“The elections to these two city corporations will be held on time. The Election Commission has been informed and the ministry has also approved the files regarding the election...It is the responsibility of the EC now. Hopefully these two city elections will be held on time,” he said.
The minister was speaking at a discussion titled 'Edge of Doing Business: Dealing with Construction Permit' jointly arranged by the International Business Forum Bangladesh (IBFB) and Centre for Urban Studies (CUS) at Cirdap Auditorium in the capital.
The minister noted that rural residents are relocating to urban areas. “People want to get more facilities hence they are moving to the cities,” he said.
He mentioned the government is designing a ‘master plan’ for villages to bring civic services to the villagers.
The minister urged the country’s businessmen to play a pivotal role in the welfare of the country.
"It is not bad if someone is involved in politics and business at the same time but we have to sort out the good and the bad…Everyone must work for the welfare of the country from their respective places,” said the minister.
IBFB President Humayun Rashid, City planner Prof Nazrul Islam and IBFB Vice President MS Siddique also spoke at the programme.
