Bangladesh's star batter, Tamim Iqbal, has commenced preparations for the upcoming season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). He was spotted practicing at the indoor facility in Mirpur on Monday.
It has been approximately three months since Tamim last batted. Concerns about his fitness led to his absence from the Asia Cup, the World Cup, and several other matches for the Tigers, posing a challenge for him to regain match fitness.

In the meantime, he requested the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to exclude him from the new central contract, signaling a shift in his ambition away from the national team.

Despite his return, Tamim played only two matches for the Tigers. The selectors sidelined him during the World Cup, citing fitness concerns. In an interview on the eve of the World Cup, Tamim said he is indeed struggling with injuries but those were not as severe as portrayed by the selectors. He expressed his readiness to play in the World Cup, but the opportunity did not materialize.

Bangladeshi umpire Sharfuddoula set for another milestone
Bangladeshi umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid is poised to achieve another milestone in his umpiring career as he officiates in the Test match between Australia and the West Indies later this month in Australia.
This achievement marks him as the first Bangladeshi umpire to officiate a Test match in Australia.
In the last ICC World Cup held in India, he served as an on-field umpire in several matches—another historic feat for a Bangladeshi umpire officiating in World Cup matches.
To date, he has umpired in over 100 matches for Bangladesh, setting a record as the Bangladeshi official with the most international matches under his belt.
Sharfuddoula commenced his umpiring career in 2010, and over the past 13 years, he has established himself as the most prolific umpire in Bangladesh.
India beats South Africa in shortest ever test and draws series
India beat South Africa by seven wickets in the shortest test match in cricket history on Thursday.
India crossed the finish line 12 overs after lunch on day two. Chasing 79, it scored 80-3.
Only 642 legitimate deliveries were bowled across four-plus sessions. The previous shortest test — 656 balls— was in 1932 at Melbourne between Australia and South Africa.
India's first win at Newlands tied the two-match series 1-1. South Africa won in Centurion by an innings and 32 runs.
“This win is a great feat for us,” captain Rohit Sharma said. ”We had to learn from our mistakes in Centurion. We came back very well, especially our bowlers. We knew it was going to be a short game where every run mattered. We applied ourselves with the bat and got nearly a 100-run lead."
Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah's 6-61 helped to negate Aiden Markram's brilliant 106 to bowl out South Africa out for 176 runs in its second innings by lunch.
That gave India a tricky chase of 79 on a pitch of variable bounce.
Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a quickfire 28 off 23 balls, with six boundaries. He was caught at long leg off Nandre Burger.
Sharma survived two dropped catches, and was unbeaten in the end with 17 not out.
Kagiso Rabada bowled Shubman Gill for 10, and finished the short series with 11 wickets.
Marco Jansen nicked off Virat Kohli for 12 runs when India was four runs from only its fifth win on South African soil.
Earlier, Markram’s counterattacking century helped the Proteas improve from 111-7 to finish on 176, when lunch was called.
After 23 wickets fell on an extraordinary first day, South Africa resumed on 62-3 in its second innings and was immediately in more trouble when David Bedingham was caught behind for 11 off Bumrah.
Kyle Verreynne scored 9 and pulled to mid-on four overs later, again off Bumrah.
Jansen was out caught, a return catch to Bumrah, then Keshav Maharaj was caught at gully.
Bumrah earned his ninth five-wicket haul in test cricket and South Africa was down to 111-7 in 25.2 overs.
The game looked like ending in the morning session with India chasing an innings victory. But Markram stepped up.
The opener scored 51 off 38 balls with tailender Rabada for the eighth wicket, and reached his hundred off 99 balls. Markram hit 17 fours and two sixes in his 103-ball knock.
The next highest score was Dean Elgar’s 12. Apart from Markram, only three batters reached double digits.
Before Markram’s masterclass, the best individual score in the game was Kohli’s 46 in India's first innings.
Markram was caught off Mohammed Siraj, who picked up his first wicket of the second innings after taking 6-15 in the first innings.
Prasidh Krishna also claimed his maiden test wicket after another poor outing in his debut series.
Bumrah wrapped up South Africa’s innings before lunch when Lungi Ngidi was caught at slip for 8. It was his third six-wicket haul in test cricket.
He finished the series with 12 wickets and was named joint player of the series with Elgar, who scored 201 runs across four innings.
Elgar, who led South Africa at Newlands in the absence of the injured Temba Bavuma, announced his retirement pre-series.
“I would have liked to do more in this test, but I am still proud of my performance in Centurion,” said Elgar, who scored 185 in the first innings there.
“These were some really tough conditions. The first innings killed us with the bat. India bowled very well and used the conditions perfectly. A three-test series would have been fantastic."
Siraj takes 6-15 as India routs S. Africa for 55, its lowest score since test cricket readmission
Mohammed Siraj claimed his best Test figures as South Africa was shot out for just 55 in 23.2 overs on the opening day of the second cricket test against India.
South Africa’s paltry total was its lowest since being readmitted to the test arena in 1991.
Paceman Siraj took 6-15 in a stunning nine-over spell as the Proteas collapsed before lunch.
It was his third five-wicket haul in his 23rd test, and his first against South Africa. His previous best was 5-60 against the West Indies in Port of Spain last year.
Jasprit Bumrah also took 2-25 while Mukesh Kumar picked up two wickets without conceding a run in 2.2 overs.
The procession started in the fourth over, with Aiden Markram caught at slip for two.
Stand-in skipper Dean Elgar, who scored 185 in the first test at Centurion, was bowled for four as Siraj sent back both openers.
Tony de Zorzi was caught behind and Bumrah sent back debutant Tristan Stubbs for three, caught at short leg.
There was a 19-run partnership for the fifth wicket between David Bedingham and Kyle Verreynne, but it was only a brief respite for the host nation.
Siraj dismissed both batters in the space of 10 deliveries, with Verreynne’s 15 the Proteas’ top score. In between, he sent back Marco Jansen.
Kumar was introduced later and he took two wickets in 14 deliveries, accounting for Keshav Maharaj and Kagiso Rabada.
Bumrah finished off the innings by having Nandre Burger caught at slip,
South Africa had opted to bat after winning the toss, with Elgar skippering the team in his final test before retirement as Temba Bavuma was ruled out by injury.
The hosts also brought in Maharaj and Lungi Ngidi. India made two changes, recalling Kumar and Ravindra Jadeja.
South Africa won the opening match of the two-test series by an innings and 32 runs.

