Ten people died following bouts of fever, cold and in some cases acute respiratory distress syndrome, or ARDS, in four districts  - Chandpur, Sylhet, Dinajpur and Barishal - over a 24-hour period till Sunday afternoon.

The bulk of the deaths occurred in Chandpur, where seven people died following the mentioned symptoms, that are almost identical to those associated with the coronavirus that is now clearly well-entrenched throughout Bangladesh.  

The deceased are Mojibur Rahman, aged 65, of Chittralekha intersection of the district town; Billal Sheikh, 42, resident of Chapila village; Abdur Rashid Akhanda, 70, of Dasadi village in Kalyanpur union; Aziz Mollah, 65, of Sadar upazila; Siddiqur Rahman, 102, Mawalana Shah Alam Chowdhury, 70, both of Dhorera Chowdhury Bari; and Mizanur Rahman, 48, of Doagonda village in Hajiganj upazila.

Residential medical officer of the Hajiganj Upazila Health Complex Dr Sujauddoula Rubel confirmed their deaths.

In Sylhet, Liton Das Likon, a local correspondent of an online news portal and resident of Chanpur village in Balaganj upazila, who had been suffering from fever and cold related issues, died on the way to hospital.

Assistant Medical Officer Jonmejoy Datta of Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital confirmed his death.

In Barishal, Siddiqur Rahman, 65, resident of Beltola area of the city, who was undergoing treatment at Barishal-Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, died today.

According to the hospital sources, Siddiqur was admitted to the hospital on June 10, and died around 2 pm today.

In Dinajpur, Md Mostafizur Rahman, 72, a retired school teacher and resident of Boniagari village of Ghoraghat upazila, died following an onset of ARDS today, according to Dr Nur Newaj Ahmmed, upazila health and family planning officer.
