The sudden strike caused immense sufferings for bus passengers on these two routes.
A leader of transport workers, wishing not to be named, said some alleged activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) swooped on two counters of ‘Hanif Paribahan’ at Karnaphuli Shah Amanat Bridge and Dampara in Chattogram and vandalised and looted valuables on Saturday.
Abul Kalam Azad, secretary general of Chattogram Road Transport Owners Association, said bus movement on Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar and Chattogram-Bandarban remained suspended from Sunday morning protesting the attack on the two counters of Hanif Paribahan.
“Moreover, when we informed the matter to police they did not take any steps rather they misbehaved with us,” said Azad.
Abdul Kuddus, president of Bandarban Shoilashobha Bus Shamity, said the bus movement in internal routes within Bandarban is operating as usual but communications halted on Bandarban-Chattogram route.
Hanif Paribahan’s owner Mohammad Hanif is a convict in August 21 grenade attack case.