Reflecting on his Test debut against New Zealand in December 2011, Warner expressed gratitude for the pivotal role former Australia captain Greg Chappell played in shaping his career. The opener acknowledged Chappell's belief as a driving force behind his success on the international stage.
While Warner clarified his retirement from ODIs, he teased a comeback for a potential return if Australia requires an opener for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. The ICC Champions Trophy is the only title missing in David Warner’s fine career.

He stated his willingness to answer the call if playing decent cricket in two years' time aligns with the team's needs. Australia won the last Champions Trophy back in 2009 against New Zealand in South Africa.
Although he is not available for the ODI and Test, the Australian cricketer also emphasized his eagerness to continue representing his country in T20 cricket.
Warner, who has been a vital part of Australia's T20 squad, expressed hopes of featuring in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the USA in June. His T20 journey will continue as he marks the final chapter of his illustrious career.
Following the conclusion of the Test series against Pakistan in Sydney, Warner is set to turn out for at least four matches with the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League (BBL). However, his participation in the BBL finals remains uncertain as he eyes an opportunity to play for the International League T20 (ILT20) franchise Dubai Capitals, later this month. Warner is currently seeking a no objection certificate (NOC) from Cricket Australia to take part in the Dubai league, with the first game scheduled for January 21.

Despite his commitment to T20 cricket, Warner confirmed his absence from Australia's three-match ODI series against West Indies in the upcoming month. Additionally, he might skip the ensuing T20I series to participate in the International T20 league, supported by IPL team owners.
In his emotional address to the media, Warner expressed gratitude for the support he has received throughout his career. He thanked his family, teammates, coaches, and fans for being an integral part of his cricketing journey. The cricketing fraternity now eagerly awaits Warner's final appearances in Test and T20 cricket, celebrating the remarkable career of one of Australia's cricketing icons.
The announcement took place ahead of Warner's 112th and final Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground against Pakistan, where he bid adieu to the longer format of the game. As David Warner prepares for his farewell match, cricket fans worldwide will undoubtedly cherish the memories of his explosive batting, unmatched dedication, and invaluable contributions to Australian cricket in the 50-Over format.

