Ahmedabad.
“We didn’t ball well in the first innings. We have to do the job no matter the type of pitches,” he said. “We want our batsmen to put their hands up. One odd game will happen like this, and this game was all about that.”
India must win the fourth test to confirm its spot in the WTC final. A draw or a loss would leave India waiting for Sri Lanka’s result in the two-test series against New Zealand.
Bangladesh bowl first, look to avoid rare ODI series loss at home
To maintain their unbeaten ODI series record at home, Bangladesh chose to bowl first against England at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Friday.
The hosts suffered a defeat in the series opener in Mirpur Wednesday, which England won by three wickets, thanks to Dawid Malan's brilliant century.
With a win under their belt, England are now eyeing to clinch the series with one match left to play on March 6 in Chattogram.
Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal expressed disappointment at his team's batting performance in the first match, as only Najmul Hossain Shanto managed to score a fifty.
Tamim said the team could have posted 20 to 30 more runs to avoid the defeat. In the second match, he hoped to see better efforts from the batters.
Bangladesh fielded an unchanged playing XI, while England made two changes, bringing in Sam Curran and Saqib Mahmood, and resting Jofra Archer and Chris Woakes.

Preview of BAN vs ENG 2nd ODI 2023
The Bangladesh squad were defeated in the opening ODI of the three-match series against England and are hoping to level the series by winning the second game. Tamim Iqbal's team is facing the English on Friday, March 3. The match will start at 12 noon Bangladesh time at Mirpur Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Let's take a look at the match preview, changes in the team, and probable players list of the 2023 BAN vs ENG 2nd ODI match.
Preview of 2nd ODI Match of Bangladesh vs England Series 2023
Bangladesh cricket team is unbeaten in seven consecutive series at home ground. So, the Tigers have no other option except to win in the second ODI to continue that streak. That is why it was essential to win the first two matches in order to guarantee the series.. Earlier in 2016, Bangladesh got the taste of defeat in the last bilateral series at home to England. After that, the Tigers won seven ODI series in a row.
However, Bangladesh’s beginning was not good. Bangladesh got a good start after winning the toss and batting in the first ODI. But without Najmul Hossain Shanto, other batsmen could not help much with the bat. Bangladesh lost all wickets lost in 47.2 overs and stopped at just 209 runs. Still, the team saw the dream of winning in Taijul, Miraz, and Shakib’s spin action. But Dawid Malan's brilliant century lead England to a three-wicket win.

England performed brilliantly in the first ODI according to their plan. England played a different plan on a wicket where India-Sri Lanka found it difficult. Clearly, David Malan's experience of playing in the Dhaka League and BPL for six consecutive years has come in handy. In addition to that, England's bowlers also played a big role with the ball.
However, experienced Bangladeshi players for the Mirpur pitch could not impact. For example, Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan are more experienced in this pitch. But they failed to live up to expectations. When they were both dismissed while attempting to slog spinners in the middle overs, the rest of Bangladesh's batting line-up had to readjust their strategy. Najmul Hossain Shanto was unable to capitalize on his first ODI fifty, and Mahmudullah was out playing cautiously.
On the other hand, except for Malan’s knock, England did not have any significant achievements. Therefore, England will seek to boost their batting following Malan's substantial performance, while Bangladesh requires their batsmen to make the most of the beginning of their innings. The bowling from both sides was exemplary. Taskin Ahmed and the Bangladesh spinners gave it their all. Despite their efforts, the final three wickets escaped England, yet they successfully kept the opposition to a modest total.

Mustafiz’s magic is not working in Dhaka's pitch lately. So, Ebadot Hossain or Hasan Mahmud can be an alternative to Mustafiz in the second ODI.
England did not keep Sam Curran, Saqib Mahmood, Rehan Ahmed and Reece Topley in the first match. It appears unlikely that Rehan will play due to his illness, but the team is predicted to rotate their players throughout the tour.
No other team has been able to beat Bangladesh in a home series since 2015, and England is hoping to be the one to do so. If they can win tomorrow's match, they will be the only team to twice win a bilateral ODI series in Bangladesh since 2015.
Change in Bangladesh Team
Just before the second ODI against England, there was a sudden addition to the Bangladesh ODI team. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) suddenly added Shamim Hossain Patwari to the team 18 hours before the match. This 22-year-old cricketer was brought in as a substitute fielder due to the probable injury of one cricketer.

