In Sadar upazila, the suspected robber Monsur Ali, 38, son of Miaz Uddin, resident of Bidyabagish area in Borobari union was injured in a reported gunfight with police.
Mahfuz Alam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said that a team of police conducted a drive in the area to arrest the listed robber Monsur.
Sensing the presence of police, Monsur along with his associates opened fire on police - the key detail in every ‘gunfight’ that absolves the police of any blame- triggering the gunfight with police.
Till this point, it is the exact same script that we are used to, where next we learn Mansur gets killed, and it’s not even very clear who shot him - his robber mates or the police.
In Sadar upazila of Lalmonirhat we get the variant, in which Mansur only gets shot in both legs - a reliably non-lethal issue of gunfire when the intent may be to merely punish the victim, rather than finish him/her.
Monsur, an accused in 11 cases including robbery and drugs according to the OC, was admitted at Sadar Hospital.
Police also recovered local arms from the spot, as they do, not much but enough.
In Kaliganj upazila, auspected drug trader Sumon Miah, 29, son of Irmanul Haque in Kamarpara area of Aditmari upazila, also ended up getting shot in both legs in another ‘gunfight’ with police in Chakla hall area in Chalbola union around 4am.
Makbul Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kaliganj police station, confirmed the gunfight with a gang of drug traders, adding that the team brought back 100 bottles of Phensedyl ‘recovered’ from the spot, proving its existence.
