Students and teachers under the banner of ‘Jahangirnagar Against Corruption’ took position at the entrances of different faculties in the morning.
They also brought out a procession on the campus.
Meanwhile, many teachers loyal to the VC took classes and examinations defying the strike, triggering arguments with the protesters, witnesses said.
Prof Jamal Uddin of Environmental Science department said, “Two Chhatra League leaders openly confessed before the media that they took Tk 25 lakh from the VC. She would have taken action against them had she been innocent.”
The VC has lost moral right to remain in her post, he said, adding that they would continue the protest until the ‘corrupt’ VC is removed from her post.
On the other side, teachers supporting the VC insisted on resolving the matter through dialogue as the ongoing movement is hampering the academic activities.
Students started the protests in August demanding judicial inquiry into the reported involvement of the vice-chancellor in corruption and mismanagement of the Tk 1,445 crore campus development project.
It has been alleged that the VC managed the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) JU unit leaders with Tk 1.6 crore from the development fund.