Shamim, who has played 10 T20s for Bangladesh, has been called up to the first ODI team. Earlier, Shamim was also included in the first two T20 teams against the English. The second one-day team now has 15 members. The team for the third ODI has not been announced yet.
However, Shamim’s performance was not very good in the last Dhaka Premier League, the domestic edition of the 50-over edition. He scored 285 runs at an average of 31.66 with 1 century and a fifty in 11 innings. But his main area of strength, the quick runs, was reflected in his strike rate (103.63).
But, the Chief Selector, Minhajul Abedin Nannu, explained to bdnews24.com that his batting was not a factor in Shamim’s selection to the team. Since there is a little concern about one team member's injury, Shamim may start as an extra fielder to help. As a fielder, however, Shamim has attracted attention in different ways. He has earned a reputation as one of the most talented fielders in the country.

Pitch and conditions
The team winning the toss might decide to bowl first due to the dew. This wouldn't be the worst choice in Dhaka, as the ball will still have a bit of unpredictable bounce and spin in the daytime. Fortunately, the weather is still dry, although it is becoming increasingly warm.
Final Words
Bangladesh-England has played a total of 22 matches against each other in one-day cricket. The English have succeeded overwhelmingly, winning a total of 18 matches, while Bangladesh have only achieved success in four.
After a disappointing performance in the first game, Bangladesh is in a do-or-die situation at the Sher-E-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on March 3. Bangladesh will have to win the second ODI of the BAN vs ENG series 2023 in order to stay in contention. England, on the other hand, is looking to secure the series.

While Shamim is yet to make his ODI debut, he played T20 internationals for the Tigers.
The batter played 39 List A matches, scoring 922 runs with a century, and averaged more than 31 in domestic 50-over matches.
Shamim's inclusion in the squad is expected to bolster Bangladesh's batting lineup.

England aim to seal series against Bangladesh in second ODI
England will look to clinch the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh when they face off in the second ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on Friday.
The visitors won the first ODI by three wickets on Wednesday, posing a threat to end Bangladesh’s seven-year-old unbeaten run at home in the ODI series.
Dawid Malan’s unbeaten century steered England to a smooth victory that seemed difficult on the challenging Mirpur pitch. Malan, who has plenty of experience playing in Bangladesh, assessed the situation well and delivered what England required.
Both teams will be hoping for better batting performances in the second ODI, as they struggled to cope with the disciplined bowling from both sides. Bangladesh were bowled out for 209 overs, with only Najmul Hossain Shanto hitting a fifty.
Shanto reached his maiden ODI half-century but fell soon after, playing a loose shot. The left-hander will be keen to convert his starts into big scores and cement his place in the middle order.
England also lost wickets at regular intervals and were reduced to 103-5 at one stage. Malan held the innings together with a mature knock and found support from Will Jack (26), Moeen Ali (14) and Adil Rashid (17 not out). The left-hander hit eight fours and four sixes and smothered Bangladesh’s charge with his calmness under pressure.
England captain Jos Buttler praised Malan’s innings and said he was pleased with the team’s performance.

“It was a fantastic knock from Dawid Malan. He showed great composure and skill. It was a great win for us. We showed great character and fight,” he said after the match.
Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal rued the lack of runs on the board and said his team need to bat better in the second ODI.
“We were probably 20-25 runs short. We lost too many wickets in clusters. We need to bat better as a unit,” he said in the post-match presentation.
Bangladesh are likely to stick with the same XI that played in the first ODI, unless they opt to replace underperforming Mustafizur Rahman with any of Ebadot Hossain and Hasan Mahmud.
The pitch is expected to be similar to the one used in the first ODI, offering some assistance to both seamers and spinners. Dew could play a factor in the evening and prompt the team winning the toss to bowl first. The weather is forecasted to be dry but getting warm.
