Benapole, Dec 21 (UNB) – Police arrested Jamaat leader Abu Sayeed Mohammad Shahadat Hussain who is contesting the upcoming general election as a BNP candidate from Jashore-2 (Chaugachha-Jhikargachha) in Jhikargachha upazila on Friday morning.
A police team picked him up from his residence in the upazila headquarters around 11am, said Abdur Razzaque, officer-in-charge of Jhikargachha Police Station.
Shahadat Hussain, Nayeb-e-Ameer of district unit of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, was an FIR-named accused in a case filed in October on sabotage charge, he said, adding that he did not surrender before the lower court on expiry of the High Court bail in the case.
Earlier, the Jamaat leader alleged that miscreants attacked his residence and vandalised his microbus and motorcycle on Thursday.
Later, he uploaded pictures of the damaged vehicles on his Facebook account.