Taskin regrets missed IPL opportunity, upbeat about comeback in BPL
Bangladesh speedster Taskin Ahmed is working on his recovery from a shoulder injury. The pacer said he is upbeat about making a comeback in the upcoming season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) but expressed regret over missing the IPL chance.
The pacer was included in the IPL draft — the cash-rich T20 event in India. However, at the last moment, his name was withdrawn by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), marking the thrid time he missed an IPL opportunity.

“As a cricketer, I always want to play in franchise leagues,” Taskin said. “With this, I missed the IPL chance three times.”
Taskin also missed the opportunity to play in the recently-concluded New Zealand series due to the shoulder injury.
“I would have enjoyed it if I was on this tour. It's always great to bowl in New Zealand,” he said. “I would have witnessed Bangladesh's success if I were there. Bangladesh played really well. It's our team, and the pride is always ours.”

Bangladesh's pace-bowling unit performed well in New Zealand, making the most of the conditions. During the tour, Bangladesh won an ODI and a T20I, marking the first instances of Bangladesh winning white-ball international matches against New Zealand on Kiwi soil.
The right-arm pacer mentioned that he has started to bowl with full strength and is expected to make a return with BPL.

“I’m feeling much better now and have started bowling,” he said. “We still have two weeks to go before BPL, so I believe I can make a comeback fully fit.”
It's all about David Warner in his final test at the Sydney Cricket Ground against Pakistan
The leadup to the third test between Australia and Pakistan at David Warner's home Sydney Cricket Ground was always going to be about the opening batter himself playing his final test in the sport's traditional format.
Warner has helped to hype what amounts to a match with little really on the line for the home side — Australia has already clinched the three-test series with victories in Perth and Melbourne. The visitors still have something to play for — the last time Pakistan beat Australia in a test Australia was 1985 — at the SCG.
Warner announced during a New Year's Day news conference that he will also add one-day internationals to his retirement list. But in typical Warner fashion, he said he'd make a comeback at the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy if asked.
He said the time was right to conclude his ODI career following Australia’s recent World Cup triumph in India, where he was the champion team’s leading run-scorer.
Warner will continue to play Twenty20 cricket for Australia, at least until T20 World Cup in the United States and Caribbean in June.
“It was a (ODI) decision that I was very, very comfortable with,” the 37-year-old Warner told Australian Associated Press. “To win in India, from where we were, was absolutely amazing."
Australia lost two early games in the group stage of the World Cup, denting its title hopes, but Warner said it helped inspire the squad.
“The bond just got stronger with each other and it’s not by fluke or by chance that we were able to get to where we were,” he said.
In 111 test matches Warner has accumulated 8,695 runs at an average of 44.58, including 26 centuries and a career-high score of 335 not out, scored against Pakistan in 2019.
Warner retires from the 50-over format as the sixth-highest run-scorer in Australian ODI history, having scored 6,932 runs from his 161 matches, and a two-time World Cup winner. His 22 ODI centuries are the second-most by any Australian ODI player, behind only Ricky Ponting, who made 29 in 105 more innings than Warner played.
The Champions Trophy, set to be played in Pakistan next year, is among the only pieces of silverware missing from Warner’s resume; the last time Australia won it in 2009, he was not yet a certainty for selection in the starting side.
“If I’m playing decent cricket in two years’ time and I’m around and they need someone, I’m going to be available,” he said.
Warner said the decision to quit ODIs would create more opportunities to play franchise cricket overseas, including in the United Arab Emirates-based ILT20. He is also eager to remain in Australia's Big Bash League after his contract with the Sydney Thunder expires at the end of this season.
Warner will have a commentary role with Fox Sports television later this year but beginning Wednesday he will again open the batting for an Australian lineup aiming for a test sweep of Pakistan.
On Tuesday, Warner took to social media to plead for the return of his “baggy green” test cricket cap which was in a bag that went missing in transit between Melbourne and Sydney this week.
“It’s sentimental to me. It’s something I’d love to have in my hands walking out there this week," Warner said in the post on Instagram.
Australian selectors have confirmed there'll be no change from the starting XI that won by 79 runs in Melbourne. It means pace bowler Scott Boland and allrounder Cameron Green will again miss out on the starting lineup.
Pakistan hopes that legspinner Abrar Ahmed will be fit for the Sydney test. He was ruled out of the first two tests with a right leg injury but was bowling apparently without pain in the nets during Pakistan's training session Monday.
